Those two are lesser known and certainly less respected than the other films of the set and instead of producing extensive supplements unique to those films they used the disc space to throw both of them on one disc as a kind of double feature. IMO both of them are interesting but ultimately lousy as movies so it makes sense to me.

From this interview:

I as a fan want The Game on Blu-ray. There’s rumors that it’s coming to Criterion. Is it true?

Fincher: Uh yes.

Do you know when?

Fincher: I don’t, because I haven’t had time to look at it. Here’s what I know…I’ve seen two reels of it or the first three reels and it looked good but I think it’s a question of – because Gramercy was purchased by Universal, I think it’s gone under the Universal home video banner and that they have released very limited funds to finish. And I think that Criterion is having to cobble together…and they’re lovely people and they do amazing work. So I think they’re having to pull every favor that they can in order to be able to make the number work so, I don’t know when that is and I should.

So it’s in the future though…it is coming?

Fincher: I thought it was first quarter of next year, but I’m sure that it won’t happen if I don’t look at the stuff…

I would say that you’re probably involved in it in some way…

Fincher: No, I saw some stuff that looked…you know, again I don’t like revisiting stuff. That’s why I like to put as much effort into finishing it the right way the first time so that you don’t have to go back ‘cuz when you go back it’s like oh my God.

The reference to "La Boca Del Cielo" has to be Cuaron's "Y Tu Mama Tambien".

This is a complete guess but I'm hoping that the globe is in regards to "The Great Dictator" release. The rest of the clues I defer to the Criterion and movie experts on this board.

Is that Where the Wild Things Are? And Seven Year Itch?

What about the guy chained to the boat. Reminds me of Woody Allen, but I can't really place the outfit with any of his films.

And I suppose that's Wild Strawberries in there too.

Briefcase with light coming out = Pulp Fiction?
Strawberries = Wild Strawberries?
Guy with gun = Carlos?

Strong slate of guesses posted over at Criterion Cast: http://criterioncast.com/2011/01/01/...e-of-releases/

Looks like Solaris and Wild Strawberries are pretty much sure things, along with Carlos and Kuroneko (which, by the way,).

I see possibly Wild Strawberries (would make me really happy on blu)

A knife going into coffee... Twin Peaks?

And what looks to be a person in a bear costume about to get shot... Wicker Man remake.

I see Solaris (space station), Cul De Sac (man tied to boat), Y Tu Mama Tambien (beach sign), Wild Strawberries (the strawberries), Kiss Me Deadly (briefcase with light) and Carlos (man with gun).

Rest I'm not sure about.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I know this is in the link, but I've looked around at tons of speculation from Facebook, Criterion Cast, Criterion Forum, here, etc. and I'm going to list what current speculation is saying for all of these. So here goes:

-Space Station = Solaris (obviously upgraded to Blu)
-Patch of Strawberries = Wild Strawberries (Upgrade To Blu)
-Man with glasses and wrapped head on side of boat = Polanski's Cul-De-Sac
-Shining Briefcase = Kiss Me Deadly :D
-Man with gun = Carlos
-Ghost Cat = Kuroneko (Please let this mean we'll get an upgraded Onibaba!)
-Globe = The Great Dictator
-Einstein/Monroe mash-up = Nicholas Roeg's Insignifigance
-Calendar = Sunday, Bloody Sunday
-Can of coffee & blade = ??? - the consensus seems to be White Material (the
suggestion of Jarmusch's Coffee & Cigarettes and Ghost Dog would make me
happy though)
-Woman dancing=?
-Spanish sign = Y Tu Mama Tambien
-Head in water = Diabolique
-Kid with Pillow = Zero For Conduct
-Boat = ??? (many think it is Vigo's L'Atalante to go with Zero For Conduct)
-Splashing water = ??? (could be Breaking The Waves)
-Snow & Stars = ??? (could be the Ice Storm, but the snow isn't heavy so
???)

Only its not the right type of boat (ocean liner) for L'Atalante.
Im starting the think the other guesses for 'Life Aquatic' may be correct.

While the Y Tu Mama Tambien DVD was already a pretty good release, I'm looking forward to Criterion's release, if only because we know we'll see a Blu-Ray release...

I've also kept putting off getting Solaris for some time, looks like my patience will be rewarded...

Assuming the snow and the stars are two different movies, I wonder if the falling snow could be Snow Falling on Cedars. A Criterion BD would be a nice showcase of the fantastic cinematography.

Once Criterion's licenses expire, they will revert back to Studio Canal.

The problem with Snow Falling on Cedars is that while it is a beautiful movie, the storytelling style makes it nearly incoherent.

I thought about that at first, but then remembered that Criterion has quite a few stinkers in the collection already. Snow Falling on Cedars wouldn't be the worst film in the collection.

I'm watching "Delicatessen" now on BD via netflix and they had an intro for other Studio Canal BD's coming out in 2010. Some of the titles were "Belle de Jour", "The Deer Hunter" and "The Elephant Man". I never read about these coming out soon and it's now 2011. Any info?
