There is only 1 format for HD Movies. There is no "Demographic" of Blu-ray owners, there are just Blu-ray owners, because there is no other choice if you want HD Movies from now on. Calling the majority PS3 owners changes nothing, Blu-ray is the only game in town now. Also, Casablanca and Forbidden Planet sold piss poor on HD DVD while the format was in its prime and the titles were exclusive to the format. What does that say about the "HD DVD Owner" Demographic? What about the #1 selling HD DVD movie of all time, Transformers? Mindless movie with stuff blowing up and CGI Robots. Would you now call the Majority of HD DVD owners "Xbox owners"?

Seriously chanster, give it up and move on. Oh and happy Easter!!

I doubt it. Instead you will get double dips of fantastic movies like Alien v. Predator. Sure the people on this forum might care, but I don't think we are representative of much.
IMHO... I'll get more classics this year on BD than you'll get on your HD On-Demand.

ETA: Happy Easter Chanster!

You are exactly right..stuff on HD DVD sold piss poor too. No denying that.

You are telling me there is no demographic on Blu Ray owners? Please, thats just false.

So yeah I don't think the "classics" were going to get to HD DVD or Blu Ray very fast.

Please stop attacking me I have never told you to shut up or "give it up" or anything like that. Thats ridicoulous.

WB seems to think it's worth releasing Bonnie & Clyde on BD.

Sony has started a "Columbia Classics" label starting with A Passage To India.

They're trying at least.

Mod Note: This is a discussion thread. It is okay for members to post things that are critical of Blu-ray, provided their criticisms are meant to further discussion, and not simply disparage the format. These people should not be told to "move on" or "give it up." If you feel a member is posting out of spite, report the post. Do not engage the poster. At this point, we are suspending people who start fights and people who reply and continue the fight.

If you're here to discuss Blu-ray, either its merits or its faults, then you will be fine. If you are here to do nothing but disparage Blu-ray, you're not welcome here. If you're here to discuss HD DVD, you're not welcome. If you're here to bicker, you're not welcome and will be suspended.

And the much hated Fox is giving us Patton in a few months, which I'll gladly buy. I think other classics will start showing up this year. But if the ones out now aren't selling, then it makes sense to hold some back and wait for the user base to grow.

I don't know how many consider it a classic, but I thought I read that Blade Runner sold pretty well on HD. Next year, we'll get Gone With the Wind, North By Northwest, and Wizard of Oz. I think all of those will do well.

Speaking of great things that may come... I'm hoping Universal can get some of Hitchcock's films out! I'm scratching for 'Psycho' !

I hope we get more classic films on blu-ray. They need to attract more than just gamers to the format.

I'm hoping Wizard of Oz includes the deleted "munchkin hanging" scene In HD we can finally see its a bird and not a suicidal munchkin.

We will. I think they had to go with more of the stuff that would sell during the war with so few owners of hardware, but now that Blu-ray is established I see them dipping into all the genres to expand the audience as much as possible.

Come to think of it, has there been a surge in player sales in the last month? Usually I don't care about sales figures, but in this case I would be interested to see if ending the format war actually did have a big effect. Of course, we can't determine how many of those players were sold to HD DVD-only owners rather than people new to HDM, but regardless, it would be interesting.

The PS3 has outsold the Xbox360 this year and I think the end of the war is a big reason. The PS3 is still the best Blu-ray player on the market and its jump in sales is probably tied to that. There have been no major games to push PS3 sales this early in the year and that leaves Blu-ray movies as the prime reason for the increase.

That's just because everyone already owns a 360.

And the 360 has had less supply recently, if you believe Microsoft (which I do). I don't think the comparison to the 360 really matters, but the PS3 is selling more the last few months then it was prior to Christmas, so I'd agree that some of the boost can be attributed to Blu-Ray.

The Rock dvd problems

haha well played sir.

I got my ps3 last month and use it strictly for playing blu-ray and dvds. I was wondering if anybody has watched "The Rock" SD-DVD on a ps3 yet? When i watch mine it shrinks the picture as if I'm zooming out. I have a widescreeen tv (olevia 232v, using hdmi for ps3 of course) and most fullscreen titles have bars on the sides. Widescreen movies either take up the entire screen or have bars on top the way it should be. This movie has bars all around and my 32 inch tv looks like its putting out 20 inches!!! Is it just me having this problem, and is it the movies format, ps3 or tv? thanks,

The first Rock DVD was non-anamorphic.

I see that the aspect ratio for the blu-ray version is the same though but guessing I wont have that problem since it's anamorphic

Well, anamorphic doesn't apply to BD, but yes, the disc will play fine with the proper aspect ratio.

According to PC World, the PS3's firmware version 2.20 will allow it to send standard def copies of Blu-ray movies to PSPs. We covered news of this firmware before, happy the PS3 is getting more advanced Blu-ray support. And we covered these PS3 to PSP transfers in January. But this is the first time we've heard of these features being mentioned within a specific firmware. This is great in principle.

I'm glad they're opening up the Blu monster. But I'm not sure I want to a) wait through the transfer and encode from Blu to PS3 to PSP, although I'm sure the Cell proc will be suited to this task and b) have to start carrying my PSP around. Might be better off just ripping those movies totally DRM free so you can put them on any device. [PC World via PSPUpdates]

I wonder how that will work...kinda makes the whole digital copies that Fox/Lionsgate are doing useless. I may have to snag a used PSP again.
