If you look at Shout titles on amazon almost all of them have a disclaimer that the item has a high return rate from customers. I would assume it is because of scratched discs. Some Criterions have the same warning. You would think they would look into the replication plant one of these days.

Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

Shout Factory has announced their July release schedule

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=34431
Dark Angel 4k- July 9th
UHF 4k- July 2nd
The Phantoms 4k- July 16th
Red Sonja- July 16th

I'm not a fan of these double dips on their back catalog on 4k but I'd consider buying UHF again if it improves the transfer that has always had an ugly orange tint to it. It's pretty much one of my favorite movies of all time.

I watched the DVD of UHF several times and gladly upgraded to the Blu which I don't think I've watched even once.

4K upgrades have got to have something really amazing for me to buy them at this point (like the blu of Godzilla 2014 being too dark, I gladly got the improved 4K).

UHF and The Boy & the Heron are both day one titles for me. One of my all time favorite movies plus the first Ghibli film in 4K!

I hope it sells well enough for Ghibli to consider some of their back catalog for 4k. I watched Howl's Moving Castle on blu yesterday and thought they should release on 4k.

Have any of the Ghibli movies been released in 4K in Japan? Shout Factory's contract may not allow them to release 4Ks before they are released in Japan.

GKIDS released Earwig on Blu-ray something like 8 months before it hit BD in Japan, so who knows? (Technically, GKIDS is releasing this too, with Shout distributing their titles.)

As far as I know, The Boy and the Heron is the first UHD Ghibli release worldwide.

No chance the Studio Ghibli movies hit 4K here before Japan. No chance. Studio Ghibli is aware fans want them in 4K.

I watched Fear City on Tubi a couple of years ago. Other than some moderate sexual situations and Melanie Griffith nudity, it's a pretty standard 80s cop thriller. Definitely not worth the $30 premium price.

Yeah, most of those old 80s cop b-movies aren't terribly interesting. About the only thing they have going for them is nostalgia from the people who stayed up late at night to watch them on premium cable to see Melanie Griffith or Rae Dawn Chong topless.

The Charles Bronson movie The Evil that Men Do, which is a site exclusive, is down to 17 copies left and going OOP.

Still $30 and way overpriced. I’d love to add it to my Bronson collection, but I’m still going to pass.

Early specs on Delta Force show 0 extras.

Got to hang on to my Scorpion and Arrow UK BDs.

Definitely worth keeping your older versions. Odd they they don’t even show ‘extras in progress’ on that one. The Scorpion/Ronin Blu-ray had an hour of interviews (including Robert Forster), most culled from the sessions done for Mark Hartley’s ELECTRIC BOOGALOO documentary plus a separate interview with the writer. You’d think Shout would have no problem licensing those. Kinda pricey if it’s barebones, especially as it’s a movie that didn’t really need a 4K release. The Ronin Blu is excellent, and it’s still pretty cheap on the secondary market. Not to mention that even the MGM version is still widely available on its own and in various Norris combo packs. Kind of a pooped-out title at this point.

Just noticed Shout is showing a Jackie Chan marathon on their YouTube channel, on repeat, for those who might be so inclined. Presumably it’s on their Tokushoutsu channel as well? Can’t tell if it’s like their MST3K forever-athon, so it might have an expiry date. The bit I caught was dubbed though, so I’m not sure if they’re all like that. It includes:

Battle Creek Brawl
City Hunter
Crime Story
Dragon Fist
Shaolin Wooden Men
Snake & Crane Arts Of Shaolin
The Killer Meteors
The Protector
To Kill With Intrigue
Winners And Sinners

They have a 24/7 Sonny Chiba channel too.

As I write this, anyway, their most watched live channel is streaming Reboot non-stop, Jackie Chan is #2, and Godzilla & Friends (currently streaming War of the Gargantuas) is a close third.

GRUV is starting to carry Shout titles, starting with at least part of their October slate, so that could be promising as far as sales go.

Gruv is becoming one of my favorites for newer stuff. I even go through their eBay store so I can watchlist stuff and compare sellers easier.

Glad to see them branching out to more labels.

And that should say August slate, since Shout hasn’t even announced their September titles, let alone October. Not sure what was going on in my head there.

I think we might see announcements on Monday!

I will pick up The Strangers, Village Of The Damned and Doomsday. I loves me some Doomsday and even though I would have prefered the Unrated on UHD at least the BD has been remastered.

I'll mention Shout did a fine job with Madonna's Who's That Girl? BD. No real special features other than a perfunctory academic commentary but A/V quality is better than I expected.
