I have a strong suspicion that the corporate buyers at Walmart are guiding many of the "choices" that Lionsgate is picking to release on Blu-ray.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

It seems like it's been so long since all those "big" catalog titles seemed to be announced and nothing good since then. In a short period, it was Minority Report, Apollo 13, Tombstone and Armageddon (albeit both not with the "better" versions, Directors and Extended), Saving Private Ryan, Caddyshack, and War of the Worlds. That's a lot of good stuff and it's all coming from today, with Apollo 13 until about June 8, with Caddyshack. After that, I think it's bone dry as far as announcements of equally strong catalog releases.

I have zero interest in any of the titles you listed. Me so sad.

The Illusionist for Blu-ray + DVD combo release on 6/8 (SRP $24.99)

Another nice surprise. Has Fox done a combo for a catalog release before?

Definitely a big first half, I think it's fair to assume we'll get some bigger ones in the 2nd half too (we know we're getting the Alien series, probably BTTF and maybe Indy), not to mention this yr's new releases.

Odd. Wonder if it's one of those bastard DVD rubber banded to a Blu-Ray set. Ick. I'll stick with my Canadian copy.

Either that or it's just the BD with a copy of the original DVD thrown in.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

According to retailer information, Warner Home Video will soon release half a dozen new TV season sets on Blu-ray: Chuck: The Complete Third Season, Fringe: The Complete Second Season, Human Target: The Complete First Season, Smallville: The Complete Ninth Season, Supernatural: The Complete Fifth Season, V: The Complete First Season and The Vampire Diaries: The Complete First Season.
I have doubt on Human Target and V if they don't get picked up for another season...but everything else is pretty much given.

That department of Warner does not do lossless. I'd love it as well, but I think the idea of one less disc each a season is what Warner wants (they ave money on discs/packaging). I'm just glad Warner continues to release TV on BD unlike other studios.

No shit. "Ladybugs" AND "Jimmy Hollywood"!? Come on Lionsgate! These are not even the bottle of the barrel. They're underneath.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

http://blu-news.com/index.php/2010/0...-ray-releases/

Los Angeles, CA April 14, 2010 – Today, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment kicked off a 12-month marketing, promotions, publicity and media campaign to honor and promote the studio’s legacy and library. The celebration will include the release of more than 300 films on Blu-ray Disc and DVD, showcasing a remarkable, rich and unparalleled heritage of great movies, Academy AwardŽ-winners and box office smashes featuring a cast of the greatest movie stars and directors from yesterday and today.

BLU-RAY DISC
Fox will release a selection of event titles on Blu-ray Disc for the first time. Event titles making their Blu-ray Disc debut in Q3 and Q4 2010 include:

● ALIEN ANTHOLOGY

○ All four Alien films digitally restored and available together in a six disc set packed with extras

● THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (35TH ANNIVERSARY)
○ New special features including live cast re-enactments and RHPS karoake

● THE SOUND OF MUSIC (45TH ANNIVERSARY)
○ Digitally restored with 7.1 audio and never before seen interactivity and features

● WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’S ROMEO & JULIET
○ New high definition transfer and BD Live special features including Live Lookup

● MOULIN ROUGE!

○ New high definition transfer and BD Live special features

● THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS
○ All-new Director’s Definitive Cut and interviews with Daniel Day Lewis
I'll grab the Alien set when it goes sub $40 and probably Rocky/Moulin when they are under $15.

Is that Romeo and Juliet the one with Dicaprio?

I believe it is since these are Fox titles and both Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet were directed by Baz Luhrmann, though I guess it could be a coincidence.

Damn.

Moulin Rouge! isn't exactly new news since it's been in promo materials, but an actual confirmation is great to see. Plus, what's this Definitive Cut of Last of the Mohicans?

It means that it is the final, last and complete cut right up until they rerelease again at a later time with a different cut. Then that becomes the "new" definitive cut.
