Re: DC Animated Universe Films

Went out to Target on my lunch break because I didn't want to miss this one. I didn't count but online says they had four and I'm pretty sure they were all there when I got there. My Target had them in front by the registers rather than in elec where they'd normally have it.

So when is the next/last Adam West voiced one coming out? I thought that would be next.

$30 is ridiculous for the 4K version. The BD was $17.

The steelbook for Batman & Harley Quinn seems easier to get than usual. If you use brickseek, it's relatively easy to find stock this time.

I can't decide whether Target realized the demand for these steelbooks and adjusted their orders accordingly or if these DC Animated movies are being released so often people are giving up trying to collect them all.

The last 3 or 4 Target steelbooks seem to have been easier to find.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

Batman & Harley is definitively the worst animated film released by DC other than Brainiac Attacks. The film can't decide if it's a a sequel to the animated series or a Harley goofball comedy. Even worst, is that Bruce Timm is did this like if he was fulfilling a fantasy/fetish he has with animated Harley. He ruined the Killing Joke by pulling the same shit. I'm just waiting for him doing a Supergirl film where she ends up fucking the entire Legion of Super Heroes so he can have his fantasy trifecta. Timm really needs Dini to have better stories all around. I'm extremely disappointed on how bad this film turned out and how the portrayal of Harley has gone downhill, especially when the character is turning 25 years old next month.

At least Gotham by Gaslight looks good.

Bruce Timm is the only reason why anyone ever liked Harley Quinn in the first place.

Don't forget that it's $19.99 or $3 more than the others. That might hurt sales as well.

Paul Dini would like to have a word with you.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

Batman and Harley Quinn is definitely quirky as an animated movie. It meshes the cruder 2017 comic book version of Harley Quinn (which is far, far removed from the original cartoon Harley) with the Batman and Nightwing of Batman: The Animated Series. You could easily take its events as happening a couple years after that series ended.

The change in Harley's voice actor is a bit jarring and takes some time getting comfortable with. That being said, it does have a few great gags that make it worth catching.

Like when someone from ARGUS casually says to Batman he'd like a piece of Lady Shiva's pie and they cut to Batman, stone faced.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I know most people hated the implied sex scene between Bruce and Barbara in The Killing Joke and while it was somewhat odd it didn't bother me a lot and I actually kind of bought it as something that happened in the moment during the story of the film. The hot for teacher/mentor thing was something I could envision and I didn't necessarily think it cheapened Barbara or Bruce but more just showed that they are human and give in to their urges.

The scene between Harley and Dick in Batman and Harley Quinn was a bit of a strange one though and felt forced to me. The whole setup and that it went on so long I think is why it's weird. Starting with her having him tied to her bed and then stripping to her bra and panties while looking for a new outfit. Then noticing that Dick was trying not to look at her (but maybe was a bit excited ) and then getting on top of him and basically taking charge and presumably having sex with him. Not that he was fighting her off and he seemed into it but the vibe of that scene felt off and not very natural. The awkwardness was ramped up more when Batman tracks them down afterwards and sees what's happening. It didn't bother me but I'm not sure what purpose it really served to the story. Aside from her being an attractive woman I don't really buy that he would have went for her either given his past with both her and The Joker.

There were some dirty jokes on the series too (particularly the one with Harley asking The Joker if he wants to rev his Harley) but I don't know. Here it did feel a bit like it was being done just to create some controversy or something amongst fans. I like Timm but I'm not sure what his fixation seems to be on sexualizing the characters more lately and not just hinting but pretty much coming right out with it straight of actually showing the characters in the act.

Welp, UPS is still delaying my shipment to get into Katy despite FedEx and USPS being able to deliver for days now. So I'm pretty sure my Batman & Quinn steelbook is going to be mangled up six ways to sunshine when I get it. *sigh*. If anybody's Target still has one...let me know, might have to purchase an extra as insurance. Or I guess I can just purchase the steelbook from Ebay or something and wait on the 4k to come down in a year or so, lol.

I haven't returned my extra copy yet. I'll wait another week or so to make sure that you get yours. If not you can have my extra for cost + tax + postage.

You're describing the odd sex scene here, but that statement could cover so many other scenes in Batman and Harley Quinn, with varying degrees of "bother".

Timm had always sexualized his characters, in contrast to his drawing style, it's just that the tv series didn't allow him to do it overtly. The relationship between Nightwing, Barbara, and Batman in Batman Beyond is beyond messed up, for instance. The Modern Masters book featuring him from Twomorrows is a good read on him.

Dick banging Harley didnt bother me at all. The Boy Wonder has always been the cocksmith of DC.

I can see the purist not enjoying the movie, but I found it to be a ton of fun.

Harley pretty much banged Dick, and it was immediately after ...

Spoiler:
she drugged him and restrained him to a bed

... so, eh, not feeling that as a waiver for the scene.

I'm all for alternate, evolving takes on the character(s), and I wish I had found as much fun in it as you did.

I appreciate that Decker and will let you know by the end of the week. I'm not sure what UPS is doing with packages at this point. I'm not even in the "affected" zip codes anymore and they are still holding it. Meanwhile, everything else is flowing fairly normally. Just frustrating.

Appreciate it Mike, I'll work with Decker since he already has it in hand and wouldn't want you to have to go to the effort.

Incidentally, I went into a Target by my work here yesterday and I couldn't even find the standard blu-ray. I ended up getting a bag of cashews and stress eating that afternoon. Not because of the blu-ray, because of our commuting trip to and fro the house has become roughly a triple the effort ordeal. What was taking 30 minutes, is now taking close to 2 hours. Madness I tell ya.

Edit: Well, UPS is finally showing movement again, looks like my custom frame is out for delivery today (I'm framing the Escape from New York print that came with the Shout Factory steelbook) and it might just have the Target package also with it (or it might be a day behind). We shall see, but it is certainly a positive...now I get to worry about the shape both of those will be in.

That aspect of it didn't really bother me because he knew what was going on and I'm pretty sure he wanted her as she was undressed but didn't make the move first because he couldn't. He even admits that it might be nice so it's not like he didn't want it to happen I think he just didn't expect it. I didn't view it as she raped him or anything. Pretty sure he just gave in to temptation.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

There must be a strong editorial mandate from DC to separate Harley from the Joker in all mediums they control. This was basically a Harley solo movie with Batman and Nightwing as guests, and the Joker isn't involved beyond one line from Harley.

I don't know about that. Suicide Squad was largely about Harley's relationship with The Joker.

I haven't seen the movie, but from your description, I'm sure if the gender roles were reversed you'd come to the same conclusion...
