Never saw Video Dead. I genuinely have no idea how that happened considering all the VHS I rented back in the late 80s. I'll definitely have to check it out when it hits.

Next spring, go BALListic with Don Coscarelli's PHANTASM II. Coming to DVD & Blu-ray (on BD for the first time) as a Collector's Edition! Extras and street date to be announced at a further date.

If you're unfamiliar with the film, go ahead and check out this thread, where I gush like a teenage fanboy.
WTF?

Seems like an odd release. A DTV Horror flick? Shout! releasing Halloween 2 and 3 is one thing (both our going to sell well enough for them), but this? Must have been a "freebie". Is there even a fanbase for this film?

Not really if you knew how badly horror fans have been clamoring for a release.

Ahem:

I haven't seen The Video Dead in, like, twenty years, so I have no idea what I'd think of it now, but I loved the holy hell out of it when it was in regular rotation on USA. (Then again, I said the same thing about Flesh Eating Mothers, which wound up being unwatchable when I caught up with it again, but...)

It's pretty great to see movies that never found their way onto DVD scoring a Blu-ray release. I'm pretty excited about this one.

To ease your concerns, Adam, I'll have you know that I watched it for the first time ever on Netflix in HD earlier this year... and I loved it. Fans of '80s horror productions, especially those of the ultra low-budget variety, should still enjoy it for the ambition displayed, the decent gore effects, and the soundtrack that's better than I ever expected.

Phantasm II, but no Phantasm ?

I'll still pick it up, but the original, in all its cheesiness, is my favourite.

Hints for tomorrow's announcement:

- Not from the '80s
- Never been released on DVD

I've got a letterboxed non-HD copy on my DVR. Can't wait to finally see it.

Can say I'm a fan of that new art. The original always made me stop to look at the cover.

My head would explode if that ended up being the announcement.

Town That Dreaded Sundown is probably the most likely guess. I'm hoping for something else since I was underwhelmed with Town... last year when I finally saw it.

I'm really liking that art...

I agree, but I think Anchor Bay still holds the rights to the first one (along with 3 and 4). I know there was an interview done with Cliff that was posted recently, in which he stated that there would be a box set coming out next October, and some speculated that it would be the Phantasm films. I'd LOVE for that to be the case, but I'm not 100% sold it it happening.

Common Shout!, get the rights to 1, 3, & 4 and give us a nice boxset. Cause you know Anchor Bay isn't going to do anything with them.

Someone get a towel ready...

Today's announcements are, in fact, The Town that Dreaded Sundown and The Evictors. Both done by the same director.

I am very excited about The Town That Dreaded Sundown! I was hoping that would be the announcement. I love that movie and it looks so great in hd.

I have never heard of The Evictors though.

Such awesome news, especially about The Evictors, which is very underrated. Easily the best MGM announcement yet. Hoping for The Initiation of Sarah and Blood and Lace soon.

The same director of the film that inspired my favorite MST3K of all-time, Boggy Creek 2. I'm a fan of The Town That Dreaded Sundown, though, so I like this announcement.
