Ran across this neat short today. Please don't crucify me if it has already been posted somewhere.

I've only downloaded 1 digitalcopy. It was a musical. Without the chapter stops it's worthless. Any concerts, nusic or musicals need the chapter stops, if not it's basically videotape

Given that digital media players let you skip to different times at a touch of a finger, it's not that big of a deal.

Honestly, I don't see why it's so hard for people to see where digital copies have a use. Hell, I don't use them myself but I know why they're useful.

Digital copies are good for when you're at the gym on a treadmill or a bike or something. This leads me to the conclusion that everyone who doesn't like digital copies is a lard ass.

1,000%.

Have you seen David Lynch's last movie? It's unwatchable on any screen larger than three inches!
Inland Empire? That movie is great! David Lynch is so important!

For some movies, yeah.

Actually, he's since backed off that stance and has admitted that chapter stops are useful.

This ain't Twitter; you've got more than 140 characters to use. Please spell out titles for those of us who have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

My favorite part is that both abbreviations are spelled wrong. Unless of course he means that crazy clown is finally gonna be in HD.

I assume TOM = TPM = The Phantom Menace. And IT = OT = Original Trilogy.

Basically, what I'm saying is that David Lynch is a nutjob. (And I used to be a fan.) His opinions on Digital Copies mean about as much to me as Charlie Sheen's opinions on sobriety.

I have no problem watching movies on my phone when I travel or during my daily commute. I am sick to death of this "How dare you watch movies on a 3-inch screen? The horror... The horror..." attitude.

Actually Lynch isn't arguing about picture quality he is talking about the cinematic experience and that movies should be seen in a cinema to take you to the world they create. From an entirely subjective standpoint I went to see Inland Empire more than once at the cinema because it was such a strong cinematic experience and it is extremely hard to replicate that at home.

I feel that watching at home is like going to a zoo, and watching in a theater is like going on safari. Still, it's a lot more convenient and cost efficient to go to the zoo which is why so few actually go on safari. If Lynch wants to retain an air of exclusivity, he should self-produce and never again allow one of his films to have a home video release. Hell, I'll be impressed if someone could go an entire year between theatrical and home video release dates. But you know what? Home video makes a ton of cash...and if I'm contributing, then it's none of Lynch's business whether I have to pause a movie to run to the bathroom or if I watch on my iPod during some down time on vacation.

Trying to think of something that isn't a threadcrap here...

I just can't get excited about another release of the SE's. I'd settle for SD resolution versions of the original versions on one Bluray at this point.

It was never announced in the first place. Amazon just picked a placeholder date and everyone ran with it.

As I said before: there are 4 Tuesdays in the month of September. Pick the last one and you have a 25% chance of being right and worse case scenario, you gotta email a bunch of people and tell them they're getting "Star Wars" on Blu-ray 1, 2 or 3 weeks earlier than they thought.

The official site confirms this:

http://starwars.com/themovies/saga/p...ray/index.html

September 16 is the first release date to actually come from LucasFilm.

pinata242 03-29-11 01:13 AM

re: Star Wars

Well, technically since a Tuesday release isn't guaranteed (obviously) picking the last Tuesday of September is just as arbitrary as the second Wednesday. So that 25% drops to 3.33%.

Anyone that doesn't know what retailers do without a hard date is just being silly. Or difficult as I am by calling out your defense of your defense of Amazon's placeholder. Which, in and of itself, is silly.

Name a DVD that wasn't released on a Tuesday.

One of the Shrek movies was on a Friday, pretty sure.

ETA: looks like the first Shrek movie was released on a Friday.

Yeah, I remember that too:
http://www.digitalmediafx.com/Shrek/...-released.html

However, the vast majority of videos are released on Tue, and to suggest that a release has an equally good chance of being released on any other day of the week is just absurd.

Let's say 99% of videos are released on Tue. That means that this release had a 24.75% chance of being released on the date Amazon originally listed.

 I love that I say I'm just being difficult in my post and you boys still take it to be serious.

It's just so funny when people make a perfectly valid and logical deduction about reality then that doesn't come to pass because of some anomaly, then still feel the need to defend themselves.

I keep expecting them to replace Jabba in all 3 (?) of the movies he's in. He looks different in Menace, New Hope and Jedi, and really, when these come out, if they've completely replaced the one in Jedi with a digital one, it would not surprise me.
