As far as Star Wars posters go, that has got to be one of the worst.

Any number of design agencies would jump at the chance to work on Star Wars... not to mention the countless artists already at ILM. Why the latest crop of Star Wars products have such awful artwork is a real mystery... we were laughing/crying at the Blu-Ray packaging at work...it's so sad. Doesn't the business side of Lucas know that presentation is key?

Yes and no. He'll do the other five if this one sells enough tickets.

Not sure if I mentioned it here or another forum, but I had said if there were also 2D releases I'd probably go. I saw TPM a dozen times in the theater way back when, and I stopped hating it just because the internet told me to years ago.

But that poster is horrific. Yoda looks like he's trying not to laugh at a "kick me" sign on Maul's back.

I would never see any of the SW movies in 3-D, but it wouldn't suprise me if this did great at the box office next year. SW fans have shown that they will flock to whatever Lucas puts out, so I am finished predicting the demise of SW related stuff like this.

The massive box office success of the 3D release of The Lion King is also a sign that this 3D conversion could do well.

Did you not see the box office returns for the Clone Wars movie?

Good point as I forget about that. That is probably the only SW-related thing that has tanked in the since the SE in 1997.

6 years ago I went during my lunch to a screening of Finding Nemo--which I was going to see that evening anyway--just to see the Episode 2 teaser. I think after the botched job with the Blu-Rays, I'll wait 'til they release Empire.

That surprises me. I'm pretty sure the voice work for AOTC was left over garbage from some Phantom Menace sound bites because "Anakin" repeating twice sounds exactly the same and the "Noooooo!" sounds nothing like Neeson. Plus, he was supposed to show up in a scene with Yoda at the end of ROTS.

That was my impression as well. And I recall the intended Yoda scene that never happened.

That is the ugliest fucking poster. Why does all the key art for star wars suck? The original one sheets for SW and Empire are great, everything from the ROTJ one sheet up to today is awful. The SE one sheets hurt my eyes.

Anakin is also missing from the poster for some odd reason, as are Padme and Jar Jar (ok, probably a good call on the latter).

EDIT: OK, I guess Anakin is techincally in the podracer, but as main character of the saga, you'd think he'd be featured a little more prominently.

I like how it says "see it on the big screen," as if they're marketing it to people that didn't do that. I guess there's a cult of little kids that grew up with it on video and actually like it enough to want to see it in a theater.

Re: Star Wars: The Phantom Menace...in 3-D for 2012

I was channel surfing the other night and some dumb award show was on SpikeTV and was about the scifi, horror, action genres.

They gave The Best Villain Award (I assume it was a lifetime achievement) to Darth Vader. So Darth Vader comes out to accept the award and they have some guy doing his voice (which sounded nothing like James Earl Jones). The one funny thing he said, "Who knows what George Lucas will do to the next DVD set, probably change all the Ewoks to CGI!"

Then George Lucas comes out and hands him the award, and then Vader leaves. Lucas then says, "Come see Darth Vader in 3-D next year!" And then he leaves.

I thought that Episode I was the first movie released in the theaters in 3-D?

Darth Vader isn't even in that movie????

That'd be the Scream awards. As for Episode I, Lucas added a new scene where young Anakin has a vision of himself as Jedi Warrior and sees himself as Darth Vader.

It's done kinda like the

Seriously? This is a stupid fucking post. This movie came out ten years ago... I have two kids since then that would LOVE to see this and I'd love to take them.

The verocity with which people (read SW geeks) think they're opinion is the most valid is ridiculous. If you don't want to see the movie, don't go see it but quit with the posts like the one above.

The actual award begins at around 2:45:

And yeah, Darth Vader won't be in 3D in February... he's not in The Phantom Menace, George.

Perhaps there will be a post-credits promo reel for the other five movies in 3D. In which case, he will be in 3D in February.

This is George Lucas. If there is a way to CGI Darth Vader into Episode I it will be done. Hell, even if it doesn't make sense plot wise he will probably do it.

Re: Star Wars: The Phantom Menace...in 3-D for 2012

Maybe he's just talking about the Rogue Squadron trilogy compilation, remastered for PS3, 360, Wii U, and PC, with 3D support.

I wish, anyway.
