Have they confirmed that they have the Carlos replacement discs available?

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Question: If they're using the most current G form for the G BD....do they have access to more than just Gojira? Cuz...if they got more showa....that'd be badass. It'd personally be be very cool if the Heisei was w/ CC. But...that might not be up their line in terms of their personal taste. Just seemed weird for them to use the most current G w/ this being the 1st G.

So I sent an email regarding the THREE COLORS TRILOGY issues, but never got a response with information about a replacement program or credit. Is there a page with details on this replacement program, or is this a situation where I need to wait for a direct response? Never had any trouble with any of my Criterion discs before this, so its uncharted waters in my case...

I'm not aware of a page about this. I received a direct email about it.

Do they have access to more Godzilla films?

Not likely. Toho is an absolute bitch about licensing their films. Godzilla vs. Megalon has been almost ready to release for over a month, but is being held up because Toho thinks Media Blasters may have included too many stills in the extras section.

I hate when Criterion edits down the videos and don't show everything that is taken.

I seriously doubt Criterion would even consider releasing any of the other Godzilla films.

re: White. I just received an email from Jon that was pretty much the exact copy of what's been floating around. I'm not sure one needs to email them beforehand considering we need to include our address and e-mail with the disc we're sending.

I predict they won't announce Mann's Thief, and I will weep because of it.

I would, however, change my tune if a Blu upgrade of Le Samourai were announced.

That's a plausible-looking prediction.

Being the agitator here, I suppose I'd better post my own*:

Alambrista!
The Gold Rush
Hua Yeung Nin Wa
Juzo Itami box
Pasqualino Settebellezze
Y Tu Mama También

* this is about half educated guesses and half happy, childlike dreams

I haven't seen any hints or rumors about Ugetsu, but they just have to put a Mizoguchi film on Blu-ray sooner or later.

fuck...getting it, which we already know we will...at some goddamn point, is good...but I'll fucking shit myself if we got great features out of that one. Something to satisfy the anxiety that we've had for that title.

Not that I'm wanting to see you weep, but since Le Samouraï is OOP (due to the whole Studio Canal licensing agreement with Lionsgate), that will be very unlikely...

goddamn that Studio Canal situation. Kagemusha...lost to SC. Never given the proper CC treatment.

And since the image assumed to be from Thief turned out to be taken from a Hollis Frampton film that will be part of a previously-confirmed box set, his tears will be doubled.

I'm thinking you are referring to Ran, which was briefly announced by Criterion before going to Studio Canal. Kagemusha received a Criterion Blu-ray release, and as far as I know, it's still very much in print.

They also lost Contempt and despite a terrific La Haine HD transfer that has been released in the UK, Criterion doesn't seem motivated to release it.

Fuck...you're right. Right as I'm staring at the BD case right now...RAN. I meant Ran.

I don't stay on top of the stuff as closely as some do, but Le Samourai is definitely not OOP. There has been speculation that it might go OOP at some point, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Criterion's licensing deal is not with Studio Canal.
