Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
#4. Am I able to order stack my 31 Days of Syntober orders?
Yes, but there will be a few different options available in regards to shipping your Syntober orders. They are as follows:
a.) If you pay for shipping on a Syntober order, your order will be shipped either same day or the following day.
b.) If you place any regular October preorders, you will be eligible for order stacking and able to add any Syntobner orders to that preorder. Note: This means any Syntober titles added to a preorder, either through order stacking or actually being part of a preorder, will not ship out until pre-orders begin to ship.
c.) There will be an additional free shipping option at checkout named "Hold until Halloween" which will give you the option to hold all Syntober orders until the end of the month. You'll never have to pay for shipping for any of your 31 Days of Syntober products that you order, and they will all ship out together on November 1st. Important Note: Only use this shipping option for orders containing products featured during the 31 Days of Syntober.
Subscribers: We will ship your October package + add on orders as usual around the 15th. Any orders placed after your package ships will be combined and shipped out once the promotion ends.

Thanks Adam, it looks like they indeed changed their policy from last year, because I know for sure that that "Hold until Halloween" option wasn't available then.
I bought a title last year on sale, and while the price was good enough, they'd already shipped it by the time I considered placing another order. They probably got more than a few complaints on it, and added the new "hold" option, so good on them for identifying a problem and fixing it.

A while back I came across my Kino Blu-ray of MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH (itself replacing the earlier Legend films double feature Blu with THE SKULL) and thought it would make a decent title for Hammer’s deluxe line of packed box sets, perhaps as one of the smaller boxes, especially if the cut footage was ever found, which apparently it now has been. Very tempted to wait and see if Hammer does anything with that one down the road.
What are the chances of hearing something from them? I may email Hammer directly and ask because I am sure they would rather you buy their release.

Pulled the trigger on Seventh Curse/Witch From Nepal today. Damn, even at 50% off it's still pricey.

Someone posted this on that other forum and looks like Hammer will be doing their own big box set.
Hammer: What Lies Ahead… And the Film that could Cheat Death! – Hammer Films
I watched the movie last night. It was just okay. A bit of a snoozer to me.
Hammer: What Lies Ahead… And the Film that could Cheat Death! – Hammer Films
SR: Well, I can certainly tell you about the one that is currently under restoration at Silver Salt – thanks to our partners at Hollywood Classics and Paramount we’re currently restoring The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959) in 4K for UHD/Blu-ray release in the UK.
HN: What?! When will that be out?
SR: We don’t have a firm date yet, but we are working towards early 2026.

I just noticed that the descriptor on todays "Syntober" sale was Devil Fetus/Her Vengeance, but the actual title on sale was Seventh Curse/Witch From Nepal. No biggie, as I want both. But because of the mixup, Devil Fetus is also on sale until noon tomorrow, so grab a copy if it's on your list. I did.

^ Thanks for the heads up. Sometimes after a few deals in a row don’t interest me, I start forgetting to check. Got both of these as they’ve been sitting in my cart for a while now with some other stuff. Used some of my 8000+ accumulated points to knock off another ten bucks, which was then offset a bit by the bonus points.

Just watched Corpse Mania and really, REALLY enjoyed it. The blurbs compare it to a Giallo film, and that's very apt. It's totally a mystery film, trying to find the insane killer before he kills again. The cinematography is absolutely stunning. Special effects are a bit weak, but overall a fantastic movie I can see myself revisiting several times. No spoilers, but it even keeps in the Giallo tradition of the late film red herring fake-out, along with a crazy ending that you won't see coming. Highly highly recommended. Grab it if it goes on sale this month.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Vinegar Syndrome's Slashed & Trashed Black Friday 2025 is now just over one month away, and you know what that means: our Black Friday Flash Pre-Order is right around the corner, starting on Saturday, November 1st at exactly 12:01 AM ET and running through 11:59 PM ET on Tuesday, November 4th.
During the Flash Pre-Order event, all 2025 Black Friday releases will be available for pre-order at specially discounted prices compared to their Black Friday Sale prices!
Please visit the 2025 Black Friday Flash Pre-Order FAQ for more details.
Black Friday Flash Pre-Order FAQ
Our Black Friday 2025 lineup is destined to go down in history as another unparalleled selection of cult hits, deep cuts, and wild surprises, with a whopping 10 new releases from the VS site, plus three more from Mélusine—including the debut of the Mitchell Brothers Film Group line.
At the start of the Flash Pre-Order, we’ll be revealing six of our November releases, including our latest and grossest VS Ultra; an intense supernatural horror gem making its UHD debut and a three-film set of shocking Hong Kong horror, both from VS proper; a tense, true crime thriller on UHD from Cinématographe; the second volume of jaw-dropping Japanese art-sleaze from Pink Line; and, finally, the first release from the mysterious Reviver. Meanwhile, over at Mélusine, the incredible 3-disc deluxe edition of the first release from Mitchell Brothers Film Group will also be available on November 1st for Pre-Order at a slightly reduced price during the Flash Pre-Order event.
In addition, the Flash Pre-Order event will be your only chance to purchase one of our Black Friday discounted packages, which after Tuesday, November 4th, at 11:59 PM ET, will disappear from our site.
• Just VS Package = only VS and VS-named Sub Labels
• Absolutely Everything Package = All of VS + all Sub Labels
• Just the two Secret VS Releases
This year’s set of Secret VS Releases represents two very different, yet equally wonderful takes on oddball horror by directors at two very different ends of the horror spectrum, both making their UHD debuts and including one of the more infamous films of its type to exist in the annals of cult cinema.
Even with the bounty of riches in store for the Flash Pre-Order, the Black Friday Sale itself is sure to be one full of surprises and delights, as, in addition to massive discounts on hundreds of Vinegar Syndrome and Partner Label releases, we'll finally unveil the two Secret VS Releases, two new VSAs, a VSL, a second Cinématographe, a Degausser Video VHS, new Variant Slips, and more!

Plus, on the Mélusine site, in addition to the debut of Mitchell Brothers Film Group and the second release from Pink Line, as soon as Black Friday goes live, we’ll be unveiling a new series under Distribpix + Something Weird which you absolutely won’t want to miss.
Vinegar Syndrome's Slashed & Trashed Black Friday 2025 sale begins on November 28th at exactly 12:01 AM ET—be prepared!

A final note:
As always, at 12:01 PM ET on November 1st, we’ll be adding the complete November roster of Partner Label releases to the site for Pre-Order, including fresh titles from AGFA, IFC, Shudder, Saturn’s Core, and more! These can be easily added to your Flash Pre-Order packages using our Add to Existing Order shipping option, or shipped separately and delivered ahead of the Black Friday Sale.
~ See you all next week!

How's everyone's "Syntober" been going? I've been able to make a dent in my want list thus lowering my Black Friday expenditure.
Started out with:
Devil Fetus/Her Vengeance
The Seventh Curse/Witch from Nepal
both were a bit pricey, but I was always going to get them eventually and I can't see them coming down much more in price. They're not Last Gasp fer cryin' out loud.
added:
Sick of Myself
The Black Room
neither were on my radar, but I fell for the sales pitches on the site.
Black Eyed Susan
definitely one I was going to get on BF, I saw it on someone's top ten list so this was an easy buy
Mark of the Devil
probably screwed up on this, as even though I do like the movie, I already have the Arrow special edition. Chalk it up to VS fanboydom.
There's a couple more I'm hoping hit the sale list in the next week.

I've sat out the month long horror movie sale as there hasn't been anything of interest I want to buy.
My VS horror movie collection is small but I still hope to watch Dracula Sucks and Through the Looking Glass for the horror challenge.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Nothing beyond those two Hong Kong double features at the outset. I have little doubt, though, that both will be cheaper than their Syntober pricing down the road as there are still plenty of both in stock, with or without slips. And then I’ll kick myself for not waiting. It literally always happens, except for maybe those super-hot items that sell out fast (like RAD or the KEEP box), but those are rare.
And because I’ve loaded up in so many sales over the years, I’ve got most of the titles they’ve offered in Syntober so far (the ones of interest, anyway). I make sure to scour my old order confirmations to so I don’t double up, and in most cases I discover that some titles were cheaper previously. For example, yesterday’s title SHRIEK OF THE MUTILATED was in one of my orders from August 2023, with slip, for +/- $10-12 US. Another Syntober title that was similarly around $12 in a previous sale DEVONSVILLE TERROR. Maybe shouldn’t mention this but BLACK ROOM was around $12 back in February. I’m not sure if your other acquisitions have been in other sales yet, so those were likely solid deals for the time being. Plus you get all those bonus points, which add up fast.
I think my problem, though, is I simply have too much VS stuff already!
And now that they regularly have ‘60% off’ and ‘70% off’ (and more!) sections in nearly every sale, their half-off deals make me hesitate sometimes, especially if there are still lots of copies available. I’m so cheap, I know. Admittedly I almost always make exceptions for Hong Kong stuff because that’s a massive part of my lifelong collection, but even with those I end up cringing a bit when VS offers steeper discounts later on.

Yeah, I figure a lot of these movies are ones that were for sale at super discounts other times, or will be available at them later, that's why I've tried showing restraint. And I also noticed Shriek and Devonsville on the Syntober sale when I've gotten them cheaper at previous outings (both are great movies, BTW). I always breathe a sigh of relief when the Syntober sale of the day is one already in my collection.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Still some titles to be revealed later in the month, and the 20 partner label titles are dropping at noon, but as for the rest…

Nothing that’s a lock for me so far, although I’m thinking about the Shaw Scares set and Timecrimes.

The ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING PACKAGE is back! Secure your copy of every single November VS site release, including our latest VSU, all four November VS releases (including both Secret Releases), both November VSAs, both November Cinématographe's, plus the debut release from Reviver, all packaged together in one comprehensive bundle, and for a total savings of over $25 when compared to our regular Black Friday sale prices.
We hope you’ve already explored the listings for our latest VSU, which offers the 4K UHD debut of the late 80s gross-out classic, THE GARBAGE PAIL KIDS MOVIE (1987), newly and exclusively restored in 4K and presented in beautiful Dolby Vision, along with a generous selection of both new and archival extras, but that’s only an eleventh (!) of what this incredible package has to offer.
Also included is the 4K UHD debut of one of the wildest genre films from the first decade of the 21st century: director Nacho Vigalondo’s insane sci-fi-horror shocker, TIMECRIMES (2007), a multi-award-winning film presented in a brand-new, director-approved 4K restoration.
Plus, the first entry in a new box-set series celebrating the jaw dropping, beautiful, weird, squirm inducing, and like no-other horror filmography of the legendary Shaw Brothers Studio, with SHAW SCARES VOL. 1, which presents the Blu-ray debut of the twist-filled anthology, HAUNTED TALES (1980), the delightfully weird SEX BEYOND THE GRAVE (1984), and the absolutely diabolical and extraordinarily unsettling HELL HAS NO BOUNDARY (1982), all exclusively restored by VS from their original film negatives.
And that, still, isn’t even the half of it, as this package will also secure your copies of both VS Secret Releases, the identities of which will remain shrouded in mystery until the moment the Black Friday Sale goes live on November 28th. But we can guarantee that this set of surprises will offer the worldwide 4K UHD debuts of two twisted takes on terror from a set of directors who have both achieved legendary status for their distinctive takes on the genre, both from exclusive new restorations and in their most extensively extras-packed editions ever.
From Cinématographe, we have a delectable duo of surprises, with the 4K UHD debut of the grim and gripping 80s true crime thriller AT CLOSE RANGE, along with the Blu-ray debut of a genre-bending sleeper from an iconic American filmmaker.
And if you’re craving more action, our set of VSAs presents an early 80s Hong Kong extravaganza in its longest-ever home-video version, and an under-seen 80s thrill-ride that gets a new restoration and an extras-packed edition.
Meanwhile, our next VSL will offer mid-century monster thrills in its Blu-ray debut, also from a brand new restoration.
Finally, we present the debut release from Reviver, a new line curated and produced by Vinegar Syndrome Film Archive, focusing entirely on long-lost and never-on-video feature and short films from our massive film archive! REVIVER VOL. 1 offers a trio of long-lost shorts, along with a savage regional shocker unseen for close to half a century, which will remain a total mystery until you watch the disc itself!
This massive package includes 11 releases:

Whoa! Timecrimes! What a great movie. Probably my favorite time travel movie after 12 Monkeys, and one that acknowledges that any time travelers from the future will have always been there, if that makes any sense.
Also, one of maybe half a dozen films that I was allowed to thread into a 35mm projector and fire up (I was being trained on 35mm projection during a Latino Film Festival)

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
I was at the VS store here Friday afternoon after a long absence and got to yakking with the owner about HK and Shaw movies and the various releases (I traded in a bunch of lesser used stuff toward MEN FROM THE GUTTER and some other new-ish sets) and he inadvertently let it slip that the then-still only teased HK 3-pack of horror movies was a Shaw set, which was a nice surprise. Knowing that many of the better known ones were in Arrow’s SHAWSCOPE 4, I guessed at a bunch of eligible titles I thought might be fitting and he would only nod that I got SEX BEYOND THE GRAVE right because Imprint already released it (as far as I can recall, it was only ever on VCD from Hong Kong and cut to oblivion in the infamous Ziieagle Box player from Singapore). HELL HAS NO BOUNDARY was also in my guesses, but he could only say I was in the ballpark with one from my remaining list.
HAUNTED TALES was off my radar (and likewise VCD-only back in the day, I think) but Ive always been curious to see it as it was co-directed by the studio’s ‘classy’ director Chor Yuen and T. F. Mou, the dude who gave us MEN BEHIND THE SUN! Interesting pairing, I suspect!
(related note: I griped previously that one of these boutiques could easily do a multi-film Shaw Crime set, and based on this horror release, I still think it would be worthwhile)
Obviously I’m curious about that early-80’s HK picture they’re teasing. I’ve long thought some of Tsui Hark’s earliest pictures are criminally overdue for archival treatments, but who knows, maybe it’s just another Shaw flick.
Totally agree on TIME CRIMES. That’s one of the better time-travel films ever, and on a relatively small scale, with some great twists! Years ago, Magnet Releasing put out a limited edition DVD (apparently a Blockbuster exclusive?) that contained a wildly different alternate cut of the film that unfurls in chronological order and shows how well thought out Vigalondo’s mechanics were, and damned if it’s nearly as good as the released version! Presumably VS will include it, even if I do prefer the release version. There was a decent making-of doc on the DVD, but VS could easily expand on that.
Also agree on THE GARBAGE PAIL KIDS movie. I loved the original concept of the cards and even have the ‘art book’ version of them, but that movie is insufferable. But I guess VS knows it has a very nostalgic fanbase.
Trailers are up now:
Some amusing YT comments on this one:
Finally, an interesting BTS on the REVIVER release with the ‘mystery title’ revealed by someone in the comments as 1972’s BOOTS AND THE PREACHER (unless VS is being cagey and showing an unrelated ‘lost film’ in the video).

The “VS Ultra” line of titles have never been high art by any stretch, but I kind of understood the vibe they were going for with each release, and was generally happy to pick up most of the movies for the sake of having a ridiculously high quality release for such cinema. But, I do feel like Mac & Me, and now Garbage Pail Kids are a case of VS seeing just how far they can take it.
I can’t justify shelling out that kind of cash for either of these, especially not when the first VSU title (Beastmaster!) was $35, and now these are $40+ ‘on sale’.
These last two VSU titles in particular are Big Lots bargain bin movies at best… a decidedly bigger step down, even from the trashy midnight fare that the rest of them have been.

Yeah, I think the last BF pre-order I did was Flesh for Frankenstein because that's a movie I absolutely have to have, and Timecrimes is right there, especially with all the bonuses on the limited edition.
Oh, and a last "Syntober" update, I only got Terminal Island because I'm a sucker for Corman-esque prison camp movies, even ones Corman had nothing to do with. Like this one. Thought I got off light, as the rest of the Syntober titles I either already owned or wasn't interested in. Then Phase IV comes up, easy pass, except work was slow so I spent a lot of time researching it and seeking out reviews. Long story short, it's on its way.

Ended up buying about 5 over the month, and their comics, nothing that was a must have, but just giving in to my ‘sale’ addiction and media hoarding.
