One I can cross of my list before it's released is They Call Her Death. Saw it last night on Shudder and.....meh. If that, even. Shooting it on film was nice, but despite the better look of film vs. digital, it still ended up looking like some cheapie from a studio like Full Moon or something. No reason to add this one to my collection at all.

I find a lot of Shudder movies are worth watching . . . once . . . on Shudder (or in my case when the local library gets the DVDs (usually RLJE discs) of some of the reasonably better(-ish) ones. I can’t think of too many I’ve ever felt compelled to own on VS releases.
The Vinegar Syndrome store here promoted an upcoming rep cinema screening on their Instagram yesterday, for a movie called THEY CALL HER DEATH (2024, although the copyright on the trailer says 2023). The post said “Vinegar Syndrome Pictures presents a Sunrunner Films Production . . .” which suggests this obscurity might be coming on some pricey Blu-ray 4K set down the road.
I’m certainly not feeling it based on the trailer. Looks like any of those cheapo DTV westerns or horror-westerns that often turn up on DVD at Walmart with no-name casts, only with ‘grindhouse’ mannerisms employed by a director who’s probably watched too many boutique Blu-rays of vintage B-movies to do something that isn’t a pastiche. But that’s just me and it might prove me wrong. I’d watch it, but a long ways down the road. His earlier released picture EXPOSURE wasn’t particularly well-reviewed.

Since the theme of this Summer's Subscriber week is Alien related I'm guessing the VSU will be Fire in the Sky.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
The first of July's titles have been revealed:
Yongary, Monster from the Deep (UHD)
The Card Player (UHD)
The Rage: Carrie 2 (UHD)
...and new slipcovers for Nightbeast and Xtro 3.
I'm a sucker for Argento, even though The Card Player ranks awfully low, and I'm not a huge fan of Yongary but am intrigued by the partial Korean cut. But geez, $45 a pop is friggin' brutal. Although I guess I don't have to get the fancy limited editions.

If you’re still catching your breath from the first half of 2025, we can’t wait to share everything else this year has in store, starting with July’s triple dose: Dario Argento’s final theatrically released giallo, THE CARD PLAYER, at last comes to 4K UHD in its ultimate and extras packed home video edition, featuring a brand new, VS created restoration. Then, from cult favorite Katt Shea comes THE RAGE: CARRIE 2; a wild sequel to the 70s classic which features one of the most blood-soaked finales to come out of 90s Hollywood, and has been exclusively restored by VS from its original negative for its stunning 4K UHD debut. And finally, continuing our tradition of giant monsters in 4K, we’re delighted to bring the beloved South Korean Kaiju, director Kim-Ki Duk’s YONGARY, to UHD, exquisitely restored (including a reconstruction of its American theatrical opening credits), packed with informative extras, and featuring the surviving fragments of its original Korean language version!
In August, look forward to the Troma classic SGT. KABUKIMAN N.Y.P.D. on 4K UHD, newly restored from its original negative and presented in both its R and PG-13 versions. Plus, a 4K UHD double feature of two films by acclaimed indie-cult director Larry Fessenden, along with the authorized disc debut of a late 80s supernatural horror with a very memorable creature.
September will offer a non (?) giallo 70s Italian horror box set, another double feature of Larry Fessenden horror films on 4K UHD, plus the 4K UHD debut of a beloved early 90s body horror gem.
Then, in October, we’re going closer to the edge with another 4K UHD debut of an Argento giallo, the 4K UHD debut (and exclusive new restoration looking miles better than any home video release in this film’s history) of a 70s horror classic, a 4K UHD debut of another landmark film from Troma, and finally our very first Hammer horror masterpiece, with THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH on 4K UHD, presented with both its legendary nude sequences and extra violent original ending fully intact!
This November, we’re releasing another ferocious foursome of BIG releases, including a jaw-dropping Horror collection, an unforgettably bizarre Euro-horror masterpiece on 4K UHD, and two truly wild 4K UHD surprise titles.

I have the Scorpion release of the Card Player, and I don't think I need to drop $45 on a 4K of it.
But the Man Who Could Cheat Death is one that I will preorder whenever that becomes available.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
^ I kinda dumped on this one in this thread back in March, based only on the trailer. I know that’s always risky because it’s only a couple of minutes worth of footage, but even based on that it looked pretty much like you described the final product.

As for the current slate and sale, got nothing today from the bargain bin. That might change soon if other titles get added. Plus, there's the good chance that my recent bout of unemployment is coming to an end, so maybe I can be careless with money again. I will probably get Carrie 2 at some point (as I posted in the Movie Forum a while back, that's a movie that has no business being as good as it is, an unasked-for sequel to a movie that absolutely did not need a sequel in the first place), but not this week...
Oh, and as for Shudder Originals, ones I own or would own include Eight Eyes, Oddity, The Coffee Table, and Last Straw.

MAC AND ME is in their wheelhouse for sure, but 10,000 copies seems overly optimistic (?)
. I didn’t realize the Shout Blu was OOP but looking it up I see it’s never gone up in price. Briefly owned and sold it ages ago. I guess VS’s do-over commentary and interview with the director (rather than porting over Shout’s versions) makes them both viable options, for now. I’m no fan of the movie (although the director’s done far worse, which would seem improbable), but wouldn’t mind seeing their additional supplements if it’s discounted some day.

The should have also included a video of every time Paul Rudd played the clip from Mac & Me for Conan O’Brien. Probably would be tough/impossible to license something like that, though.

We’re No Angles is the new Cinématographe release. Kind of feels like that would have made more sense as the new VSU instead of Mac & Me, but it’s not 4K. Oh well…

Beastmaster and Six String Samurai are going out of print and are 70% off. Six String Samurai is still available in LE so if you are VSU completist and don't have it you better buy it now.

^ That movie is pretty bad, but reasonably fun as part of the minor ‘glamour women from outer space genre’ from the era (which did produce better examples). I have Olive’s previous Blu-ray edition which was barebones, although the supplements on VS’s version feels like more gig work for the usual experts. I guess it’s better than nothing since pretty much everyone originally associated with the film is gone now and not much vintage material exists. Might keep an eye peeled for it in a future sale. It’s a shame they couldn’t have licensed the Mystery Science Theater episode to make the release a little more complete.

Decided to pre-order as I did the mid-Subscriber and got like 1800 points so used part to get $10 off, paid only 9.99 for it.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Been trying to catch up with my massive unwatched VS pile, and here's a handful of quick reviews in case they show up on the sale page this weekend and anyone is on the fence about them.
Riddle of Fire. Man, I don't know what to make of this one. Is it a fantasy film? Parody of a fantasy film? A real thriller where the child protagonists think they're in a fantasy film? I don't know, and that's ok. The ambiguity makes me want to revisit it. An ambitious effort for sure.
Madman. I remember seeing this one before and not liking it, but it came up at one of those sales really really cheap and I bit on it. Big mistake. Dull slasher, bad makeup effects on the killer. Did throw a little wrinkle into the "final girl" trope, that's about it.
Wolfpack. Really good allegory, but it seemed incomplete. It looks like it had about 15 more minutes to go, to really implement the ideas it was bringing up, then ended rather abruptly. Still worth a watch though, I would recommend.
Bio-Zombie. Really obnoxious people in a zombie attack that takes WAY to long to get started. Violates my "sleaze not cheese" rule. It's cheese. Smelly cheese. A couple of Hong Kong cuties doesn't make up for it. Avoid.
Scared To Death. A Vinegar Syndrome highlight. Great little creature feature I was glad to watch, and I don't like monster-themed horrors much. The creature design is poor, they should have shown it less, but other than that a fine little horror film. Highly recommended.

The Dirty Work 4k boxed set is now at 121 on the VS Website. It'll probably sell out this weekend. I'm sure they'll probably do a variant slipcover for it in the future.
