Yep, the Blu-ray was released in November of last year, but there was enough demand to also release a DVD version this year.

If you click on the 'recent credits' box on the right hand side, you'll see that this company has restored A Canterbury Tale, The Jungle Book and The Scarlet Pimpernel for Criterion.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Finished it. I think I'll have to agree with certain reviewers in some respects, but I'll say that I appreciated this film because it was thought provoking. Was it controversial? I believe so, yes, but not because of the 'grotesque' scenes that have stirred up the mainstream controversy around it. I think the controversy of this film really lies more within the tone, and the interpretations of what this film actually means. I think we could probably sit here all day, and anyone who has seen Antichrist can try and give their own opinions about what 'it all means' until the foxes come home, but none of us are probably right. The Director himself admitted that much of this was pulled from his dreams, and he wrote this film in a very anxiety filled, and depressed state. Although nothing is probably TRULY defineable, at least not 100%, I admire the fact that it causes so much thought to occur after the film has been seen.

All I can say is that it is indeed NOT a film for everyone... but if you're looking for someting 'different', this film is it. You might like it, or you might hate it, but you've probably never seen anything like it before.

I'll have to gel some more thoughts in the next day or two and see how I feel then.

Great news on The Scarlet Pimpernel! Last time I watched this (about 15 years ago) I was surprised how how accessible and vigorous an adventure movie it was.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's basically a period costume superhero movie, with may of the same now familiar beats. Great fun.

That BBS set looks amazing, but I'll wait till I can get it in the next Criterion B&N sale (it's not eligible this go-around).

As much as I'm trying to resist upgrading my entire DVD library, I think those would all be must-buys for me - especially if there are any added supplements.

Depends, since it's never the same time any given week. Usually late-afternoon on the east coast, though.

Amarcord
The Double Life of Véronique
Fish Tank
Still Walking
Sweet Smell of Success
Senso

While I can't say I'm too excited about any of those particular titles, it sure is nice to see six Blu-rays on the docket for a single month. Criterion is kicking so much ass on BD!

Oh dear. Looks like I'll be picking these up;
Still Walking
Fish Tank
Sweet Smell of Success
Amarcord

Uncertain on Senso and The Double Life of Véronique.

I'm going to be in serious trouble next Criterion sale.

gryffinmaster 11-15-10 02:42 PM

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

It'll depend on the extras, but I'm probably going to stick with my Artificial Eye Blu-rays of The Double Life of Veronique and Fish Tank. Was hoping Criterion might pair Andrea Arnold's Red Road with Fish Tank, too. Oh well.

Extremely stoked about Sweet Smell of Success, though.

tylergfoster 11-15-10 02:48 PM

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Sweet Smell of Success looks like it will be up my alley, and I will consider Fish Tank and The Double Life of Veronique.

Still, if there aren't going to be new extras, Criterion should just start a whole separate schedule of Blu-Ray upgrades; I was hoping for an official Fear and Loathing announcement or Tenenbaums. But I'd upgrade all of my Criterions to Blu if they offered them.

Will definitely be getting Kore-eda's Still Walking.

Hoping Criterion would work to get this director's past works into their releases as well like Maborshi, After Life & Nobody Knows.

Wow, Senso is SPECTACULAR news! Rumored for a long while, I was starting to give up hope. I'm glad I didn't buy the UK Veronique Blu-ray. Amarcord and Sweet Smell are welcome additions as well.

Even though I have not once felt compelled to re-watch my DVD of Nobody Knows in the years I've owned it thanks to how crushingly sad it is, I would buy a Criterion Blu-Ray, just because it's so good.

I made all those up just to try to prove a point, but it's pretty sweet that I was actually right about one of them. Guess I'll have to get rid of my Veronique and Fish Tank imports now :D
