Doesn't The Perfect Storm have a Dolby TrueHD track? It should since the HD-DVD did.

No argument on the rest though. Don't forget Michael Clayton. I'm pretty sure that only had DD 5.1. And none of their TV show releases have lossless either.

Wait, regular DD 5.1? Like in DVDs? Like on the Training Day Blu-ray? Ugh.

Both Blu-ray.com and Highdefdigest show a DD5.1 EX track (which the HD DVD did have as well as a DD+ and TrueHD) on a 50GB disc. It will have a new Picture transfer though since the early release was apparently pretty bad.

"The Sopranos: Season 6 pt 1" BD had PCM 5.1, didn't it?

^^Yep, it did, though I guess it could be considered an HBO release.

BD has a higher bitrate track at 640kbps vs. the 448 or lower for DVD, but still no lossless is

The back cover of The Perfect Storm at DVDEmpire also confirms only a DD-EX track.

Oddly enough that's the only dual Warner release where BD had a better audio option.

Maybe the mods can merge these responses to a dedicated thread?

I suggest we call that thread: "Warner Bros. going lossless?? - What the @#$%!"

I'm still confident The Perfect Storm will have TrueHD. Bill Hunt spoke with WB directly and was told it would have it. Maybe that cover at DVD Empire is out of date. If they went to the trouble of doing a new encode for this movie, then they surely will make sure it has the same audio as the HD DVD.

Your original post, just like this one, do not prove Warner "is not a fan of lossless".

Fool's Gold and Bucket List should have had lossless, but WB went with BD-25. I am not happy about that, but that again does not equal "WB is not a fan of lossless".

You can't make assumptions like that when they still have lossless titles coming out.

WB is still the worst major studio for audio though - no arguments there.

Those 3 titles mean they have abanonded lossless audio? Nope, it's yet another wrong assumption on your part.

They will be 100% lossless sometime this year. It takes months to implement a change like this. The Lost Boys will have TrueHD audio and that's one film I bet no one thought WB would give lossless audio too. Look how long it took Paramount to finally be consistent with lossless audio.

So you skipped the handful of titles I listed that do not have lossless? I went through every announced Warner title and only Batman and Lost Boys show lossless. That's it for announced. Are you just assuming there future titles after these will be lossless? Cause right now they are not.

Yeah, it's possible, as I think they had posted covers of the original Face/Off BD and HD DVD covers with erroneous disc counts on them. Hopefully it is.

You could take a small snapshot like that in time of any 2-month period and show vastly different results. That's the point.

Again, it is not a good thing, and I don't condone it.

I have little doubt most day and date titles will still have lossless. It's the titles like L.A. Confidential that I fear for. But I'm still not ready to make a blanket statement that WB doesn't like lossless. It unfortunately seems to have more to do with using BD-25 when they can, which is also something I am not happy about.

7 titles. 8 if you include The Lost Boys Tribe at the end of July. 2 out of 10 have lossless, Batman Begins and The Lost Boys.

A comparison to Paramount is great. Paramount goes Blu, all titles now lossless and everyone rejoices. Warner goes Blu, most now not Lossless and people give excuses?

We both can agree that wish all these were Lossless. But right now they are not and Warner is not pledging lossless. While insiders say it will change soon, right now we are stuck with DD5.1.

Twister was the last dual format release and it was TrueHD. Justice League was a dual release and both were TrueHD. Batman Gotham Knight is BD exclusive and its DD5.1. Maybe Warner is trying out higher bitrate encodes and sacraficing lossless? I hope not. I'd much rather have lossless then a higher encode where it needs to be zoomed to see a difference.

You're right. The Sopranos Season 6 sets had uncompressed/lossless on Blu-ray(Part 2, I believe was lossless on HD-DVD as well).

But were those specifically handled by WB or by HBO? If so, that could make a difference. Kinda like how New Line titles all have DTS HD-MA 7.1 audio on Blu-ray.

HBO handles it and Warner distributes IIRC.

Fixed. Their mediocrity continues... I hope Jeff Bewkes gets this straightened out.

Excuses? Such as?

I'm relaying info I read from individuals, who unlike yourself, stay in contact with the studios and know exactly how the system works. Once again, it takes time for such a move to be implemented into the system. WB now supports 100% lossless audio, but this kind of decision, unfortunately, can't take effect overnight. Paramount saw the light months earlier than WB.

Paramount went lossless from day 1 when they went BD only which is awesome. I won't go into contacts either with you as thats a moot point for me.

Warner was supporting lossless heavily before they started BD only titles. Now, its DD5.1 for almost everything announced.

100% may be coming for WB, but right now its not.

Maybe someone can PM a mod to merge the post in a different thread? My iPhone keeps crashing during PMs.

getting back to release news, over at digital bits today, bill hunt had lots of info on upcoming warner releases.

------------

Also coming in time for the holidays from HBO, just as we anticipated, is the Band of Brothers mini-series on Blu-ray Disc. All of the previous DVD extras will be included, along with new bonus content exclusive to high-def. The new extras will include In the Words of Easy Company, a dynamic, optional picture-in-picture commentary by the surviving Easy Company veterans, and In the Field with the Men of Easy Company, an interactive field guide charting a path from the storming of the beaches on D-Day to the assault on Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest.

On the live action front, just in time for the Presidential election, Warner will deliver a 3-disc JFK: Ultimate Collector's Edition on DVD, including special packaging, 3 hours of bonus content and collectible memorabilia, as well as an all new documentary, The Kennedy's: America's Emerald Kings. This title will also be available on Blu-ray Disc format in Digibook packaging.

A Casablanca: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set is also coming to both DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Both will include 40 minutes of special features, 2 feature-length commentaries, branded travel-related premiums, a photo book, and much more.

As for more recent live action fare, an I Am Legend: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set will be available on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and will include an alternate version of the film with the "controversial ending," all-new special features such as a new filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes, "iconic" premium collectible items and more.

Also, a 300: Limited Collector's Edition box set will be available this fall on DVD only, as a special box set including all the previous DVD extras along with two new documentaries (Recreating the Spartan Era and 300: Legend Filtered Through History, Graphic Novel and Film), as well as other exclusive memorabilia (a lenticular hologram, artwork cards and more). The reason it's DVD only? The studio tells us that a much more elaborate Blu-ray Disc version is currently in production for release in 2009, complete with new BD-Live and Bonus View content. It's tentatively set for about mid-year, so watch it to arrive in stores about a year from now. We'll have more details as they become available.

Eh on all of it. To much crap I'll never use or display. At least the Blade Runner set came in a really cool display box and had useful extra. Cookie cutters for A Christmas Story? Postcards for I Am Legend? Some traveling junk for Casablanca?

I'll gladly purchase the digibook of JFK, but everything else just seems like a giant waste.
