i don't know. i don't know how some color changes or whatever could affect so drastically. and plus, i never saw anyway in any incarnation so all new to me. i just want to see the movies truthfully and this seems like a great set, including the usual superb extras and i am sure pristine a/v despite changes that were approved by WKW.
As for me, I've already got the earlier editions of Chungking Express and In the Mood For Love. I think I've tracked down a copy of the reggion B Fallen Angels. As for the others? 2046 appears to not be futzed with. As Tears Go By doesn't seem terrible. I'll wait and see what the reviews are like and whether or not these new versions get single disc releases anywhere. Otherwise I'll watch them when they hit the Criterion Channel.

I’m not defending it, I’m just stating my reasons for getting it. Everyone’s opinions are fine. Just lending credence to my reasons.

I only have Rosemary and Don’t Look Now. Is The Third Man in the Blu-ray keep-case still going for anything?

The visuals of these movies are a huge part of their popularity, and to change them is a terrible idea. I'd rather see Christopher Doyle's involvement as he's just as much a part of their success. It's a real shame, because the movies are great. The A/V may very well not be pristine, some of the video flaws were seen during the 4k screenings of these films, apparently baked into the masters due to WKW's changes.

Still showing as in-stock, for those who aren't in need of the big Fellini set.

Ooh, what fortuitous timing!
Thinning out my movies, I was gonna give away my Criterion blus of Don't Look Now and Days of Heaven, but now I'm gonna sell them for sure.

Amazon Studios is bringing three of its 2021 Oscar contenders to the Criterion Collection: Darius Marder’s “Sound of Metal,” Regina King’s “One Night in Miami,” and Garrett Bradley’s “Time.” The latter two will arrive on Criterion later this year, while “Sound of Metal” will bow in 2022.

For some reason, I have been putting off grabbing a copy of La Dolce Vita for myself for years, but I was able to grab one at DeepDiscount for decent pricing + coupon and it shipped out.

All those titles are still in stock at my local B&N (for list price, of course). If you're afraid of missing out on any of those titles, maybe try checking the stock of your local store on their website.

There's a lot of titles that are unavailable simply because they're waiting for a repress (manufacturing bottlenecks due to covid), but they aren't out of print.
You can kind of tell from Criterion's website store, as some just say out of stock, and others say out of print.
Like "Lady Vanishes' is impossible to find right now, but it's not out of print, just waiting longer than normal for new stock.

They should have given some warning on these titles. I don't want to pay full price at the local store. I guess I won't be able to get them because supply on the oop titles dried up quickly online.

Hopefully a box set on the way.

Is When We Were Kings worth a blind buy? Usually I’m not sure on the rewatchability of a doc, but the subject seems worth it in this case.

The documentary is on Showtime right now if you have it. Are you interested in boxing and boxing history? It’s about the Rumble in the Jungle. Honestly this isn’t the kind of film that has much rewatch value.
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Shoot in that case, I’ll just do a Showtime trial. I’m interested in Ali in particular as of lately. Thanks for the tip.

I don't give a damn about boxing, but saw When We Were Kings in the theater and loved it.

When We Were Kings is one of the best sports movies of all time. I imagine it'd be essential for anyone with an interest in Ali. Although it's tough to argue with streaming it first.

It is related to that, but I also was interested in more Ali content after seeing One Night in Miami.
On a similar note I’m also interested in fictional portrayals of Orson Welles after seeing Mank - RKO 281 and Me and Orson Welles are way better stories overall, even if he’s not the subject of Mank.
