Yeah, looking at the review here at DVDTalk thats about right. I'm a bit bummed we won't be getting a new commentary with the Corey's since they seem to be all the rage now (on A&E!). Hopefully they can muster up some new deleted scenes.

It would be nice if they could just include a download code without having to include an extra disc.
I'm a bit bummed that there is a LE edition for DVD and not for Blu-ray. I want a Jack Skellington bust

Edit: Nevermind. They want $179.99 MSRP for that edition. PASS.

I wonder if BD-25 is enough for The Lost Boys. I guess it is since it's only 97 minutes, but there are about 90 minutes of supplements too. I suppose those won't take up much space if they're VC-1 though.
Blu-ray.com has updated the listing. This film gets a TrueHD track.

I was all ready to pile on Sony too after that crappy announcement, but then decided to take a closer look at my Blu-Ray collection. Out of my 34 standard Sony DVDs, I was able to replace 29 with a Blu-Ray. That means only 5 of my favorite Sony DVDs have yet to receive a Blu-Ray upgrade (Fish Called Wanda, Ronin, Ghostbusters, Pink Panther Strikes Again and Revolver). That's a pretty damn good % if you ask me (85%). Now the interesting thing is that when you look at Columbia Tri-Star (someone can explain the whole Sony/Columbia Tri-Star relationship better than I can), they have published exactly ZERO of my 22 standard DVDs in Blu-Ray. In fact, according to DVDAF.com, Columbia Tri-Star has released ZERO USA Blu-Rays period. Might explain while I a still waiting patiently for Das Boot, Glory, Leon, Holy Grail, The Natural, Panic Room, Snatch, Taxi Driver, etc...

By way of comparison, Fox has published 31 of my 93 DVDs on Blu-Ray (33%), and Warner 39 of my 105 DVDs (37%).

Columbia Tri-Star is Sony.

So, let's look at it like this: Sony has not announced Glory, Leon, Snatch, or Taxi Driver but have announced Maximum Risk, Half Past Dead, 7 Seconds, and xXx: State Of The Union.

It's actually a higher percentage, as A Fish Called Wanda, Ronin, and The Pink Panther are MGM titles that would now be distributed by Fox, not Sony.

I realize Sony and Columbia are one in the same, but why does DVDAficionado.com call some DVDs Sony only, while some Columbia Tri-Star only? There has to be some distinction right? I'm trying to determine why the DVDs that are flagged as Columbia Tri-Star only have a 0% release rate on Blu-Ray

Well, in Sony's defense, Amazon.com do need more titles for their two for one sales.

It may be due to what is on the disc's case. That can vary and change from time to time. It's annoying because in DVD Profiler, I have to look for around a dozen different names to cover everything from a particular studio ("studio" being a major one like Disney that covers Miramax, Touchstone, etc.). Plus, since the database is user-created, inevitably there are variances and abbreviations. For instance, I have the following in the list of studios just for Columbia/Tri-Star:

Columbia Pictures
Columbia Pictures Film Prod. Asia
Columbia Tristar
Columbia Tristar Home Ent
Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment
Columbia Tristar Home Vid
Columbia Tristar Home Video
Columbia/Tristar

That doesn't include the entries for Sony, Revolution Studios, and some others, of course. Many titles have more than one closely related entity listed though, such as those with both Columbia Pictures (the film studio) and CT Home Video (the video division).

Got some other street dates for everyone today:

War, Inc has been pushed back to 10/14.

The Mist is showing up on 09/16/08 msrp of $29.95. no idea if it will have the b/w version.

Leatherheads is also on 09/16/08 msrp of $39.98

Smart People is coming on 08/12/08 with msrp of $34.99

All 4 of the Jack Ryan collection come on July 29 with msrp of $29.99, it doesn't look like there is a boxset for it.

Kinda bummed that Beowulf(07/29) and Transformers(09/02) both are msrp of $39.99

Shine a Light shows up on 07/29/08 msrp of $39.99

Any word on specs for the Jack Ryan movies?

I'm curious as to whether the DVD extras will be ported over on this version or if they'll be feature-free like the HD-DVD releases.

Most likely Jack Ryan will be a port of the HD DVD version, so no extras (or whatever was on the recalled HD DVD versions)

Good news on The Mist. Now I just need 1408 and Halloween.

I believe the Jack Ryan BDs will have the featurettes from the dvd release. I think Geonosis from blu-ray.com had the specs listed. He has got some great sources.

Also, Top Gun HD DVD had 0 extras. The upcoming BD WILL have the dvd extras.

Confirmation on all the Jack Ryan films:

"Back when I first posted that Paramount would be releasing 'Patriot Games' and 'Sum of All Fears' on Blu-ray, I was flooded with questions about whether or not they would also be releasing the other two films in the now canceled 'Jack Ryan Collection'. Word from the studio has finally come down, and Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed that they will also bring 'The Hunt for Red October' and 'Clear and Present Danger' to Blu-ray on July 29th, the same date as the previously announced Jack Ryan films."

www.blu-ray.com

And it appears these won't be barebones like the HD DVD versions, and will include the slim dvd extras.

Not necessarily. The HD DVD of TOP GUN was barebones and the new Blu-ray version coming out has a nice selection of bonus goodies.

I've posted cover art for Patriot Games in the Paramount thread. It contains TrueHD audio. No doubt the others will as well. Paramount is making up big time for their decision last August.

^Cool, but I hope they're releasing them individually so I don't have to buy the fourth one or the remake. Or, I hope the set just contains the trilogy.

Edit: I saw on AVS that it has the remake (as Disc 1, for some reason) and then the trilogy. I think they will put them out separately, since most of those who like the remake would already have it. It was even one of the handful of titles they reduced in price IIRC.

It's a boxed set. With a hefty retail price of $129.99.
