Re: UHD release announcements

I would think North By Northwest is on the top of the list of titles WB will showcase when they celebrate MGM's 100th anniversary in 2024. I've never been totally convinced of the color timing on the blu-ray, so I'm looking forward to a possible UHD.

Re: UHD release announcements

Stallone can do whatever he wants to V & VI as long as they still include the original cuts of both. Hope they do the exact same thing they did with the Rocky IV by releasing it with both cuts.

I still haven't seen the new cut of IV. Guess it won't be until they release a whole set of all the movies on 4K.

Agreed. I'm also hoping for Ben-hur and Doctor Zhivago.

Re: UHD release announcements

In regards to the whole Rocky thing, you'd think people would learn from how Star Trek the OG cast was released. There's going to be a set eventually with all of them. Like the Hitchcock stuff, I'm playing the long game

It's less about how difficult it would be to rework V, than about whether it's appropriate for Stallone to recut another (deceased) director's work.

Then again, Stallone did write the movie, and I suppose an argument can be made that he's the true auteur of that franchise. I think that by 1990, Avildsen was only brought in at all as a promotional opportunity to tie the series back to its roots. I doubt he ever had any passion for the movie he was making.

I wonder what other movies will get that WB 100 treatment?

Throughout the year, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will also release a dozen remastered titles available for the first time in 4K Ultra-High Definition, with titles ranging from the Superman 5-Film Collection to special 50th Anniversary editions of Enter the Dragon and The Exorcist.

I'd actually prefer a hybrid version of Rocky IV, but I don't see that happening.
When I went to see the new Rocky IV director's cut in the theater for it's 1 night only showing, there was a live broadcasted Q&A with Stallone and he said he worked on it for 9 months. He worked on it mostly during the height of the pandemic in an edit bay in LA. He wanted a little more time to finish it, but MGM wanted to get it out by Fall 2021, so he had to wrap it up. He's a really busy man with his new TV show and now trying to work on recuts of V and Rocky Balboa. With a set release date on February 28th and artwork printed, I think the discs are already printed and ready to go.

2 more films picked up for Unearthed. Horror fans will be delighted. Extras in the works for August Underground, Extras being made for Profane Exhibit. Just put in another film into the system on Friday for release right after Calamity of Snakes. We have about 8 films we have not announced yet. Working on a limited edition statue I am dying to show you BUT... gotta keep secrets, secret.

The Guyver Is almost done... it will be our 1st 4K release and since it is our 1st... still figuring out the 4k tech specs we need, to do it right. Cleaning it up a bit is what you would call the restoration process. Takes longer than we want but alas, has to be done. Serbian Film extended cut will be in 4K as well... so figuring that out as well. Might do a limited of it before we hit retailers.

I'm actually really excited... I think fans will rejoice.

2023 is going to be a banger of a year for Unearthed. 2024 is looking amazing as well...

Pretty looking set, but the fact that the 4K 1-3 films have been going for about $7.99 (or $20+ for the trilogy for a few years now) make it really fucking overpriced. Pass.

John Wick is gorgeous but those films are on sale all the time. Hard to justify $80 for it.

^exactly what I was thinking. Releasing a new overpriced and incomplete box set at this point in time is silly.

Re: UHD release announcements

That John Wick set reminds me of when WB would release a new "complete" set with each Harry Potter film. I wonder how many people have Harry Potter 1-3, Harry Potter 1-4 Harry Potter 1-5 and so on box sets?

Yeah this might be moderately more attractive if they included an empty JW4 steelbook for later usage.

Yeah, but even then, aren't a total of 5 or 6 movies being planned? I seem to remember reading part IV not being the end.

Re: UHD release announcements

Sudden Death is definitely one I want. Died Hard in a hockey arena.

I hope they can get Van Damme and Peter Hyams for the bonus material. It sucks that Powers Boothe is deceased. He was a great villain and would have loved to hear him to talk about this.

I do have the previous Universal barebones BD release. Glad I can upgrade.
