I was at Fry's this morning and no briefcase for any version where to be found. Looks like they stocked about 10 sets of the Blu-Ray 5-disc and about 4-5 of the HD DVD set.

I don't have a scan of the back of the collection, but why isn't 1080p alongside the Workprint video specs or is it just assumed the consumer reads and interprets that all the cuts are full 1080 - interesting to see that the aspect ratio for the workprint is 2.2:1

The back does state differently, but the booklet inside says the "workprint version" is in full HD. I'll pop it in and see...

edited to say: Watching the workprint version now...my A2 says the video codec is "VC-1". The video quality so far is a mixed bag - definitely not what I'd call HD-reference by any means, but the colors are great, detail is ok, some noticable damage/dirt in some scenes. Overall I'd say it's on par with the remastered Director's Cut SD DVD that came out last year, upscaled on my tv (51"). And the aspect ratio is different.

Far better than what I expected though, and I'm supposed to be studying for an Algebra final I have in 3 hours dammit. I don't want to tear away!

My HD-DVD briefcase came in today from WHV. Hard to believe but, it's true. I was hoping for a metal case but, it's not too bad. I going to check out the final cut first.

My Blu-ray case got shipped today from Amazon.

And the Workprint is in full 1080p HD.

Problem is that I can't decide which version to get - Blu-ray or HD-DVD. Regardless of which version I get though, I can't wait to watch the movie. I'm one of those chumps who's never seen the film. I think I might get Close Encounters, too...since I've only seen half to three-quarters of that.

Any ideas?
I opted for the Blu-ray version because:
1) The scratch resistant coating on the discs
2) My PS3 outputs video at 1080p/24Hz whereas my A2 outputs at 1080i

However, seeing as both versions have the same video and audio, it's impossible to go wrong either way. I will say the red case fits this movie better.

For those with the briefcase....
Does Blade Runner come in the normal, retail packaging?

I'll spoilerize this for now since many haven't see the final cut yet:

Spoiler:

I was very surprised to hear the line change when Roy meets Tyrell.

Instead of saying "I want more life, fucker.", he now says "I want more life, father".

Interesting change.

On the Blu-Ray versions, is the lettering on the attache case...blue? Just curious.

Amazon is no longer taking orders for the Ultimate HD DVD version. Blu-ray is still open for orders.

I checked Best Buy's site and didn't see it on there either (though maybe I didn't check far enough) but CC does have it for $69.99 for anyone who really wants it...

No, the briefcase is the same for all three formats. There's a little banner at the top that says which version the briefcase is for, but that's it.

I updated my review to make it clear that all five cuts of the film are in full 1080p.

It says the studio is having manufacturing problems. Is this actually true, or is Amazon just sold out?

Sold out apparently.

Warner has been having issues with their HDM movies for a few months now.

Could be both. I think I read others still have that production delay notice but you can still order it.

I'm sure this has been answered a million times and I read the Digital Bits review and still wasn't sure..

Is there any disc content included in the briefcase Blu-Ray version that's not in the 5-disc Blu-ray version? Or is all of the briefcase extras just swag stuff?

Thanks very much for your help.

If it's like the HD DVD version (and I'm sure it is) the briefcase contains the keepcase 5-disc set you can buy standalone, and some swag. No extra discs.

Thanks. I was at BB today and was shocked they did not have it. Checked online right now and found the same thing you did that they don't carry it. I will check CC for it.

what's the availability of this going to be like in say... a month? The 5-disc non-briefcase Blu-ray.

Is yours Blu-ray? I got 101424. Just testing my theory that all the Blu-rays were the final (highest) numbers in the 103,000.

Can someone give me a brief rundown of the history of the different cuts? I understand it that Deckard was not a replicant, then a replicant and then in the final cut he's back to not a replicant? Is that right?

Not really, no. It's never stated one way or the other. All the speculation basically concerns two things: the unicorn dream (not in the theatrical cut, in the director's and final cuts) and Deckard's glowing eyes in one scene, which were slightly enhanced in the final cut.
