Re: Tim Burton developing "Dark Shadows"

Way different than I thought. It looks like he's just playing Sweeney Todd as an absent minded vampire.

I see what you meant with the Mars Attacks vibe. It is also like Addams Family, which was already copying Burton. Doesn't look fresh though, Tim Burton has been stale and over-digitalized for years now

Was on the fence but that trailer makes me want to go.

Looks like Burton's found a new Lisa Marie.

I'm sold. I just hope the 1970's pop music soundtrack isn't in the actual film.
Yes, but "Psyclops" over at AINT IT COOL saw an early screening and said it's definitely a comedy. Unless he was lying and only saw the trailer and tried to piece together the rest.

I liked the trailer for the movie but then again I wasn't a fan of the original show.

The trailer is not what I was expecting at all.

Not sure if that is good or bad, but I will be seeing it no matter.

Looks like BEETLEJUICE tailored for Depp.

It looks like a parody of a Burton/Depp film. It's even called (*gasp) Dark Shadows!

That was really clever of them to go back in time to 1966 to plant that title knowing it woul one day be used for a Burton/Depp collaboration.

Yeah I knew someone would say that. Not the point though.

Really? Mars Attacks was a stupid, lazy, over the top, unfunny mess. I didn't laugh once. Everyone involved with that POS should be ashamed of themselves.

This looks like it actually could be funny, I just wish it was an original property, so we could get a chance at a more serious adaptation of Dark Shadows.

That may be the first movie review I've read here that I agree with.

Jesus Christ this looks absolutely fucking terrible! Some of the laziest and most unfunny jokes I've seen in a long time. If that's what they chose for the trailer, I shudder to think about the rest.

Disclaimer: I've never seen the show.

Re: Tim Burton developing "Dark Shadows"

Tim Burton is a complete hack anymore. He is a waste and I have absolutely no interest in anything of his for the past several years. It's like he's afraid to be serious or dark.

Dark Shadows? More like Light Hearted Shadows. In fact, even using the word Shadow is too dark for this movie!

I was really expecting something like old times with this film, dark with a bit of dry comedy and wit.

This looks SO terribly bad. I have no interest in seeing this abortion at all. Depp should quit working with this bum. Guilty by association.

Re: Tim Burton developing "Dark Shadows"

It is statistically impossible for this movie to be worse than Alice in Wonderland. That said, I am still unlikely to see it.

Re: Tim Burton developing "Dark Shadows"

I was excited for this before I saw the trailer. Aside from the first 40 seconds or so, this trailer was awful. I just remembered the miserable experience I had watching Alice in Wonderland a few years ago. So, yeah I'll pass on this.

Jonathan Frid would never wear lipstick.

Re: Tim Burton developing "Dark Shadows"

Honestly, being familiar with the source material I'm kind of surprised. I don't think it deserves self-parody. I liked the show and would've appreciated an actual dark film. The trailer plays off as a "recut trailer" someone made and put up on YouTube.

I'm just surprised during this whole time the movie was being filmed and in development that nothing leaked out about it being a comedy. I wasn't expecting much from yet another Depp-Burton outing, but I'm on the fence for this. It could be worth a watch eventually. I don't see it blowing up the box office, though.

Re: Tim Burton developing "Dark Shadows"

I must admit the latest trailer made me laugh when Depp sees Alice Cooper.
Spoiler:
"Ugliest woman ever."
But I'd be more willing to give this movie a chance if it wasn't pretending to be Dark Shadows. This is like the anti-21 Jump Street for me.

Of course with that said, the last Tim Burton film I liked was Big Fish and that was 9 years ago.

I thought the trailer looked more Austin Powers as a vampire than say Beetlejuice.
