Damn, what have I been saying? The physical media market is going to be kept afloat by groups like Shout! doing their own kind of Criterion Collection-type curating of movies and shows.
Hmm, wonder if they'll start doing spine#s? I'd love to see the reactions of people who have to buy My Little Pony to sit next to their John Carpenter films, just so they have all the spine#s...

I am beyond stoked for this news. I knew Herzog's catalog was being restored and that someone was going to release these at some point. I'm just glad to have official word. I hope that they are able to retain the commentary tracks from the Anchor Bay dvds.
For those that are interested, here's a link to the full story:

I think it's funny/annoying that the press release mentions that Shout! have acquired the rights to 16 films and then proceed to list 13 and then "as well as several other acclaimed titles." Why not just list all 16? As far as speculation on what the remaining three are, I would guess Even Dwarfs Started Small and My Best Fiend (the other two titles released by Anchor Bay), but I'm not sure of a third. Maybe The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner, The Dark Glow of the Mountains, or Echoes from a Somber Empire?

I also read that Scream/Shout will be putting out more than a dozen of Herzog's films on Blu-ray not just Nosferatu - like, the entire Herzog catalog or close to it.

Hell, I'd be more than happy if all they did was upgrade the contents of the Anchor Bay box set...

While I still would love to see a Herzog film on the criterion label( He's on a very short list of great filmmakers who never had a release on criterion), this is still great news.

I didn't see it mentioned in the last few pages of the thread (Cat People HD DVD owner here
), but the front page of this forum mentioned that Luc Besson's The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec has just been released on BD.
I had become interested in the comic a year or so ago when I heard about the film and how it hadn't been theatrically released in the U.S. I made a mental note of it and kind of figured I'd have to buy an import or something. Not that the trailer floored me or anything, but the buzz seemed pretty positive. But now that Shout has actually released it domestically, I think I'm going to have to suck it up and pay new-release prices for this one.

Just read Savant's review of this disc. It's been edited to get a PG rating.
A French disc release contains a longer bathtub scene with some casual nudity (Adèle makes major decisions in the bath). The sequence is missing from this PG-rated disc release. Shout! Factory has announced a Director's Cut to be released in October.

Witchboard
I watched NOTD a few years ago and recall being quite unimpressed with it.

Witchboard has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Hopefully this upgrade will actually have some special features, as opposed to the crappy old dvd I have.

Anyone know when The Beast Within will go up for preorder?

NOTD and Witchboard are both "stick with the DVD titles" for me.
I'd probably upgrade them if I could pick them up for under ten dollars each, but at Scream's prices I'll probably pass.

Well, it's peculiar how the subliminal mind works. I saw NOTD and rejoiced because I thought the Shout was releasing Night of the Living Dead, thereby freeing us from the misery that is Twilight Time's abysmal failure of that dark mess of a transfer.
Then, I said "Aw, shucks, it's NIGHT OF THE DEMONS!" Still, I'll be getting that one... gladly upgrading it, too.

And Witchboard 2 is coming out from Olive on October 15. That one never even made it to DVD, until now. Now we just need Witchboard: The Possession on BD.

Ooooh I've always wanted to see Witchboard 2 because of the cover art. I miss those days of going to the video store and wanting to rent something because of the cool cover art. I despised Witchboard though.

Night of the Demons, Witchboard AND Witchboard 2 are all coming to blu?

Witchboard 2 completely has me stunned. I thought I was the only person who remembered that one. Take my money please.

I just watched Night of the Demons LAST NIGHT. I'll definitly upgrade.
I'm gonna watch part 2 again to reassess whether or not to upgrade to Blu.
I also happened picked up NOTD 3 on dvd the other day. I'm assuming it'll be awful. Then again 1&2 are sort of awful too. Oh well.
