Badlands would be super. A definite buy.

Agreed.

I'm thinking a nice release of Peter Weir's "Fearless" would do wonders - which isn't even available in widescreen on DVD... in ANY region.

If you're region free the special edition of Y Tu Mama Tambien and Amores Perros are available in the UK. I imported them both.

Everyone seems to think its BADLANDS. I had no idea those were supposed to be "lambs", so I came up with a different guess. I thought they kinda looked like mice, so I figured it was THE WILD ONES.

The file name is 'wacky lambs', so they're definitely lambs.

Actually, the German DVD release has an anamorphic widescreen transfer.

Wow, this was the first I've heard of it.
Just looked it up... I stand corrected.

It was released in late 2006... which by then I no longer paid much attention to DVD releases. It took a while for someone to release it properly.

At this point I can't bring myself to buying DVDs anymore, so it'd be nice for Criterion to release it on BD if Warners doesn't want to do it.

Warners can release it as an Archive.

I'd rather they don't.

While I'm not as adamant against the MOD releases as I used to be, the fact remains that once Warner puts these titles out through their Archive Collection, we can kiss any chance (no matter how small they may be) of a Blu-Ray release goodbye. I'd like to have well done Blu-Rays of films I enjoy, and Fearless is one of them.

To bring this back on topic, supposedly, when the deal between WB and Criterion was first brought up, back in 2009, it supposedly involved a handful of films, whose directors had expressed a desire for Criterion to handle the film. Badlands was one of the titles rumored back then, and it seems to be finally coming to fruition. Richard Linklater's SubUrbia was another one that was supposedly confirmed (although we still haven't heard anything on that one).

While that doesn't necessarily guarantee any more WB films for Criterion to release (I know Whit Stillman was hoping to have Barcelona released on Criterion; Warner has since put it on their Archive Collection), there is hope that Fearless could be released as a Criterion eventually (after all, Weir does have a relationship with the company).

With that said, I won't hold my breath...

...if WB didn't want to give up Barcelona...why? What does WB want w/ it? Wouldn't they make more money from licensing it than it's Archive? I mean...really..how many are going to go for that film?

I've never seen the film and barely know shit about it but...wtf is the thought process on such things? Is it just one of those..fuck you...we don't want you to make money off the shit we can't make money on?

I just watched Rosemary's Baby for the first time. Fantastic movie, the blu-ray is sure to look great. Can't wait for it now!

It's just been Warner's policy. They see the value in having a large library of films at their disposal, and the Archive Collection lets them utilize this library without the large amount of unsold stock filling up warehouses.

It says quite a bit about the respect Criterion has that they were able to license even ONE film from their library, let alone a few (if the rumors about this being a deal involving multiple directors that expressly wished to have Criterion release them were true).

Or Warner, like every other studio, see's there is not a whole lot of money left in the catalog business and would rather have some money than no money.

It's better they go the Criterion route than no route.

For some reason my order only shipped today, and all this time I thought it was already on its way.

Off Twitter, this looks like a pretty strong hint for Badlands. The caption reads, "Check out who stopped by the Criterion office yesterday!'

ooooooooh. Nice. Soooooo we'll now have every Pre-New World film w/ Criterion. Nice. Of which there's only 3. Unless you count his short film w/ Harry Fucking Dean Staton which somehow only AFI has.
