It was a decent movie, but it definitely gets more praise than it deserves.and I will add:

I like Donnie Darko even more now after seeing those who don't like it.

All this talk of Donnie Darko is making me curious - i saw the first 15 minutes one day and it seemed like a very slow odd movie and i haven't seen anymore since. Maybe i need to check it out. Does it get creepy or surreal or what later on?

i agree with SPINAL TAP. way overrated. i own it but didnt finish it. im sure ill pick it up again. Just didnt make me laugh. Best in show was 10 times better IMO.
Also, DEad alive is one of my favorite films ever. I actually think dead alive is a bit UNDERRATED since evil dead 2 steals all its thunder

Little off topic but since it's been mentioned a bunch of times - is Dead Alive scary at all?
It looks freakin' fantastic and it's a cheap buy and I'm in the mood for a SCARY gorefest.
Even if it's not freaky thorughout - how scary is it?

its not scary at all. its very gory, but there is nothing remotely scary about it. its 100 percent violent comedy. unless you are a 5 year old, nothing will scare you.

Re: "Donnie Darko". O.K., I can see where some might feel it's overrated. But no way is it a "turd of a movie". It wasn't even the worst film released that week. Until this thread, I've never seen anyone say anything bad about it.

Here's another vote for Rocky Horror. It's just fookin stupid.
As far as evil dead goes, I LOVE Army of Darkness (the 3rd movie). However, I think the first 2 are just aweful. A friend of mine loves em all and worships the ground Rami and Bruce Campbell walk on, but I just can't get into them. I hated Dead Alive too.

I never have liked Army of Darkness as much as ED 1 & 2, but do not consider it overrated.
My picks for overrated:
Easy Rider - maybe it means more to those that grew up during this generation. I don't deny the effect it had on people when it first came out, but it didn't appeal to me. I always thought Electra Glide in Blue was a better movie.
Another vote for Rocky Horror - blecch
Not really movies but I never liked Xena or Hercules, a bit too campy for me.
Looking at some of the other lists in this thread, many of you wouldn't like my library of flicks

I'll agree with Escape from NY. It was a fun entertaining movie, but it wasn't as cool as I was hoping, and was pretty damn chessy. That probably comes from the fact that I saw Escape from LA first. So it was also a case of been there, done that. I perfer LA over NY, it just seemed like a better made film. I imagine if I saw NY first though, I'd have the opposite opinion.
A side note about my other side note. It's not that I lose respect for a poster (poor choice of words), it's just I value their opinion less. I still like them as people, I just can't trust a reccomendation of theirs as much anymore. But that's just how opinions go, no one is going to agree on anything %100, let alone something as personal as films, and the even more personal Cult flicks.

This whole discussion is rather silly. Cult Classics, by definition, appeal to only a select group (you know, the "cult" part). Which naturally means that the majority will not be big fans. If you consider one to be "overrated", I guess that means you just don't happen to be in that particular cult.
