Outdated DVD packaging

Speaking of old Crtiterion stuff, I recently purchased Traffic on Blu-ray. I still have the DVD version so I opened it up to check the condition and inside was one of those Criterion checklists dated 2002.
Way OT: The funniest outdated thing I ever found inside a DVD case was in a copy of Ang Lee's Hulk I acquired from a DVD swapping site. Bless the previous owner(s), for they left in a Visa credit card promotion where you could get a credit card with the Hulk on its face. Alas, the expiration date was nearly a decade old. I still wonder who would have taken up that offer. The film was not a success, so I can't imagine it having the same effect as, say, Dark Knight credit cards (like Joker, banks "don't care about money", right?). |

That's not the old one! This is the old logo (at the top):
http://s3.amazonaws.com/criterion-pr...ox_348x490.jpg I think their middle-period logo is the most classy. The current fat C makes Criterion merch look like a baseball team or something. At least they kept the classic Janus Films logo. |

Where are the rights w/ those two?

---Hmm, I just checked Image Entertainment's web site. They still list Flesh For Frankenstein, but Blood For Dracula doesn't turn up. So maybe they only currently have the rights for Frankenstein? |

DVD....*sigh* C'mon CC. Stop losing your stuff. You want my money. Keep your stuff. RIP The Third Man...man, I love that BD.

Any idea why Amazon doesn't have the latest batch up for pre-orders yet? I feel it comes faster than this normally.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
even though an import edition has been released - I really hope Criterion releases 'The River' here in the States soon - please oh please

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I plan on picking up 39 Steps, Lean/Coward, The Gold Rush, Harold and Maude, Summer Interlude, Summer with Monika, and whatever I'm interested in from the April titles.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'll be getting Being John Malkovich, La Haine, Harold & Maude, The 39 Steps, Shallow Grave and Gold Rush for sure. Then I have to decide on what older titles I want to catch up on.

Watched THE WAR ROOM over the weekend and thought it was great. Probably one of my all-time favorite docs.

Naturally, Netflix doesn't carry the Blu-ray. I'm surprised they even offer the DVD, as they've ceased stocking new Criterion releases almost entirely. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Criterion put this up on their youtube channel. Are they putting this on BD anytime soon?

^ I'd kill for this and The Hit.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Eddie Coyle would be great. I have the DVD but would consider upgrading.
There is just too much desirable stuff coming out these days. Each Criterion sale, I mean to catch up with older releases (and I usually do buy a couple), but there are always a bunch of newer titles I really have to grab. So it goes... |

I dearly hope so, but the DVD was released not very long ago, so they may just be catching up. I still don't know why they didn't release it on BD when the DVD came out.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
There are a few titles like that, including Z and L'enfance nue, though the former was supposed to be receiving an HD upgrade at one point and the latter was (I believe) their last DVD-only mainline title other than Louie Bluie, which was inexplicably given its own release instead of being included as an extra on Crumb.

I wish it could be real. I'd get it.
on a serious note....Criterion does know they'd have a cash cow out of Good Burger right? Just release it, CC. Just make it true. |

I would love to have a CC Blu-ray of Kindergarten Cop!

Why is it that April Fool's Day stuff like this ends up being cooler than any of the "real" stuff?

Turns out Kurosawa even visited the set:

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Has anyone heard of anyone having problems with the new A Night to Remember Blu-ray? My father said it stopped playing right as the iceberg arrived. I directed him to Mulvaney's email to get a replacement disc. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if this is an isolated incident. No one on Amazon was complaining about any glitches.
Thanks. |
