Re: UHD release announcements

After reading the comments in the Tenet thread, I'll pick up the 4k blind, since it seems like multiple views are needed.

I think for a hardcore Nolan fan, it's good. I would expect that, with this one, there will be a ton of discussion and video essays about "what's really happening in TENET?" and whatnot.
For anyone who enjoys his films well enough but isn't hardcore... or even dislikes them... maybe not as much.

At one point I was a pretty big Nolan fanboy. Some of my love for his films has kind of dropped off honestly. I’ve liked his films less and less since around Interstellar I’d say. He’s still a good filmmaker, but his films don’t have a lot of rewatch value to me.
For what it's worth, I feel the same. Even going back to the pre-Interstellar flicks, I'm not sure they all hold up that well to rewatches either. Post-Interstellar, I did quite enjoy Dunkirk, though.

Re: UHD release announcements

I think Blue Underground is being smart with UHD because they have most of that market so far to themselves in the indie horror space. It's not like studios are putting out waves of horror movies on UHD. There's very little competition on UHD for horror movies. We are starting to see a few more releases but it's slow going. Collectors are snapping up whatever gets released at the moment.

It's also worth mentioning that the UHD films Bill Lustig is releasing are films he's owned the rights to for quite a while (a few he Directed).

No pressure to release his version before someone else's. Blue Underground then becomes the only place to get so many of these fan favorites.

Nice. I’ll probably get this one. I don’t own Tremors in any format.

Heat is with Fox currently, unfortunately. Fox is caught up in Disney's "We haven't officially abandoned UHD Blu-ray for catalog titles, but we're definitely also not going to release any ever again" policy.

Sweet. And we definitely need Blade II on 4K as well. That's been needing a good remaster just like this one.

Basic Instinct is coming to 4K next April

This is supposedly a new 4K remaster from Studio Canal.

That Best Buy Steelbook for Blade is quite nice looking. I’m not the hugest fan of the film though.

My thoughts exactly.

Not sure about Basic Instinct, I used to have the DVD that came with the ice pick inkpen but sold it off, and regretted doing so. It's probably not enough of a "favorite film" to rebuy just to see Stone's secret place in 4k.

Re: UHD release announcements

I love Blade, but I'm not paying $40 for it on 4k. I'd pay $15 or $20, but no $40.

I agree. They are nuts with the $45 price. The most I will pay for a 4K steelbook is $30 or less.

Wonder why they went so high since they have been pretty far with their steelbook prices so far? This one will stick around for awhile at that price and will likely fall pretty far after that. I don't see it selling out at $45 at all.

It'll almost certainly drop to $25 -- which seems to be where Warner's catalog titles land -- closer to release. I mean, I wouldn't pay $25 either, personally, but it's still better than $40!

I honestly appreciate the offer, but it's one of those things that's not really about the general item, but the item in particular that I owned.

I had originally bought it when every kind of store would sell DVDs, and I was in an office supply store near my work (that's now a Brazilian steakhouse) and they had a really good price on it, and I bought it blind because so many people were talking about it.

I don't think I ever watched it more than a couple times, but it was such a neat thing to be a part of my collection. But, over the years my collection kinda got out of hand and my wife pushed me to get rid of discs that didn't really have good replay value and that was one of them. Same with my Evil Dead 2 tin from Anchor Bay since I upgraded to Blu. They weren't exceptionally rare or anything, but they were things that I had made the effort to find and put into my collection. If it was an absolute favorite movie, I'd replace it right away, but things like this were more about The Collection than the actual movie.

We're still downsizing titles, I watched Flash Gordon for the first time a few weeks ago and I was listing it on the eBay app before the credits had finished, just not my thing. But if I'm going to curate my collection further, I'm going to do it right.

Again, thank you for the offer.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Basic Instinct. I only know of the famous Sharon Stone scene.

Oh my God. That was like one of the biggest cult movies of the 1990s. Sex and lots of sex. You were probably what like 5 when it came out? Guessing it wasn’t on your radar at all when you got older. It was prime Sharon Stone when she was in her early 30s.

Michael Douglas got divorced because of that movie because he became addicted to sex after filming it.

Its a movie that really needed a new remaster. So I’ll likely get it next year. Supposedly there is a 2 hour making of documentary that was filmed for the laser disc that was never released on Blu or DVD. Hoping it gets released here.

Re: UHD release announcements

I think I was on the borderline of being 17 and sneaking in the theater to watch it.

One of the rare NC-17 movies

Re: UHD release announcements

It was initially given an NC-17 but Verhoeven trimmed some for a R-rated theatrical release. The Director's Cut was later released on home video as Unrated.

I wonder if we get both cuts.
