Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Im due for a VS website purchase soon. Ill probably buy Virtuosity and Faces of Death after I get my tax refund check. It sounds like Faces of Death had to be reconstructed for this release as it had 35mm & 16 mm film elements along with the news reel footage. This video from Vinegar Syndrome explains the remastering process.

I just got in my purchase for Faces of Death and Virtuosity this morning. Faces of Death is my very first VSA movie purchase and I will now have all the VSU movie boxes up through Virtuosity. Im still missing the Golden Child, Mac and Me, Garbage Pail Kids movie, and Tank girl.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
I had all the VSA’s until they started cranking out the martial arts stuff, otherwise Faces Of Death would have been my first skipped one. I don’t need that in my collection or to ever see it again.
I do have all the VSU’s up to Virtuosity and plan on getting the rest. Same with Cinematographie if they drop Go Fish and Swimming To Cambodia to crazy low prices. I have zero interest in those.

I watched Faces of Death on YouTube and wasnt that bothered by it. Im curious to see how it turns out in 4k and the extras that go along with it. I actually decided on getting The Golden Child as well. Now im down to three VSU movies im missing. For the April movies has anyone seen Mutant? It looks like fun and a forgotten 80s horror movie.

^ I’ve always found it kinda fun and generally well-made despite a lot of production issues that prevented it from being better. As mentioned earlier in the thread it had previous DVD and Blu special-edition releases from Code Red over the years. Both were ok presentations, very watchable and with really good supplements, but with room for improvement that I’m sure VS has taken care of. It did not need to be upgraded to 4K and won’t be a better film because of it, but since they did the scan that way I can understand the need to pitch it as a ‘format upgrade’ at a higher price point to separate it from the Code Red edition. I seriously doubt it will sell out before a sale, though, so I’d personally recommend adding it to your ‘save for later’ list until it’s discounted. That’s my plan, anyway. There’s no way it will sell out any time soon, and in the meantime you can watch an excellent-quality version of it on Tubi to get a feel for the production values, performances, etc.

Mutant looks like a good buy on the next sale if I dont get it sooner. Vinegar Syndrome sure does love Wings Hauser.

The Golden Child looks good on 4K. CharIotte Lewis looks good in 4K. I got the regular edition back in February from Amazon. While the hard box is nice, I didn't need the book.

I finally watched China o Brian this morning after blind buying the Vinegar Syndrome 4k set. Its a pretty fun movie and a different spin on the Western Formula as Cynthia Rothrock being the one to clean up her home town. Ill watch the sequel later today. I didnt know it was a Golden Harvest picture since its set in America.

The sequel wasnt as good as the first movie. There was really no explanation of the villain or their motives. The plot was kind of strung along for more ass kicking by Rothrock and her costars. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

Vinegar Syndrome really has released some fun movies starring Rothrock. My favorite is Undefeatable.

Undefeatable is great, as is Sworn to Justice. I keep hoping that either they will rerelease the Martial Law movies or someone else will get the rights and put out non limited edition discs.

It took 20 days but my VS order finally shipped. I think that is the longest ive had wait buying from them when it wasn't from a sale. If it didn't ship this week i was about to contact their customer service.

Trailers for the new VS reveals.
Also some new Partner titles. Aside from Kani’s release of the excellent Shaw Bros drama MY NAME AIN’T SUZIE (slip version sold out super fast on that one, so off to the store I go
) nothing super urgent for me but ymmv, of course. I’d like to see the Canadian crime film RUBBER GUN as the restoration has been making the rounds up here lately, but probably more of a sale or stream title down the road.

For an “event” month, this does feel like a pretty underwhelming slate to me.

I often got Explorers mixed up with Innerspace. Maybe it's because I only saw both once.

If anyone wants to avoid paying $33 for Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean the Olive blu-ray is currently $9.95 at Hamilton Book. I am happy with that disc since I only paid $13 for it when the Olive discs started going out of print and don't feel like I need it in 4K or with fancy slipbox packaging.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
^ Seems like a decent sale, and it includes a lot of their most recent releases, too (not the pre-order stuff, of course). I assume many of these would come with slipcovers unless they already sold out on the VS site. For example, the artwork shown AT B&N for the Bleeding Skull release HOUSE OF DREAMS is definitely the standard edition, but they’ve cropped it in such a way that you don’t see the case, which is kinda misleading. Same for some other titles, the more I skim. But if slips aren’t an issue then those prices seem pretty decent. The only downside is no VS points, but I assume B&N members have something similar?
(Worth noting also that VS’s Half Way to Black Friday sale is in a couple of weeks, so some of the older titles might be 60% or 70% there, but randomly chosen.)

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
I saw somewhere someone posted to avoid the B&N sale because you don't get slipcovers, which I feel is a dumb reason to pay more but whatever.
(But if it's something in a hardbox with a book, that's a different situation all together).

That would get me and I suspect others DVDTalkers to buy this film on its actual release date instead of waiting for a sale.
