it’s great if you want to see a character study of a man who falls deeper and deeper into conspiratorial thinking, isolating himself from his more level headed family, friends, and colleagues, all in the pursuit of what is ultimately disinformation sprinkled with little bits of facts to keep himself from admitting that he may be wrong.

I still think it’s a phenomenal film, though. It holds up being timelessly compelling and rewatchable, but its place in a more modern context is one that I think will continue to get re-contextualized with each passing decade.

The man in question being Oliver Stone himself, of course.

Forced Vengeance. Yes!!!

And some cool 70s Bronson movies. I haven't seen Telefon in many years, but it was a fun 70s cold war thriller.

I love Jennifer 8 and have never picked any of the releases up since VHS for some reason so I will get the BD. Never even heard of Funeral Home but it seems interesting so maybe.

Shout! & Kino are really in a battle over Bronson movies and we’re the winners.

Interesting to see FUNERAL HOME getting a full blown special edition, especially for a Canadian film! It's no classic – but considering this treatment, maybe it is! – and actually kind of slow until the ending. I think it's only been available prior to this in a couple of Mill Creek multipack horror film sets (and some cheapo PD discs). I'm curious to see what supplements they come up with; the director is still around (but seemingly retired), and actress Lesley Donaldson did an interview and really good commentary for Synapse's release of CURTAINS, and an interview for Shout's edition of DEADLY EYES, so I'd imagine she was game for this one as well. Still, at that price . . .

While I want Forced Vengeance, I don't think I want it bad enough to fork over $28 with no special features. I'm going to wait until Shout has some kind of sale. Same with the Bronson movies. That's why I passed on The Evil that Men Do.

Telefon is a title I will pick up when it goes on sale. I will have to read up on Forced Vengeance, but it also sounds like a title worth considering when it goes on sale.

Shout never listed the extras for the Ti Lung / David Chiang Collection. It is shipping now.

Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

Thanks for that. Seems like a decent mix of extras on some titles outside of the commentaries. I haven’t listened to previous commentaries by either of those guys (though I do have some), so I don’t know what I’m in for, although James Mudge’s reviews have always been fairly reliable and well-informed, plus he’s been at it for a while. I never liked most of the Celestial trailers, which were newly made to promote their dvd releases 20 years ago, but obviously in some cases the originals are lost to the ages. I do wish this wasn’t an exclusive, as it probably won’t last until a sale however many months or years from now, and it probably would’ve sold well as a wide-release due to a pretty strong mix of films contained within. Guess I gotta keep an eye on that stock counter on the product page.

Probably worth noting Shout’s martial arts sale, in case anyone missed it in the Deals forum.

ALSO worth noting that the Shaw Brothers collections Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 are considerably cheaper at Amazon right now, almost half price at $85.99 and $90.99 versus Shout’s sale price of $109 each.

Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

Didn’t see this posted above, so Shout must’ve recently slipped STREET GIRLS (1975) into their upcoming releases as a website exclusive (1600 copies). It’s notable as the feature writing debut of Barry Levinson (!), the feature directing debut of Michael Miller (who kinda peaked with either JACKSON COUNTY JAIL or Chuck Norris’s SILENT RAGE, depending on your taste) before a career in tv. Interviewee Katherine Wilson was in a few softcore (possibly hardcore?) films back then, but seems to have parlayed her small role in ANIMAL HOUSE into a documentary called ANIMAL HOUSE OF BLUES that exists in multiple versions.

  • NEW HD Master Presented In 1.85:1 And 1.66:1 Aspect Ratios
  • NEW Audio Commentary With Adult Film Historian Peter Alilunas
  • NEW Interview With Actor/Filmmaker Katherine Wilson
  • Image Gallery
  • Trailer
