Not at all - I just think it's time for the detractors to have our say also - we can all get along! Have I said what a horrible movie this is yet? God help me, I even like Bay's Pearl Harbor better than this.

And since when is 57% an overwhelming majority?

Aw HELL NO!!

Isn't the number #1 rule of the Internet that you can't use professional reviewers to back up your opinion?

this movie delivered for the diehard fans that grew up with the cartoons and toys. it was a half hour cartoon with cheesy dialogue with good one liners. spielberg and bay even said this movie was made for the 80's generation. they did good by me. and according to various forums, the majority also.

:scratch2: Really? I'm a fan from the 80s and only feel like I was given a nibbles that had me believe they had 80s fans in mind. We must have been looking at different source material!

Also, as much as I enjoyed the movie I also cited several parts I had problems with. It's just that some people have chosen to use those same scenes as justification for ragging on the film completely and ignoring any good scenes that helped build an enteraining and well acted film.

< Saw it for the 3rd time today. :D

< Although he wishes others liked it as much as him, ultimately he doesn't really give a shit because people can like or not like what they want.

Dude, don't even bother. Apparently, and I don't know why, there's an effort to "turn the tide" in this thread because some of us liked this movies.

Where did I shit on anyone who likes the movie? I'm just shitting on the movie itself, and last I checked, this is the review thread, not the "I loved it" thread.

But you guys are getting all worked up like, "Oh my god! We. must. change. their. minds!".

Whatever dude, you're right....it's a "reviews thread" and not a "love fest" so keep shitting. :p

I gotta be me! :)

Now, when Shia told Fox that she's "more than meets the eye", did he mean that she has more depth than just another beautiful girl or that he thinks she's a Transformer?

I vote for the former since he didn't know Transformers existed at the time. ;)

Btw, how awsome would it be in the sequel if they changed his plate to read: LDSMN217.

I grew up in the 80s and was a big fan of the toys are cartoon.

I felt this movie had very little in common with the source material. A few character names, a couple of lines and that's it.

It really had nothing to do with the source material (which, for the record, goes beyond the 80s cartoon.) It was a big summer blockbuster with great robot fights and explosions, terrible, TERRIBLE dialogue, blantant product placement and extremely poor attempts at humor.

Folks! Two free downloads of TF music by Stan Bush!!!

Got You Got The Touch playing now... great song! Makes me wanna watch the original movie.

Someone made a short youtube video with the second song, Till All Are One. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3WJXVe9Qpg) Pretty good. Haven't heard the whole song yet,but from what I've heard, I wish it was used in the movie, if at least in the credits.

I know. What's next, an entire children's cartoon series based around toys?

Thats exactly what the cartoon was as well.

Next thing you know they will make an animated movie with the sole purpose of killing off majority of said toys to sell a brand new line of toys ....

db27 07-10-07 09:47 PM

loved it, thought it was a lot of fun, and it would be easy to be critical about some stuff like advertising, incorrect source use, and changes but the bottom line is it made me feel like a kid again. Look forward to seeing it again.

Hand to god, I had no problems with every car being a GMC (though they made an effort to specifically show the name of the car) or the giant BK logo behind Mikelas head. That could easily happen on a typical downtown street. But when the characters have a discussion about where Nokia comes from, no less than three characters mention eBay and the only two things affected by the All-Spark are a Mountain Dew machine and a guy carrying an Xbox 360 down a busy city street in his hands instead of a bag, we've gone way beyond normal.

And yes, the show was about the toys and hey, Hasbro has made the toys for the movie! The cartoon was NOT filled with additional products that had nothing to do with the story. And I did not know what brand of car each character was supposed to be because they certainly never said it on the show. It was by far the worst product placement I've ever seen in a movie.

Someone mentioned Mission Impossible III and the fact that everything was Sony. I only noticed one Sony computer in that movie, so it was subtle enough that it didn't even register. That's good placement.

It's a shame that they couldn't improve on cut-rate Japanimation from 20 years ago, isn't it?

That's not normal? What's on the streets where you live? Vending machines selling generic Cola? You got people standing in line to buy Okama GameSpheres?

Does your phone number (and every other number, regardless of where they live) start with 555?

I have no problem with any of the "product placement." If anything, making up generic names for things would be more unrealistic.

P.S. I don't think the Mustang is made by GMC. ;) And does GMC make Prime's truck???

I don't think you mentioned the most insidious product placement. I fell hook, line and sinker for it.... I bought a box of Ding Dongs.

That pretty much tells us what we need to know.

cactusoly 07-10-07 09:54 PM

I had no interest in seeing this, but was talked into it. For the 1st half hour or so I was like 'this isn't so bad, I guess they are going to pull it off.' Then it went down hill fast. The best I can say was that it wasn't terrible.

The original cartoon is definitely NOT "Japanimation." Thank goodness.

When I bought my Xbox 360, I carried it out of the store in a sack. Not in both hands at chest level with the logo turned toward a camera.

That's what I meant. I was explaining this to my wife, and she summed it up best - "So they didn't just, you know, change into a toaster." Exactly, it HAD to be a recognizable product.
