Back to the topic at hand...
I'm excited about Reznor's involvement, and even moreso knowing that he also thought this was a bizarre choice for a film, but was convinced why.

The new teaser is making this look very interesting, but the rumored runtime could hurt the potential box office.

Ok...this teaser..is MUCH BETTER than the other one...you get more of the "tone" I assume for what this film has.

I don't get it. It seems an odd choice, but Fincher is a capable guy. One of the few elite directors out there. I'll trust him with this one I guess, even though I have my reservations.

Ok, ok, ok. I've actually been looking forward to this and think the subject matter is a superb one for a film (so much so that I even wrote my own screenplay loosely based on it) but I actually don't think these teasers are very good.
The style of the teasers is good and intriguing, but they make the movie sound like it'll be a courtroom drama. I mean, really, is this going to be a 3 hour version of the final scene in Scent of a Woman? Rich white boys suing each other? Sounds lame.
I'm hoping this film dares to get into the utter weirdness that is Zuckerberg and the sexual undercurrents of the whole thing. Otherwise, I may get a chance to sell my script yet...

Re: David Fincher's "The Social Network"
That 190-minute runtime most definitely sounds like a typo. I imagine any studio executive looking to keep their job would not allow Fincher to release a 3 hour-plus movie about Facebook starring a bunch of people are unknown to general audiences. Fincher's final cut is probably like a lot of other director's - he has final cut up to a certain running time; after that, he has to take into account what executives and preview audiences are saying. You could probably count on one, maybe two hands, the amount of directors who can release a movie at any length they want without interference.

Previously I know Kurbrick for sure had that (unless I'm wrong). Maybe Spielberg and (currently cuz I think WB is just in love w/ him since BB onward and ESPECIALLY w/ TDK) Nolan? Lucas too probably. I'm not saying I don't think he couldn't but...I dunno if Fincher has that ability. If he does great, if he doesn't well..I'm not hurt. BUT I dunno about him.

Talking about that: What current directors have that kind of ability (or what I consider control/power) to do so?

Not sure if Fincher has the final cut privilege, I know he did have it at some juncture in his career. I do hope this is a 190 minute film. Fuck the average movie goer.
Yeah I know it's a business, but this isn't necessarily intended to be a blockbuster. I'm sure it will be an excellent film, make a decent amount domestically, do well internationally and sell enough DVD/BD's to keep everyone happy.
