great review AT. But, is the Blu-ray remastered or same as 2016 version? I may have glossed over that part…

Thanks! And the BD is based on the same remaster as the UHD disc.

Nice. Easy decision and since I can’t even find my 2016 SE, knowing this is an upgrade and future proof is a more brainer.

Just wanted to say thanks for this. I'd never seen the movie and I blind bought this on the strength of your review. I was not disappointed! Return of the Living Dead is the rare movie that is just so much fun from beginning to end and the release is stacked!

Surprised Ouija is getting a Scream Factory release. Not that great of a movie. The prequel is actually decent though.

Just Dawn of the Dead (which I've only ever owned on DVD and HD DVD), and I wouldn't rule out the Jackie Chan collection. I would've been interested in Freaky if it had been day/date, but I already have it on BD and don't feel compelled to upgrade (even though I love the movie; same story with the Happy Death Day movies). And I have Studiocanal's UHD release of They Live.

Right Stuf lists the movies in the Jackie Chan collection as: The Killer Meteors, Shaolin Wooden Men, To Kill with Intrigue, Snake & Crane Arts of Shaolin, Dragon Fist, Battle Creek Brawl, and Dragon Lord.

I’m not a huge fan of those early Jackie Chan movies. I’m not even really a fan of the original Drunken Masters. I just think those early period movies are super corny. I much prefer his modern day movies. So I’ll probably pass on that set.

I’ll probably get DotD, They Live and maybe Freaky if new extras and new scan.

Astonishingly, Scream Factory says that Dawn of the Dead is getting a new 4K scan from the OCN. It was my understanding that it was finished as a digital intermediate, so that's very surprising, if true.

As reported at Blu-ray.com, the only thing new for any of them is the 4K scan for the unrated cut of DotD. They Live is just the already released disc in a steelbook. Actually, Freaky does have the trailer which was not on the previous BD.

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

I just received Road Games from Amazon and it included the slipcover. It surprised me since SF released it 3 years ago, but if you want the slip Amazon still seems to have it.

Also this was pointed out to me and I don't know if it's been discussed somewhere else in this thread, but every movie that Shout Factory releases, not matter how long or short it is, is split up across 12 chapters. Seems kind of weird to me, maybe whomever is in charge of authoring the discs is superstitious about the number 13. But ever since it was mentioned to me I always end up checking the scene index on the menu just to see.

Honestly, I'm kind of Evil Deaded out. I still own multiple copies of Evil Dead (1979), Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness on DVD and blu-ray, and don't think I'll ever feel the need to rebuy these.
Do you own any of the seasons of Ash vs. Evil Dead?

that’s strange the trailer is not included on previous. It’s even included in Vudu extras.

An early 80s Charles Bronson movie that seems mostly forgotten

This is a Shout Exclusive and according to them it's extremely limited at 1,500 units. So no waiting for discounts or for it to hit Amazon.

I'm surprised Kino didn't put that out.

It's had a German release for while.

Another new Shout limited exclusive is Abel Ferrara's 'R Xmas - https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=7972

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

The Evil that Men Do can be a very hard watch, rather uncomfortable at times. The actor who plays the guy who tortures dissidents/journalists, and lectures other repressive regimes on how to keep civilians in-line really makes you believe that he is an evil little sonavagun. The torture scene in the beginning where Bronson's friend is one among many who will be, or is brought out of a locked room to be tortured in front of an audience of rulers who dispassionately watch a guy get tortured to death while stripped naked with electrodes attached to sensitive parts of his body is something that sticks around in your head.

I know critics did not seem to be impressed by this movie, but if you are a Bronson fan than you probably will want to watch it at least once if you are working your way through all the films Bronson starred in.

30 bucks is pretty steep for fims that don't even have a new scan. I love Bronson but I'm going to wait for reviews on the this one. Seems like a cheap cash grab.

I've picked up a few of these web-only Shout discs over the years – mostly AIP titles – and they do feel a bit cash-grabby at times. Some have new scans, and if you're lucky they might port over an old commentary or interview, but often there's only a trailer, if that. They'll sometimes last long enough to have a sale price, but it's usually only a two or three dollars cheaper, so still questionable for what you get. I know these boutiques do their research to decide whether titles will sell in their main lines or not, but surely they likewise know that limiting titles like these to 1500 copies means they'll hook a good chunk of the collector crowd at full price. This one's not a title I'd own, but I agree that it seems like something Kino would offer for a much lower price, and probably with additional extras. If I'm not mistaken, I think a couple of the OOP Shout web exclusives did make their way to Kino eventually (?), so that may be worth considering.

I’m surprised they didn’t get Bronson writer and historian Paul Talbot to do a commentary on The Evil that Men Do. He’s done quite a few Bronson commentaries. The alternate cuts only have so much replay value for bonus material.

By the way, it’s streaming for free on Freevee.

It looks like Shout is putting out Zu: Warriors From the Magic Mountain and Iron Monkey early next year.
