Star Wars

Actual news!! lol! From hdroom:

Today at Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando, Florida, George Lucas confirmed during a q/a session that all six Star Wars live-action feature films are coming to Blu-ray Disc in 2011. This confirmation comes after Star Wars ambassador Steve Sansweet offered a similar confirmation about Star Wars on Blu-ray earlier this year.

The box set, expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of next year, will include never-before-seen deleted scenes. One of those scenes is from Return of the Jedi and was decribed by Lucas, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill on-stage. I don't have the description yet but it sounds like it might take place towards the end of Jedi when Luke reveals to Leia who she really is.

My friend just texted me from there about this. I wonder if 2012 will see 3-D versions?

I'd love to see the original versions in 1080p. I've never seen them except on VHS.

I wonder how much longer 'til individual releases (2013?), 'cause I only want Empire.

Re: Star Wars Saga (all six films) CONFIRMED for "not too distant future"

You didn’t think there could be more blood to wring from the stone that is Star Wars did you?

Well, as part of the upcoming Star Wars Bu Ray box set will be unseen deleted scenes from the original movies.

The presentation at David Prowseless Celebration V details one of the scenes, introduced by Mark Hamill

* This is my original entrance into the film Return of the Jedi.
* Darth Vader walks down a hall, and into a chamber, meditating, reaching out to Luke telepathically.
* Luke is shown in robes, MAKING HIS Lightsaber.
* He turns it on, glowing green, nods, and turns it off.
* Wow. Very cool.
* It was a bit ominous, and was meant to make fans wonder until that Green lightsaber turned on, whether he’d join his father on the darkside or not.
And another report tells us

a sequence that depicts Luke Skywalker assembling his new, green-bladed lightsaber prior to infiltrating Jabba the Hutt’s palace. After completing the Jedi weapon, Luke stashes it in R2-D2′s dome. What makes the Jedi deleted clip so remarkable is that it made it all the way to postproduction before it was cut, so it is a rare example of a cut scene with completed visual effects and music.
Actor Mark Hamill came out to describe the scene, remarking that once again his original introduction in a Star Wars film was cut out (his Anchorhead introduction was, of course, cut from A New Hope). Luke’s intro is purposely played as ominous, with his face cowled in shadows and his intentions unclear.”I had the black cloak, the glove, and I thought, wow, this time around I get to be the antagonist. Little did I know I was predicting the path of the prequels,” said Hamill, noting the similarities to Luke in this scene and Anakin Skywalker’s appearance.
Bleeding Cool

Re: Star Wars Saga (all six films) CONFIRMED for "not too distant future"

I'm shocked:

The bad news, at least for Star Wars and film purists, is versions of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in the set will be the modified special edition versions (re: Greedo shoots first) and not the original versions. Lucas explains the reasoning behind this decision to the New York Times.

"You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally," he said. "It's a very, very expensive process to do it. So when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred really the upgraded version.... [it's] kind of an oxymoron because the quality of the original is not very good."

If there's one person I never want to hear bitch about cost, it's Lucas. Restoring those would be a drop in the bucket for him.

He's to busy crafting a sequel to Howard the Duck.

As I said before I'm in for whatever he's giving us. Really happy to see deleted scenes on this release.

Not that he couldn't afford it, but he's been a successful business man because he doesn't spend his money on anything. He clearly hates the original versions and it'll be a long time before they ever get proper treatment.

Did anyone really expect the unaltered versions would be released? Lucas would rather people just forget they ever existed (like the Holiday special).

Re: Star Wars Saga (all six films) CONFIRMED for "not too distant future"

This really shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody.

My main concern will be him trying to dump all six films in a boxset only, leaving those that want at least the original trilogy out in the dust.

I refuse to buy Episodes I & II.

What does he hate about them? The stuff he added doesn't fit clearly. If he changed them a bit after they were released and added more scenes in or whatever..maybe it'd be better but visually it detracts.

This will be another expensive box set. I'd say we'll be looking at another $150 list price, but I'll cough up the money for these. Hopefully someone will have them priced in the $75-$80 range.

Re: Star Wars Saga (all six films) CONFIRMED for "not too distant future"

Well, the deleted scenes could be interesting.

On the lightsaber building, I think that in the EU, it took place in the Shadows of the Empire book - not perfect, but a decent book.

Doubt I'd buy the blu-ray set though.

Re: Star Wars Saga (all six films) CONFIRMED for "not too distant future"

Nice...to know of a popular title I have no intention of picking up. Of course the originals wouldn't be there, and it's nice to have that confirmation. Pretty much a no-sale for sure now.

I haven't watched the 2004 versions since 2004, "Revisited" being the exception.

If they fix all the issues we'll see.....but I doubt it.

I remember reading that deleted scene in the Jedi novelization back in '83.

God, I'm old.
