I'm placing my order for The Ghost and The Darkness tomorrow. Amazon has the cheapest price and even though there's no extras the remastered picture and sound are enough to get me excited about it.

If Amazon has the better price go there
Shout Factory is not the best when it comes to returns and you have to ask for a RMA number and they want me to send a photo of the item too that I want to get a refund for

Lol. I recently picked up the Species box set by 88 Films, which I believe was a re-release of this set, and of course you had the blu of the OG film, then Shout released Species 2 and the DTV movies on blu which went OOP.
Honestly, having just watched the 2 DTV films on blu again (which were very fun to watch), I am content to own the franchise on blu and do not want to drop another $30-40 on the 4K of Species (granted, those who waited to buy Species can now get it in the best possible format available and with a poster to boot, but my spend on the Species franchise is much too fresh to buy it again).
It is a guilty pleasure film and one of the earlier films that my Brother In Law worked on as a special effects artist back in the day.
So to add up the number of releases of this film franchise, the first film has approached its 4th release (standalone blu ray release, then part of Franchise box set that went OOP, and was recently re-released, and now the 4K), while the sequels had 1 release cycle from Shout, and 2 release cycles from 88 films. I bet the sequels will eventually also get a proper official North America release (maybe even in 4K).

So, the Species box set is pretty good? I have the first, but wasn’t really interested in rest. The sequels just more of same but different central character? I mean if there do bad there fun, that makes it worth it. Plus, there are nice extras. And not expensive. I’m thinking about getting…

Dex, 100% percent thrilled that I have a quality region free player (and I paid a bit extra for wifi, and it connected to my network instantly). Oldboy, I have been known to enjoy some really bad DTV films, so my opinion might be suspect, lol!!
You will find that fairly well known sites like Den Of Geek feel that the Species Franchise never lived up to its potential, but at least the box set is solid and comes with extras like a fold out mini poster, a small but color booklet with pics and info on the Species film(s?), and several postcard sized art cards.
The movies do look good in blu, and many folks like myself have seen the DTV sequels on networks many years back like the Syfy channel, where most/all the nudity was blurred out, so for me it had been a very long time since I have seen the films, especially uncut and uncensored.
Again, I would do some research and check out some sites that revisit films like the Species films so you can read up on what people say about the franchise.
The first film is great and a big fan favorite, and since it is coming out in 4K, you may want to just go the 4K route and buy the first film from Shout and just catch the sequels when you can on streaming/basic cable/premium cable channels whenever you get the chance.

Be careful with connecting your region free player to the internet -- they can sometimes push a firmware update through that will switch over the region free capability and lock it to your specific region factory pre-set. I've never connected my region free player to the net -- it's strictly for watching non region friendly titles on BD/DVD only.

Just ordered this from Shout Factory:
https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=7832
It's got a new 2K remaster, which no other release has ever had. I have the UK import and that was the best we had over the previously released U.S. version that also used a dated master.
It's also limited to 1500 copies from SF.

Child's Play Bundle on the way.
Chucky fans, a pretty epic box set is coming your way from Scream Factory in August. Child's Play 1,2, and 3 will see 4K releases that month, both individually and in bundle deals. The films will come in a three-disc set for the original, and two-disc sets for parts 2 and 3. No word yet on the special features, but since it is Scream Factory you can bet that there will be plenty. The biggest bundle includes posters of the original release artwork, new artwork from Devon Whitehead for parts 2 and 3 in both poster and slipcover form, pins, postcards, and the coolest thing: an exclusive charred Chucky figure from NECA. That is limited to only 4000 pieces.

It’s cool, but I’d rather get a full set from Scream Factory (even if it was Blu-ray). I may order just the charred Chucky NECA figure though.

I might just upgrade the Child’s Play films gradually when they drop in price a bit and not get the box set. I really don’t like box sets of franchises that are incomplete. Plus I own the Blu-ray set of the seven films that Universal released and the Scream Factory edition of the first film so it’s not like I’m in a huge rush to buy the films again.

Am I the only one that thinks it's strange that they used the original artwork for the sequels and made the newer artwork the exclusive when the first film has the newer artwork? Plus they aren't making a slip of the original artwork for the first film.

Yea, that's definitely weird. Could it have something to do with the different licensing, since the first is MGM and the other two are Universal?

They misspelled "Configuration" on the new SF BD (on the spine label). It says "The Ninth Coinfiguration." nyuck, nyuck.

Also for the Child’s Play set that slip box is pretty plain Jane in comparison to their Halloween and Friday the 13th sets. Just a black box with Chucky written in white.

According to the site listing, Evil Dead (2013) will have both cuts of the film and be in 4K, unlike their release of Lifeforce (1985).

It also lists Evil Dead will be UHD only and no bluray will be included.
