I wonder why they are sometimes delayed by a day? It's not like anything is going to change in a day.

I'm probably holding my breath for nothing, but I still haven't lost hope of an eventual Mulholland Dr. announcement. Do we think they'd be more likely to do a proper hint for it first?

Not sure how I feel about It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World...it already has a pretty decent blu-ray that's under $10 (and I own)....I don't know about double dipping that one. Thief looks up my alley and will be a B&N sale purchase for sure.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
IAMMMMW is the one from the batch I almost certainly won't be buying - but it does contain the full 197 minute theatrical version restored by Robert Harris, which hasn't been on any of the other DVD or BD releases.
In fact, it's just a really loaded set in general: •Restored 4K digital film transfer of the general release version of the film, with 5.1 surround Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray •New high-definition digital transfer of a 197-minute extended version of the film, reconstructed and restored by Robert A. Harris using visual and audio material from the longer original road-show version—including some scenes that have been returned to the film here for the first time—with 5.1 surround Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray •New audio commentary featuring It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World aficionados Mark Evanier, Michael Schlesinger, and Paul Scrabo •New documentary on the film’s visual and sound effects, featuring rare behind-the-scenes footage of the crew at work and interviews with visual-effects specialist Craig Barron and sound designer Ben Burtt •Talk show from 1974 hosted by director Stanley Kramer and featuring Mad World actors Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett, and Jonathan Winters •Press interview from 1963 featuring Kramer and members of the film’s cast •Interviews recorded for the 2000 AFI program 100 Years . . . 100 Laughs, featuring comedians and actors discussing the influence of the film •Two-part 1963 episode of the CBC television program Telescope that follows the film’s press junket and premiere •The Last 70mm Film Festival, a program from 2012 featuring cast and crew members from Mad World at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, hosted by Billy Crystal •Selection of humorist and voice-over artist Stan Freberg’s original TV and radio advertisements for the film, with a new introduction by Freberg •Original and rerelease trailers, and rerelease radio spots •Two Blu-rays and three DVDs, with all content available in both formats •PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by film critic Lou Lumenick A lot of effort clearly went into putting this release together - it's just too bad I don't like the film more than I do. |

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I don't understand why criterion is releasing films in dual format that they've already released on dvd. Whats the difference gonna be between Throne of Blood DVD and Throne of Blood Dual format DVD. I don't like that.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
It's just the regular DVD with the BD, I assume. Not a big deal. As long as the price stays the same. I'm fine with their dual format thing.

It's presumably because the current printing of the Throne of Blood dvd has sold out. Rather than do another run of dvds in addition to a run of blu-rays, they instead produce a dual-format edition.

Great month, will definitely pick-up Thief, Throne of Blood, Late Ray and IAMMMMW.

The only thing I can think is that purists nowadays don't consider it the classic it was once deemed as and "unfit" for the collection. |

I'm not sure how that makes me a "purist" though - I'm sure we can all name ostensibly classic films, both comedic and serious, that we don't enjoy. I'm happy that those who do enjoy the film will be able to see it in such a definitive version, though. It's clear that Criterion and Robert Harris put a lot of effort into this release. |

P.S. By definition, anyone who uses the phrase "artsy fartsy" automatically sounds like a tool. I'm sorry to have to inform you of this, but that's just a fact. Guido the killer pimp takes umbrage with that comment. |

Yeah, I'm not understanding why people are comparing to this to the MGM BD. It's a extended version of the movie that's never been released on home video.

I did not enjoy this movie much at all when I watched it about 5 years ago on the original DVD, but damn that's an extensive release. |

the current bluray doesn't have the 'police reports' audio cues during the intermission, will this be reinstated?
