Watched Jason and the Argonauts last night, that I got from amazon during Black Friday. Beautiful transfer of this old favorite, with Harryhausen's wonderful animation.

Way to go Sony, on keeping your BDs looking filmlike. Wish more of the majors would be as consistent in this regard. I am rarely disappointed in the PQ of a Sony release.

Just grabbed the Harryhausen box set the other day, from a seller on Amazon Marketplace for $44 shipped. I now own all the BDs of Ray's work that have been released so far.

Alien (Director's Cut) - Fox knocked this one right out of the park. Watching this on BD was like watching a brand new movie, the picture quality is astounding.

Aliens (Director's Cut) - Just like the first one, this movie looks breathtaking on BD. I honestly can't believe it looks as good as it does; simply awesome.

Alien 3 (Workprint) - I forgot how weak this film is, especially when viewed right after 1 & 2. PQ was solid for the most part, though there were a handful of scenes marred by excessive grain and some soft focus. I like some of the changes made for this workprint, but the theatrical cut has better continuity; this cut feels haphazard.

What did you think? It's always interesting to hear the thoughts of a first time viewer when it comes to something like that.

As for me, my wife got back from her girls trip and picked up The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Special Edition. Man, oh, man, does she hate the flipper nature of the disc. We were under the impression that at least the bonus content was on a second disc. Knowing that all the bonus material is on the same side as the Blu-ray side really lit her up, because it made it clear that the movie only edition is complete exploitation of the fans.

Anyway, the movie looked great. In fact, it looked too great at times, and began to appear artificial. A shame, because they actually shot against some gorgeous landscapes. Plot wise it was still too much moping and dialog that even George Lucas would have considered unworthy of characters, but at least it had a sense of pace--unlike the previous two. In a word: "endurable."

I think the exclamation point tells us what he thought of them.

I just figured the exclamation point was in relation to the admission it was a first time viewing.

I thought they were both great! My impression was maybe that they'd be a little dry, or something I just wouldn't like (for whatever reason), but it's been a LONG time since I've popped a movie in right after another one. I particularly liked part II a lot more than the first, but they were both thorougly entertaining. Unfortunatley I probably won't be getting to third part until sometime this upcoming weekend.

The Departed (HD DVD) - I still love this film. Sure, it's flawed but it's great fun to watch all these actors together on screen. Wahlberg and Baldwin totally steal every scene they're in.

Inception - Second time seeing it, loved it. I try not to think about some of the logic gaps and just enjoy what Nolan gavce us: a cerebral, sci-fi Bond film.

Inception

Not the masterpiece that I heard lots of people say it was, but it was ridiculously fun and very satisfying.

Great casting all around. At some points the film made me physically dizzy. Hope I get a chance to give this film a second viewing soon.
