Looks like another Mars Attacks. It will appeal to the people who have the sense of humor, and turn off everyone else.

The opening had me thinking this would be another Sleepy Hollow for Burton.
I see I was wrong. Looks amusing, maybe, but likely a wasted opportunity.

I love it too. I just think it seems to be taking the approach to Dark Shadows that Mars Attacks did to sci-fi movies, tongue-in-cheek.

Re: Tim Burton developing "Dark Shadows"
I think it looks funny. Unlike a lot of genre directors Burton genuinely has a great comedic sensibility. Some of his movies are more comedic than others obviously but even in the "serious" ones the jokes are generally well-done as opposed to the groan-inducing attempts at humor in most non-comedies. I'm sure someone is gonna come in and try to attribute that to the writers but Burton has routinely shown an above-average grasp of comedy in his execution as a director.
But yeah, it's nice to see my prediction from earlier come true: people bitch when they assume this is going to be the same thing as another Burton/Depp collaboration (in this case "Sleepy Hollow" seems to be what most people had in mind) and now people are bitching because it's not what they expected.

Fuck you, Tim Burton. Dark Shadows was a great show, with a rich cast of characters to pull from. This, this is just stupid. I wouldn't even necessarily have minded if they had called it "Vampire Blues" or something and not associated it with Dark Shadows.

If he wanted to make a comedy about a vampire, he should have made a totally original production.

That trailer was so vastly different from what I expected I think I'm in shock. Part of me wants to hate on it but the other part of me hates when the tone of a Burton film doesn't match the crazy style of a Burton film. I must admit I'm curious but I hold little hold that it'll be funny....since much of the trailer wasn't.

What the hell did I just watch??
I was young when Dark Shadows came out, so I didn't watch soap operas but I knew of the show. Other than the name and look of Barnabus this doesn't seem to bear any resemblance to the original show.

I've never seen the TV show, but I think the trailer looks pretty funny. I doubt I'll see it in theaters, but it doesn't look bad (going in with no context).

I thought the same thing watching the opening of the trailer. Tim, why WHY did you have to turn "Dark Shadows" into a slapstick comedy!? Couldn't you have just done a drama for fuck sake?

Or at least make it an original concept. When you remake something but then change it so drastically, you alienate fans of the original. I know the studio wants to cash in on the name familiarity, but I think a vampire comedy starring Depp would sell just fine on its own.

The original Dark Shadows was totally over-the-top ridiculous melodrama mixed with supernatural ho-hummery. I loved it as a kid, but I gotta admit, this trailer looks quite awesome.

It looks like fun cheese, kind of reminded me of Good Omens for some reason.

Having watched it a few times, I am warming to the idea of it as a comedy. My mom saw the trailer and used to skip class in college to watch the soap opera. She said the soap was also funny, but more in an over the top sense. I remember when NBC aired a re-boot of the show in the early 90s and it was unintentionally humorous for the most part.

Chris Alexander summed it up best in a recent Fango article:
"All of the participants are adamant this is not a comedy. Warner Bros. wants to market it as such because, well, they don’t know how else to market a blood dripping, hyper gothic and absurdist soap opera fever dream except play up the camp."
I'm sold. I just hope the 1970's pop music soundtrack isn't in the actual film.

Exactly.Be careful, someone here is going to think that LAFB was hee-larious.
I wish Depp and Burton would go away.
