I wouldn't even call it a possibility. Someone made a totally irrelevant guess and everyone started treating it as fact.

Fire Walk with Me or possibly Blue Velvet aren't irrelevant guesses, they are the only possible guesses. Either the image refers to a David Lynch film or it refers to absolutely nothing at all.

Blue Velvet is one of my personal top 20 movies, and I'd be thrilled to no end to see a Criterion Blu-ray released. However, what it has to do with a picture of doughnuts, I (despite a couple dozen viewings of the film) will probably never know. I'm having a hard enough time making a tenuous connection between that picture and Twin Peaks. If that picture can mean Blue Velvet, it just as well could mean The Elephant Man.

A Complete Twin Peaks set would be unreal, but I'm skeptical over whether Criterion a) would just release FWWM, or b) could get their hands on the property anyway. Fun fantasy, that's for sure.

It's a question of rights issues. Blue Velvet, being an MGM property, is more likely to receive a Criterion release than The Elephant Man, which if anything would be a Lionsgate port of the Studio Canal release.

Despite the screenshot, I don't think the donuts were a prominent recurring motif, at least not as much as a number of other things from Twin Peaks. I find all this speculation to be a pretty significant stretch.

Nevertheless, I'll be more than happy to eat crow as I dig Lynch quite a bit and would love to see some of his material released by Criterion.

I just got my MK2 FWWM blu-ray from France this week, so pretty much a guarantee that Criterion announces it today.

No. A picture of doughnuts having anything to do with the movie Blue Velvet is not a "rights issue".

If Criterion is planning on releasing any David Lynch film, it would be either Blue Velvet (MGM), Wild at Heart (ditto), or Fire Walk With Me (based upon the image). So, we can surmise that the photo refers to, as I noted earlier, either one of these three films or nothing at all. I was responding to this comment, and providing an explanation as to how the latter would not be a possibility:

I would also love FWWM on Blu-ray. I think it's a truly inspired film, probably the creepiest Lynch has ever made. It's certainly a cut above the Palme D'Or winning Wild At Heart.

Or, we could surmise that it refers to something that actually has a lick to do with a table full of doughnuts.

I'll say this, though, Criterion makes a damn fine pie. Heck, this must be where pies die and go to heaven.

And though it's not a Blu-ray release, they'll also be releasing an Eclipse set of five silent Naruse films.
