It looks freakin' fantastic and it's a cheap buy and I'm in the mood for a SCARY gorefest.
It isn't very scary but it's hilarious as hell and extremely gory, one of the goriest movies EVER. Awesome movie, just make sure you don't see it immediately after eating.

The Triplets of Belleville - biggest piece of stinky crap ever made
Blade Runner - gets worse each time I happen to see it
Rushmore - what the hell was that move?

Another vote for Escape from New York.

The new two disc set packaging makes it look like an explosive action thriller that never lets up. In reality, its one of the most uneventful action movies I have ever seen. It would've been cool if they had actually shown Air Force One crash into the building instead of using a cheesy, antiquated computer rendering. I wish someone would remake it and give it the scale the plot demands.

With nods to Ferris Bueller and Fight Club and Lost in Translation, I think some of us don't know what 'cult' film is. I mean LiT isn't even a year old, how can it possibly have a cult following?

I totally agree with Rushmore.

Even if it's not freaky thorughout - how scary is it?
As others have said, no it's not scary, nor is it meant to be. But DO NOT let that keep you from seeing it. It's a damn good movie, and the goriest I've ever seen. (I challenge anyone to name a movie with more gore, because I'd love to see it).

Premutos
But it's not on par with Dead Alive in other areas.

To answer the question, and be completely original -Donnie Darko. I just didn't get what the appeal could be, and I generally like "odd" or weird movies.

Gotcha - I saw the face pull you posted and couldn't get enough of it - the trailer I saw a little while back looked friggin carzy as hell to so I'll give it a shot.

Thanks to you to Rivero - but yeah, my Rushmore comment was true

No, it is a turd of a movie, made worse by the ridiculous following it has.

A "cult" film can be anything with a following... a "cult classic" on the otherhand, like the original poster asked, would be different.

Every time I tell my friend he needs to see Pulp Fiction he tells me "Well, you need to see Rocky Horror Picture Show." This thread just makes me not want to see it even more. I hate cheesy stupid movies that don't make any sense so I don't plan on seeing it any time soon, or ever if I can help it.

What kind of retarded logic is that? I want to see a movie that might suck, so movies that I say suck are actually classics?

Rocky Horror = Very Gay.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but if that's not your cup of tea, I don't think Rocky Horror is the great cinematic ambassador to homosexual culture. But I do think that's what owes a lot of it's cult appeal to, it must have been something quite different for the time.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, if you do check it out, see it at one of the famed midnight showing with audience participation. Definately tedious as a rental, but a bit more lively in person.

I also think Rushmore sucks nuts. Repo Man, on the other hand, rules. Very quotable.

All of the Alejandro Jodorowsky films. Not terrible, but I can't see people enjoying these for much more than camp value.

BWAHHH!!!
Listen kid, the day you stop worshipping that turd-burgler Christopher Lambert is the day I might take that turd of a comment seriously.

Such unwarratented agression torwards "Donnie Darko" leads me to believe you may secretly watch your overplayed "Troop Beverly Hills" video in your footed Tonka pajamas.
But then again, I enjoy a good round of masturbation as I watch my beloved "Xanadu", so who am I to judge?

Hey, who likes Hot Pockets?

Well then, first you'll have to kill me, xmiyux. 'Cause I ain't parting with my Tonka footies any faster than RyoHazuki plans on parting with his "Highlander" collection, thank you!

Now "Troop Beverly Hills"? No further comment on that from moi.
Any flick that featured the debut of Tori Spelling should be rightfully served as death row punishment. Unless it's that TV movie where she's the bitchy cheerleader and Kelly Martin's the nerdy weirdo who stabs her to death, because that was awesome.
But God forbid you get me on a tangent about the elusive sex appeal of Shelly Long in the midst of her desperate decent into motion picture mediocrity. Bless her heart.

Speaking of motion picture mediocrity, when's "Ishtar" finally getting a DVD release? I wanna see Warren and Dustin boogie down in the dunes again, damnit.
