Everyone took a dump here already. Now I think everybody is taking in a dump in the Robin Hood review thread.

Re: Human Centipede (What?)

My girlfriend and I watched the movie last night.

I've never been so disappointed by a movie in my entire life. What a great premise with terrible execution. I kept on almost falling asleep during the first forty minutes because I was absolutely bored as not a single, fucking thing happened.

How does it take a writer or director forty fuckin' minutes to establish:
- Sick doctor loves attaching species ass-to-mouth.
- Two American girls are vacationing in Europe.
- They end up at the sick doctor's house and are going to go ass-to-mouth.

There's no mood or sense of dread being established during that time. It's all just Dieter Laser chewing scenery and two unknown actresses who can't act their way out of a paper bag.

The film is not "it's so bad, it's good;" it's "this film is just a piece of shit."

When the film finally starts delivering the goods, my mind has made such a better film that the actual images on screen are just lackluster compared to what I've imagined. The "money shots" are weaker than expected and nothing made me feel queasy or uneasy.

The only part of the film I enjoyed is the ending...
Spoiler:
... in that the main actress is the only one left alive with her ass sewed together to the dead suicidal Japanese guy's ass and her ass sewed to her best friend's mouth who is now dead from blood poisoning. That's creepy and effective and the only "redeeming" piece this film has to offer.

If you want me to sit through the Final Sequence, Tom Six better play it all for camp or just amp the blood, gore and disturbing images because I don't think I could sit through a horror film as boring as this one again.

So the only real shit is the movie itself.

I thought the opposite. I agree that it's not a great film but I thought the tension was built pretty fast. You don't spend much time with the girls (going to parties, going to bed with some guys, etc) because the shit hits the fan about ten minutes in. Usually, horrors give you about 30 minutes of bore before the first horrific thing happens. This film is not the case as the dread starts happening right as they enter his house.

And I really liked that there wasn't much blood and gore in the film.

Again, would I call it a great, fantastic film? No. But it was watchable and the lead actor was very good.

I'd like to use The House of the Devil as a more recent example of how to create terror and dread with nothing (relatively) happening during its first two acts before the shit hits the fan. For a second more recent example, I'd also throw Paranormal Activity into the mix.

Both films even include contain better acting.

I think a film that's main objective is to shock its audience, I felt it lacking that Six couldn't deliver the goods in terms of a visceral level. I grew up watching horror films as a child, so my imagination is pretty fucked up at this point in time; but if one is making a film consisting of sewing people's mouths to others' asses, show the audience something. Trying to make it psychological and then completely failing because you're an incompetent writer and director is something different. I think if Six had the balls (and competency) to push this film to the absolute limit, this is a film that would gain notoriety on the midnight circuit. Instead, it's a film with an amazing premise that just fails to deliver.

I know I'm not the only one who feels this way as a slew of my friends have caught the film and just walked away majorly disappointed.

Way to go Tom Six at being a fuck-up.

Re: Human Centipede (What?)

I actually watched this last night.

The 1st 30-40 minutes were really slow.

It picked up afterwards, but overall it's a really gross and shitty movie. I wanted to take a shower after watching it.

I did find a few bright spots:
The 2 lead actresses were really good and believable.
The actor who played the Mad Doctor was quite mennacing and scary in many scenes. I found the scene where he explained the "surgery" to the Japanese guy and the 2 girls and got off on it to be quite disturbing. I have a feeling he will be type casted as a crazy European for future horror flicks.

As for all the shit jokes and references in this thread. There was really only one scene that had anything to do with it, but even then it wasn't that graphic.

I think Tom Six is bound to become the next Uwe Boll. As of right now, I have zero interest in seeing a sequel to this.

I would give this a D+

Great date movie! lol

But I do agree with you that the film (can we call it a film?) could have been executed better. I really didn't find it scary or horrific...other than the thought of actually being part of the pede. And the ending was pretty good...other than the fact that the 2nd detective was an idiot.

Ebert's review

I think the only other film that he didn't give a rating to was Pink Flamingos.

Re: Human Centipede (What?)

Sequel talk. Spoiler'd as I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen it yet...

Spoiler:
From Dread Central:

This writer hosted The Human Centipede (First Sequence) panel at this past Saturday’s well-attended Creation’s Weekend of Horrors at the LAX Marriott, and over the course of our 30-minute chat, film stars Ashlynn Yennie and Akihiro Kitamura let it slip that the two would be returning to reprise their roles in Tom Six’s sequel, The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence), which is set to roll in London this coming June 20th. This is a surprising development certainly, given their fate in the first film.

During the panel, the ever-charming and humorous Yennie stated that all of the things film-goers didn’t see in the original (which won Best Film at last year’s Screamfest and which debuted theatrically in limited release on April 30) – in particular “the blood and shit” which would be inherent to the narrative of the first film’s proceedings – will be on hand for the sequel, which will up the ante from three to twelve(!) unfortunates who are sewn ass to mouth, only to share the same gastric system. No word yet on whether or not actress Ashley C. Williams will join the pair for the follow-up.

For those who could not give a shit (no pun intended), summarized with no spoilers:
- The sequel will in fact contain blood and shit.
- The sequel will have three-to-twelve going ass to mouth.
- The sequel will start shooting next month.

So it must have made money for him to shoot a sequel?

That summary was funny. Hard to believe the movie is that inane and nonsensical.

It's more a synopsis than a review.
