It seems like some of the Scream stuff goes out of print and then comes back in Steelbook form later on.

What these titles all have in common is that they are part of the old MGM/Fox distribution deal. I bet these titles werecwere up for renewal and they couldn't be renewed because Warner Bros will be taking over MGM titles for distribution.

My advice is to anybody who has been on the fence about buying MGM/Fox titles that are available from Shout Factory, buy them now before it gets announced those titles are out of print.

Which titles specifically?

Is it anything that was released as an MGM DVD? The Howling? Wild at Heart? Kalifornia?

I have noticed that a lot of the OOPs have been MGM titles like Leviathan, Carrie, TCM 2, Mad Max, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, etc. Probably safe to assume that the life on anything MGM is short? Robocop 2 and 3?

I think I have most of the ones I need outside of Robocop 2, Wild at Heart and Kalifornia. Need to pick up Robo 2 and Wild at Heart. I'm iffy on Kalifornia; I have the old Polygram DVD and haven't watched it in ages, so I don't know if it's worthy of an upgrade even though I liked the movie.

Isn't MGM's new deal with WB still just a distribution deal? In other words, WB doesn't control the assets, they just put out whatever MGM tells them to put out? I'm not sure why anything would change on MGM's part unless internally they've made the choice to a deemphasize physical media.

I think I have 5 of those 6 going out of print.

I don't have Mad Max. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the 1st movie. It's super low budget and feels very dated. Not my favorite Gibson movie. I actually already have it on the Mad Max trilogy steelbook set that WB released several years ago. So I don't really need it.

I'm just wonder why are all MGM movies licensed out to Shout and other boutique labels going out of print?

Because it's a limited time license.

Kino announced over on the Blu-ray forums that they have a new deal with MGM for 30 titles. MGM isn't going anywhere.

The thing with MGM is that most of their existing transfers...aren't that good. They are perfectly content licensing out the same shoddy masters over and over. It's better than Disney for sure, releasing nothing at all.

Kino just announced Mad Max as a 4K combo release, presumably with new extras.

Nice art. That key art on the cover is my favorite key art for Mad Max. And the (I assume) new art on the slipcover is pretty rad, too.

I believe that slip art comes from the original poster for Warner's international release.

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

So the original Creepshow was recently on sale at Shout Factory for Halloween at $19.99, but they quickly sold out and currently don't have any in stock.

Amazon also had it, but their price was always high in the $30 range. They also were out of stock.

But, I got a notification they are getting more on November 12th. It's $30.88. Still high, but I have a feeling this will not likely go on sale or will be out of print soon, so I sucked it up and placed an order. Not an ideal price, but Scream Factory BDs rarely drop in price and Creepshow has been stubbornly high for 2 years. I used some rewards points with my credit card to make it $25 and change.

If the price is still too rich for you, that's fine, but keep in mind it's looking like the stock for this is running low if you don't have it yet.

Target is doing another B2G1 sale this weekend. You should look at that... maybe it'll be cheaper (if you have other things you want).

Way to take the wind out of his sails for finding a good deal.

Shout! is putting out Sputnik (the Russian sci-go creature feature) with only a theatrical trailer as extra? How could that be possible? I would be very disappointed.

Shout has a home distribution deal with IFC Films. Those releases aren’t like their Collector’s Editions and rarely have many extras.

That blows. Maybe they’ll be a nice UK edition. Doubt Russia has a major label...

Sputnik is a Russian production, so there probably isn't much, if any, "bonus" material available for it. Scream Factory would have to make any documentaries and other value added material from scratch. And if they wanted to include the cast and crew, they'd have to either travel to Russia, or bring them over here, and it becomes an expensive endeavor for a pretty niche film.

I wasn’t expecting the world, but with such an amazingly good movie, something would have been nice. But damn fucking great movie. So I’ll get the blu just for it. If a UK edition rears it’s lovely head I would jump.
