Re: UHD release announcements

Some European retailers are listing Alien as a Spring 2019 release, tying into the film's 40th anniversary.

Only the original is mentioned, not any of the sequels.

VHS
Snapper DVD
Ultimate Collector's DVD
Blu Ray
Blu-Ray 5 film collection (really cheap when Go Hastings was going out of business)
Extended cut

I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be getting this one.

Re: UHD release announcements

For some reason I'm not too excited. I have very little faith 4K is going to do it justice. Lately 4K has been on a shit streak when it comes to very popular titles.

Will Warner do justice on the 4K? I doubt it.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but it looks like all three existing Predator flicks are getting the 4K treatment.
Amazon Amazon

On a separate note, I really wish the 4K releases would start leaving the BD out entirely.

If it's not compromising the packaging or inflating the price, I'm okay with it. With the current trend being to leave extras off of the UHD BD and making users switch over to the BD to watch 'em, I'm not sure that'll change any time soon, for better or worse.

I did start buying UHD BDs before actually having a 4K setup, though, so maybe I'm biased.

. . .

This isn't exactly breaking news, but for anyone who missed it, StudioCanal is prepping Evil Dead II for a Halloween release in Europe.

Best Buy's steelbooks aren't great, but they're less terrible...?

On the subject of superhero movies, a Czech retailer is listing the first three X-Men movies as coming to UHD BD in October.

That makes me wish all the covers were the A logo they've used for each teaser poster.

Re: UHD release announcements

The original Ghost in the Shell, and its sequel, GITS: Innocence, are available on UHD in Japan. Pretty pricey but they do supposedly have English subtitles.
It sounds like the original is worth the upgrade, but Innocence is pretty bad.

Re: UHD release announcements

Somewhat surprisingly, DC is re-releasing a couple of their animated titles from a few years back -- The Killing Joke and Assault on Arkham -- on UHD BD. I guess that means the day-and-date UHD titles have been selling well. Maybe they'll sell well enough that we'll start getting the Atmos treatment one of these days.

Re: UHD release announcements

Magnolia/Magnet are releasing
Higher Power Higher Power
next month, and it seems like they're pulling out all the stops, complete with Dolby Vision and Atmos.

It's exciting to see something like this come from a relatively small distributor.

Re: UHD release announcements

Today in fairly random appearances on an international retailer: Shutter Island, next month. Dunno how much stock to put in that.

Several Bruce Lee films -- The Way of the Dragon, The Big boss, Game of Death, and The Chinese Connection -- are popping up in France for an October 27th release.

Wonder if Shout! will ever actually release those Bruce Lee films in UHD.

I'd buy Shutter Island if it does hit 4K.

Shout lost the rights to all the Bruce Lee movies on BD. They no longer sell them on their site. Whatever is left on the market is it.

So it would have to be another distributor for any potential 4K releases.

This set has been unofficially imminent (reported on many sites) for a good few months now.
