I dunno if this has already been posted, but I saw this video this morning.

I like this movie. So I will likely get this release.

I can't recall if I ever saw Dirty Work before, but I also watched the video posted and it appears to be the kind of movie that is better to watched stoned or drunk with a buddy of like-minded humor.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Ordered the standard versions of Dirty Work and Jade, and the VSU box for The Golden Child, of course.

I’m hoping the Dirty Work standard cover isn’t that horrendous cover shown on the webpage but it won’t matter much

The sale will be 50% off for titles that were released 6 months ago or longer. (I want to say it’s more than 6 months, so something from the Black Friday sale wouldn’t be half-price at the Halfway sale, but I could be misremembering.)
OK, thanks. So the current price for Last Tango in Paris is just the normal "discounted" price they were already selling it for? And it won't be part of the 50% off sale until the actual Black Friday sale, by which point it could possibly be sold out.

Michael Ritchie had a quite varied career. He's probably best known for directing The Bad New Bears and Fletch.

Shit, I love Norm, so I need to buy Dirty Work. But yeah, that cover...yikes!

Yeah, that cover is enough to make me not buy it. But I wonder if it will include a complete version of “Men in Black Who Like to Have Sex With Each Other”?

Michael Ritchie has been Alan Smithee before.

The web site suggests that it's already been marked down from $49.99 MSRP to $36.99. Is that the Halfway to Black Friday Sale price, or will it go lower? I thought in previous VS sales I bought discs at 50% off.
Yeah, it's not just you. A friend of mine always calls during these sales "Vinegar Syndrome sale this weekend!!!!", and I'm like, "no, this is just an additional discount on pre-orders for a few upcoming titles".

I wouldn't be surprised if I get a call this weekend.

Dirty Work is one of those movies I've always wanted to watch but never got around to it. Being a fan of everyone involved I'll likely buy this new 4k release but I have other movies I want first during the sale.

Dirty Work is a guilty pleasure. I love Norm and that's an impressive set of extras. I never imagined that a comedy of such middling success as Dirty Work would have an "assembly cut" somewhere out there. I debated for a few minutes, but went ahead and ordered the Standard Edition. I'm pretty sure the uglier cover is the limited edition slipcover, but we'll see.

If I do buy Dirty Work I might have to go with the Standard edition. That is a limited edition box I'd feel kind of gross having it in my collection. That's happened a few times with buying VS movies.

For those wondering like I was...here is the cover everyone is mentioning. Cover your eyes!

Who thought that was a good idea? It's not even funny.

Back cover:

Hard to tell which is the limited-edition hardcover slip case and which is the slipcover between the above and the below:

I intentionally bought the Standard Edition of eXistenZ because the LE slipcover with Jude Law's hairy chest skeeved me out. This reminds me of that a lot.

I bought the standard edition of Don't open until Christmas because I thought the slipcover was kind of gross of a topless woman about to get slashed. I'd post the Pic but it kind of goes against forum rules.

Both covers are terrible, but at least the one with fish isn't gross.

I think the inner slip cover of Norm holding the dead fish will be part of the reversable cover art on the standard edition.

I got the AGFA mystery mixtape vault release this weekend. It's kind of hard to give an exact description of this release but if you ever watch Redletter Media's show "wheel of the worst" where they roast random vhs tapes (church tapes, employee training videos, old exercise tapes, etc.) These mix tapes are clips of those kind of random videos minus the commentary.

I also liken the mixtapes to the work of Everything Is Terrible, which, while not quite as old as Red Letter Media, has been mining old social engineering films and videos and other forgotten ephemera for longer, possibly. Some of it is real nightmare fuel. Similar to AGFA, they use little editing tweaks or juxtapositioning to ‘comment’ on the weirdness of the stuff they dig up. They’ve also presented their own ‘mixtapes’ in a number of touring performances at rep cinemas and the like. I’m that sense, I do bristle a bit at having paid to watch VS do what those other ‘creators’ have been giving away for free for years.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

I've bought three of these AGFA bluray sets in just under a month and feel like I got hooked instantly. They are just so entertaining and how they are put together. When we had an Alamo Drafthouse in Kansas City they would do pre-shows with a lot of these old theater promos and material from Something Weird and AGFA. I miss having an Alamo close to me. I think you recommend to me Brian the Something Weird YouTube channel and you are right it's such a treasure trove of video oddities and old educational films from the past that are so much fun to watch.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

It’s a great resource. They/she stopped uploading four months ago, just when they were moving from shorts collections to really obscure feature films, so that sucked. Hopefully everything stays up there, regardless. I’d love to see more shorts go up, but I suspect a lot of what’s left might be the sex/loop collections they had, so YouTube would be a no-go. I do have my eyes on AGFA’s DANGER STORIES disc, which at least features the ‘mixtape’ as a supplement rather than the main attraction. Looks like the slip version is running low now, and I’m still not sure I want to pay the premium. And with the tariff bullshit and my refusal to cross the border right now, it would cost even more to get it shipped to Canada. Might as well just pick up a copy at the store here when they get it in.

Regarding YouTube, I don't think I mentioned this previously, but AV Geeks also has a channel that’s an equally phenomenal (and probably superior) resource for these old educational films. Proprietor / curator Skip Elsheimer – an acolyte of the legendary Rick Prelinger of the Prelinger Archives, the real granddaddy of preserving these legacies – has collected this material for decades, and has a lot of stuff you won’t find from Something Weird. He’s also in the supplements on the new DANGER STORIES disc.

In addition to all of the individual film uploads on his channel, he also does a daily, hour-plus ‘AV Geeks Lunch’ livestream where he provides informative intros between the films (you’ll need to skip through the ‘starting soon’ preambles):

Elsheimer also released a great series of ‘Educational Archives’ DVDs through Fantoma many years ago, most of which can still be had fairly cheaply (except for the ‘lunchbox’ collections). There’s some real gems on these:

Vinegar Syndrome just put up high resolution pictures of the Dirty Work boxed set and it's even more disgusting. I'll go with the standard edition for sure.

Mark my words, nobody will want that ugly custom slip. Once it eventually sells out people will be paying $300 for that ugly ass cover in three years...if it sells out before then.

^ Looks like the standard edition is down to just over 200 copies. Not sure what the total run was on that one, and of course it will be replenished if it runs out, but clearly it’s moving some units simply by being the preferred option.

It'll be replenished once the VS website comes back in July plus online retail stores will start selling the standard edition sometime later this summer.
