TAKING WOODSTOCK (2009) -- A fun film to watch. I never got around to seeing it when it hit the theater -- and it seems like nobody else did either -- but it's enjoyable. It probably would have fared better at the box office had it been released a little earlier last summer, when the 40th anniversary Woodstock buzz was at its peak. Nevertheless, it's something I'd watch again. The video quality is gorgeous.

Falling Down - What a fucking badass movie, It's so awesome to watch the tension build and build throughout the film, I can't believe I haven't seen this before.
The Hurt Locker - Pretty enjoyable movie, nothing super spectacular about it, but it was cool to see a concentrated group of soldiers instead a huge group like their typically seems to be in every war movie.
Mad Men: Season Three - Absolutley love this show, it just keeps getting better with each season. Amazing PQ as well.

The Messenger-Great performances, moving story, but something just kept me from connecting with the story completely. Of the "war" movies, including The Messenger and The Hurt Locker, I actually prefered Brothers.

ArmoredLooks and sounds good but plays more like a TV movie. Surprised they got several well known names to star in it.

Watched The Road last night. Absolutely loved the movie, wish I would have gone to see it in the theaters. People are crazy that criticized this film & its more proof that the Oscars are meaningless because Viggo is absolutely phenomenal in this film. Don't remember there being wife-flashbacks in the book, & I didn't like those but what a truly great piece of filmmaking. Awesome transfer as well.

Asbolutely, this is not a film for everyone, and yes, it may be the most bleak post-apocalyptic tale I can think of on screen. I didn't find it boring at all, but its very much an anti-hollywood film, so people that are used to needing every movie to quickly get to the point, spell everything out for you, and use lots of edits & quick camera cuts to move the pace along will hate this movie.
I personally don't think it is "overly" depressing film, because it is a bleak story, that is the point. And as a film it is pure well-crafted filmmaking, its light on dialogue, it uses the images to tell the story. I will say though, if anyone saw the Proposition (which I think is a modern masterpiece) & hated that movie, don't bother with this one.
Its not a perfect film, I didn't like the addition of all the flashbacks which weren't in the book, but its a powerful movie and for me very enjoyable.

I heard the same thing, its why I rented it first (but now will definitely buy). I would say that this would not be a criticism of the film though, rather just a matter of personal taste. It seems most reviews I've read about the film that knock it are people projecting what they want out of a movie, dismissing a film instantly just because it is depressing & not what they are use to.

Basic Instinct. I'd never seen it before. I know this is supposed to be a guilty pleasure, but so what? I enjoyed the hell out of it. Sharon Stone was great...

Edge of Darkness- It looked decent, although the detail seemed there in some shots, but not in others. I would have preferred a little more grain, as it was shot on film, it looked a little to smooth. Overall it was easy on the eyes. The sound mix was just awful. By far the worst sounding Blu Ray I have ever came across. The movie itself was worth seeing, but definitely a disappointment.
