Not-so-bold prediction: The MoC Metropolis will blow the Kino out of the water.
EDIT: According to IMDB, 'Die Reise nach Metropolis' is 52 minutes.

I'd say the cover alone already beats Kino. Kino releases some decent discs but typically they have not been up to par with Eureka or Criterion. I'd love for them to prove me wrong. Their Battleship Potemkin BD release looks to be one of their best efforts although I don't actually own it. I just hope the MoC BD is not region coded though I'm sure it will be.

I would guess that since Kino has a high profile release planned for the USA that they will insist upon region coding.

I could very well be wrong, as I'm just basing my statement on every single previous Kino/MoC comparison. We can be reasonably sure, however, that the Kino won't have a fat booklet or German-language intertitles, and will just recycle the pre-existing Patalas commentary.

There's probably a better thread to ask this, but are there any good region-free Blu-ray players? And are they easy to update since Blu-rays require new software updates?

Oh, I'm definitely getting one. It's just a question of whether I want to buy a cheapish one now, or wait and ask for a pricey model for Christmas.

With this mod: http://www.bluraychip.dk/product.php?id_product=10 to the Oppo BD-83, connected to a Panasonic 1080p projector - I have an older PT-AE 2000 model - you'll have a setup that will accept anything you can throw at it. Blu Ray any region, DVD any region, PAL or NTSC, anything at all. The only annoyance is a need to turn the Oppo off to change Blu Ray regions with the remote.
