The Can't Hardly Wait Blu-ray didn't look all that great.

Re: UHD release announcements

Fred Dekker confirmed at a convention that he’s working on a UHD remaster of Night of the Creeps that Scream Factory will be putting out. Inevitable but extremely welcome news!

Re: UHD release announcements

I love both of these movies, but I have a hard time believing there is going to be much, if any, improvement over the Blu-rays.

Re: UHD release announcements

A Standalone 4k release of "A League of their Own" is coming out on September 3rd. I will likely buy this as I've never owned it on any format.
https://www.highdefdigest.com/news/s...3rd-2024/49448
It's a home run with this hilarious and beloved comedy, starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna. With baseball lineups and locker rooms left empty during World War II, the newly-founded All-American Girls Baseball League brought talented women to the big leagues—and brought fans to the stands. The indomitable Dottie Hinson (Davis) finds herself leading a rag tag group of players who end up winning over the heart of their has-been coach, Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks). Lori Petty, Rosie O’Donnell and Jon Lovitz round out the all-star roster. Based on the true story of the pioneering women who blazed the trail for generations of athletes.

^Looks fishy but I said fuck it and bought one for a lark. We will see what happens...

I like buying strange stuff like this from time to time. Thanks for the post...maybe.

The website looks like it was updated around 1999. Should be legit.

I've owned it in all formats, though I can't remember if I got it on laser. I find it so rewatchable. It was one of my biggest reasons to get Columbia Classics Vol 1.

Aside from Totally F***ed Up in the Araki collection, Criterion's entire September slate is in UHD:

What sucks is I spent a fortune on the Columbia Classics set and this stand alone has better video. First sony made the set limited edition and then now screws over everyone who bought the set. Grrrr

Re: UHD release announcements

It seems inevitable that movies released in these boxed sets will get individual releases if they are box exclusives. You might as well wait when that happens. Sweeney Todd and A League of their Own both come out on September 3rd so I'll likely be buying both.

I have vague, vague memories of watching that Gilligan's Island movie long ago. I might get it just because I want to see if I remember anything from it.

By "better video," you mean they added a Dolby Vision flag to it?

It shows my copy shipped. I definitely remember watching it on TV as a kid along with the Globetrotters movie they did.

I also have the DVDs of the two animated series. All these were guilty pleasures as a kid, and I remember the original show being on constantly. I remember getting excited when you would catch an early episode from the Black & White season with the original opening. For some reason that seemed exotic and special.

I think he's upset that Sony is adding Dolby Vision to the standalone reissues when the box set copies didn't have it.

Re: UHD release announcements

That is a standard trick by Sony on UHD. They've reissued many early UHDs with a new Dolby Vision layer down the road in double dips.
