Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

Several new Universal pre-orders have popped up at Amazon with no firm dates, buy likely the August to September time-frame:
  • The Breakfast Club
  • The Office: Season Six (rumored to be September 7th)
  • Heroes: Season Four
  • Mercury Rising

Hmm, I have the High School Flashback tin. Looks like I'll end up having to toss the tin. I wouldn't sell it with all 3 films, because I love Weird Science and Sixteen Candles. Who knows if or when they'll ever be released on BD. I looked up the Breakfast Club and it was released on HD-DVD, so its release was probably expected on BD.

Still, another good catalog release, but I'd bet we'll get the same extras as the HD-DVD, which was nothing, instead of the packed SD that exists now. I don't upgrade and keep the SD for extras, so I hope I'm wrong this time.

Thanks (I keep forgetting to check that site), but they've been wrong too. They had Rounders up there for a long time with a new date after its first delay. I'm sure they get told it's coming and then it gets delayed or pushed back. I am sending in a box of SDs for credit, that's why I asked.

If Gizmo says it's been delayed before, I'll just hang on to it until I know for sure and send it the next time I have enough SDs worthy of sending in.

I don't want to end up rebuying, like I did with Kingpin and Rounders where I jumped the gun.

Hopefully it will come out this time anyway.

Well, I think the HD DVD was a single-layer combo, which means they only had about 15GB to work with. Then again, I don't know how much space they actually used on the disc.

It's coming out on time. Looks like Universal is sticking to most of it's plans. Avatar will help (pushing new hardware out).

It was an early release IIRC. Hope they put the damn extras on this time.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

A few more Universal pre-orders have popped up at Amazon with no firm dates
  • Psycho (1960)
  • Meet the Parents
  • The Skeleton Key

These could be further out since Psycho was rumored for November and Little Fockers isn't out in theaters until December, so Meet The Parents may come out just before (Movie Cash maybe[?]).

Psycho would be a day-one purchase for me.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

I have been patiently waiting on Psycho, my favorite film of all-time. Let's hope they treated it with the care it deserves. This should be a loaded 50th Anniversary set. I like the artwork used on the Legacy Series DVD. I wouldn't mind that or the artwork from the original DVD release.

With Little Fockers coming to theaters on 12/22, I'd say it's an extremely good chance we'll see the first 2 on BD soon. I'd say they'll release them for the new film's theatrical release, and then, of course, a box set of all 3 next Spring.

Oh come ON Universal! With so many many great movies you have yet to release on BD, you choose a piece of shit like "The Skeleton Key" over any of them!??

^HD DVD port, so not much work needed - but I do agree that there are still some MUCH better titles that were on HD DVD that have yet to see a blu release.

I watch my HD DVD of Out of Sight at least once a month. Needless to say I love the movie along with a good transfer too.

Exactly. Just one of many movies that deserve a Universal release over the stinkin' "Skeleton Key". Such as:

"Cape Fear" ('62)
"To Kill a Mockingbird"
"The Birds"
"American Graffiti"
"The Sting"
"Jaws"
"Animal House"
"Coal Miner's Daughter"
"The Blues Brothers"
"E.T."
"Fast Times at Ridgemont High"
"Sophie's Choice"
"Scarface"
"Sixteen Candles"
"Back to the Future"
"The Breakfast Club"
"Field of Dreams"
"Do the Right Thing"
"Uncle Buck"
"Born on the Fourth of July"
"Cape Fear" ('91)
"Backdraft"
"Fried Green Tomatoes"
"Scent of a Woman"
"Lorenzo's Oil"
"Death Becomes Her"
"Jurassic Park"
"Schindler's List"
"In the Name of the Father"
"Babe"
"The Nutty Professor"
"Shakespear in Love"
"American Pie"
"Billy Elliott"
"A Beautiful Mind"
"8 Mile"
"Red Dragon"
"About a Boy"

Um, no, I didn't. Or I wouldn't have included them on the list. I didn't know.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

I wonder what's holding up the Universal Spielberg stuff. Paramount is going all out with the Dreamworks titles like Minority Report, Saving Private Ryan, and War of the Worlds.

This summer would have been a perfect time for Jaws to make its BD debut for the 35th anniversary.

To be fair, for what Universal did with the color timing on Do the Right Thing... I'm still waiting for a Spike Lee approved release.

I really want OUT OF SIGHT on BD. Never got around to getting the HD DVD despite it being one of my all time favourite movies... like Popcorn said, I can literally watch that movie all the time and not get sick of it.

It is such a great movie. So underrated. I think it's Soderbergh's best film.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

More Fox TV titles appear to be on the way -- likely late August into September

I could have sworn the last season of It's Always Sunny... was 16x9 but not HD; another up-convert like the Christmas special?

Interesting choice with Modern Family.
