Tim Burton developing "Dark Shadows"

Tim Burton has become Barbra Streisand. Incredible success, but artistic potential ruined. Occasionally may churn out something with noticing. Amazing early career. Much better *before* he got total creative control.

I think he's more like Magic Johnson mixed with Stephen Hawking with a little bit of Screech thrown in for good measure.

The makeup has me worried - but that's mainly because that type of pasty makeup on Depp is so ridiculously overused - but I'm sure when the movie gets around to post, it'll look more "natural."

I also don't have a problem with Johnny Depp, he's a fine actor but I'm tired of the constant collaborations with Burton. I'd like to see him work with someone else for a change. What's the over/under on the number of films Burton/Depp will make before one of them dies, 20? 30?

ditto. Fine actor but I think a judgement of quality doesn't matter when he works for Burton. Seems like he really likes the guy. That's fine...but not for us. I don't know wtf this film is about but...uhm...is he supposed to look..that weird? The character I mean.

I like how everyone bitches and moans about how Tim Burton and Johnny Depp keep working together with the implication that they're making the same collaboration over and over then every time you actually see the Depp character and it's some unexpected interpretation and people bitch about that too.
I personally thought Depp's Barnabas would be along the lines of Depp's Ichabod Crane but that's because I'm not very imaginative. When I heard "Depp as Mad Hatter" I thought of the top hat and figured we'd get something along the lines of his Wonka and that was pretty far off too.

I think I remember reading somewhere that since the character is a vampire that he needs to wear SPF 100000000000 sunscreen when outside, thus the look.

Judging by the look of the makeup, I'm sure it's more than just sunscreen. It's pretty much like stage makeup; it looks a lot different under certain lighting, and I'm sure post-production will make that look a lot less goofy.

Sweeney Todd, The Mad Hatter, Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka....there's plenty of similarities between those characters.

Re: Tim Burton developing "Dark Shadows"
This is exactly what we don't need : another Tim Burton movie. He ruined Planet Of The Apes, destroyed Alice In Wonderland, and Sweeny Todd was completely ridiculously horrendous. Nothing good since Sleepy Hollow. Somewhere along the line, Burton stopped making "Tim Burton movies" and started making bad high school plays. Beetlejuice was incredible. Edward Scissorhands is a classic. Batman/Batman Returns is vintage Burton. Sleepy Hollow was creepy, campy, and fun. 12 years is a long time to go without making a decent movie. I have never seen anyone in Hollywood go so long without making something even a tiny bit interesting. Well, except George Lucas for the last 25 years or so.

I'm in the minority that didn't like Sleepy Hollow. I liked the concept but not the execution. I did enjoy Sweeny Todd, however, despite the abrupt ending.
