Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Looks like the guesses on THE DARK HALF and the IRON ANGELS TRILOGY were indeed correct.
Very impressed that they got four cast/crew interviews for the IRON ANGELS set (in addition to the usual commentaries and some trailers). These people are out there, and hardly off the radar (you can find hundreds of them on Facebook - it’s the only thing I use it for on the rare times I use it), but it’s kind of a shame how many previous releases of various films couldn’t do this.
ALSO:
BREATHLESS (Gere version)
CRIMINALLY INSANE 2 (which should’ve been paired with the original on their earlier release, frankly)
CHARLEY ONE EYE
LET’S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH 4K

Pretty nice variant slipcovers on From Beyond and Amityville Horror. I thought Congo might be on sale but it is not.

I forgot this was at midnight rather than noon. Oh well! Let’s Scare Jessica to Death (also widely speculated) is a strong possibility, but I’m not sure I’ll be placing an order this go-around.

I have all the limited edition VSU movies except Congo, Virtuosity, and The Golden Child. It's not the end of the world Congo isn't included on this sale and unless a few movies I have my eye on come close to selling out I'll likely sit out this sale.

They spelled Paul Verhoeven wrong on the slipcover.

I have some odds ’n ends in my cart, but nothing really at risk of selling out. I’m about to pop downtown to the VS store to compare prices in their sale. Thanks to the duties/tariffs thing, there’s no guarantee a site order won’t get nailed crossing the border, so some things could be the same price or maybe a little cheaper just to grab up here and hold off on the rest for future sales (or the end of the U.S. administration in about, what, twenty years or so.
)
Resist – you can do it!!
On the other hand, have you seen LAST GASP yet? There’s only, like, 1200 copies left!

The hairy chest Dirty Work boxed set is already down to 1363 copies and they produced 10,000. Why God why?🤣

Just noticed a week-old Instagram post from AGFA mentioning that they’re in the process of digitizing all the old ‘Martial Arts Mayhem’ tapes from the Something Weird archive for an eventual Blu-ray release. A good reminder that there’s still a lot of SW complications (including a lot of adult stuff) that they never uploaded to YouTube, so hopefully more of these are on the way.

It’s Partner Label month, so a bunch of new titles are up to order now. (Nothing irresistible for me this time around, though.)

^ Same here. The last few new announcement batches (VS included) have been easy on my wallet. The partner titles include a lot of relatively recent stuff I’ve already seen on DVD from the local library and don’t need to own. Might be a couple of items I’d get in the cheap new year’s sale if they last until such time.
I can vouch for THE DEVIL AT YOUR HEELS as a fairly interesting doc from the ‘crazy stunts’ Evel Knievel era of the 70’s, about Canadian car jump daredevil Ken Carter. I remember seeing clips of the high-profile St. Lawrence River rocket car jump – which went about as well as anyone would think it might, except of course the people performing it – on newscasts back in the day and being fascinated even as a little kid that anyone would ever think a Lincoln Continental land yacht would make an ideal rocket.

Wouldn’t mind checking out the supplements, but definitely only if it’s discounted heavily some day, because the movie itself is free to stream up here on the NFB website, and they’ve also have it available on YouTube for 14 years (although I’m not sure if a Americans have access).
Short version of the Lincoln stunt, which wasn’t actually performed by the Canadian subject of the documentary, but an American replacement after several delays:
- - - - - - - - - -
Seemingly absent on the disc is footage of Carter’s final jump a couple of years later, in Peterborough just east of Toronto. (Note: the date and vehicle in the thumbnail is wrong for some reason):
^ News doc about that jump from 2013, also not on the disc:

My copy of Limited Edition The Golden Child has or is about to ship.
I have no buyers remorse and look forward to watching this film again along with the extras.
That being said, the new normal price for movies like this one is a big reason why I am probably on track to pick up no more than 10-15 titles in total this year. A desire to spend no more than $500 on Blu/UHDs this year means I now take home at most 15-20 titles vs 20-35 titles easy if prices were the same as they were 7-10 years back.
I have accepted this and just tell myself to be really sure that I want to own a particular movie or show in a physical format.
ETA: The limited edition slipcase edition looks to be sold out. I did have a feeling this would be a popular title.

I am a non subscriber and I just got an email that my Halfway to Black Friday order has shipped. Surprised it was this early, I expected it not to ship until the end of the month.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
My film has arrived. I look forward to watching The Golden Child again this upcoming weekend in 4K.
Nice packaging for the film (the magnetic close case is awesome). Yes, it included a replacement UHD disc due to a production error that I guess was caught in the nick of time to automatically include replacement discs instead of having you reach out to VS for a replacement. VS gets a kudos from me for not having to go through CS for a replacement.
Even the booklet is nice, for a change the essays are in a large enough print that I do not have to squint to read the text or use a magnifying glass, lol!!
ETA: It sounds like the 2.0 audio track was accidentally left off and folks are saying this is a solid audio track for the film and would have definitely had folks going hard at VS for not including this track. It does sound like VS would have got enough complaints about the issue that an eventual replacement disc program would have been announced so they just got ahead of this by including a disc in a sealed paper sleeve that has V2 on it so you know you are playing the correct disc in your 4K player.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
They did something similar with replacement discs for last year's release of Looking for Mr Goodbar too.I can't remember what the problem was, just that it affected playback on some 4K players.
ETA - I got my order in today, and my copy of Flesh for Frankenstein had a replacement disc slipped into it. I had no idea that release had any problems.

If anyone is curious, I received my non-slipcover version of Dirty Work today and the cover art is just the regular poster art, thankfully.
Edit: it is reversible to this artwork though:

I believe the original 4k of Flesh for Frankenstein the flesh tones appeared to be red when played in some 4k players so they issued a fixed replacement disc. That's what I remember.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
I got that one with the replacement disc too, a few years ago. I had to search online to see what was special about it. I’ve received about five of those, I think, from VS over the years, some known, some catching me unaware. Its good that they do it, as do other companies, but as it takes me forever to get around to watching the mountains of discs I have here, I do worry that I’ll discover I missed out on a replacement here or there that I can no longer get because the item is OOP. I guess as long as the discs I did purchase play through ok, I can live with it, especially with some of the oddball stuff that VS distributes, much of which I sell onward.

Edited my post. The Flesh tones appeared to be red in some 4k players. I've had a few movies with issues (Showgirls & Beastmaster) but glad VS was so quick in their response when issuing replacement discs.

- The PG-13 Blu-ray has all the special features except the alternate ending scene, trailer, and 2-hour VHS-quality assembly cut.
- The Uncut Blu-ray has only the alternate ending scene, trailer, and 2-hour VHS-quality assembly cut.
