The non-briefcase BD and HD DVD sets aren't limited editions but the standard release for this film, so they'll be as available as any other HD disc release that's a month old.

There always was the possibility that Deckard was a replicant, with a few hints in even the theatrical cuts. However, in the '92 Director's Cut and now Final Cut it's implied a little more strongly that he is.

However, as Tracer Bullet and the featurette on the new set point out, it's not definitive in any cut that he's either a replicant or human, and the film can be interpreted either way.

In a month, there will be plenty of them available. By spring, all your BB, CC, and Fry's stores will have them on their endcaps. By summer, you'll be getting them free in Kellogg's cereal boxes. Ok, I'm exaggerating a little, but I expect the manufacturing numbers of the non-briefcase version to go insane.

Ah thanks to you and Tracer Bullet for that. I watched the movie (the final cut) only for the 2nd time in my life last night and thought it could go either way.

Check out the featurette on disc 4 called "Deck-A-Rep." It's got everything you need to know about the Deckard being a Replicant controvery.

Ridley Scott says Deckard is a replicant and goes as far to say viewers are "morons" if they don't see it on the new disc.

Frank Darabont insists that Deckard is human and even gives a good explanation of the whole unicorn dream/unicorn origami in the Final & Director's cuts. He also gives a good argument about how the movie doesn't "work" if Deckard's a replicant.

Harrison Ford states that he fought with Ridley over the replicant/human issue, and, in his mind, Deckard was human.

Bottom line, it's up to you and what you want to believe.

I believe it is the Blu-Ray version that is experiencing trouble.

Does anyone know if the there is a side-by-side comparison between the atrocious bare-bones BR dvd that came out in 97' and the new Final Cut anywhere? Do they demonstrate this anywhere on the Ultimate Edition dvd? I'd love to see that.

Also, I just wanted to add one thing about the whole Deck-A-Rep thing...The new "Final Cut" version is much less ambiguous on this controversial notion. Like the previous post above, Deckard's likelihood of being a replicant is even more strongly implied by simple editing techniques. It can, however, have a profound effect on how one views the film. I'm undecided as to whether or not this was a good move on Scott's part. Personally, I think the ambiguity of the Director's Cut is perfect. The mystery of Deckard lends to the mysterious nature of the film and its implications on morality. I don't know why Scott felt it necessary to come out and be so expository on this tenuous subject. I think it makes him more one-dimensional.

Ok, hopefully those of us with the HD-DVD version are safe then (myself included). Of course, between this and the Harry Potter Blu-Ray giftset problem, it's just a matter of time before someone suggests this is some HD-DVD conspiracy!

Probably will pick up the HD set when I get back from my trip. Anyone with the HD set having problems?

Between this and the Harry Potter fiasco, I think this is an HD DVD conspiracy.

I just got my Blu-ray briefcase. Number 100379/103000. My disc 5 is the correct workprint disc.

DVDBeaver has comparisons of all the R1 DVDs, including the final cut:
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDRev...laderunner.htm

Note that the Final Cut's images are from SD sources, so don't reflect how it looks in HD.

I have a feeling they pulled ALL bluray copies. That's why you can't find them and everything is back ordered.

I've been to several stores BB & CC included and they all have the hd versions some had the briefcases but not a single store i visited got the blu-ray case in.

I saw 2 HD DVD and 1 Blu-ray today at Best Buy. They were a pain to find. I doubt Warner would recall these as no announcement has been made. They will replace the discs though.

I wonder how many "normal" people will actually notice?

Edit: My HD DVD Briefcase shipped from Amazon! So excited to watch this movie for the first time.

Despite the problems with the Blu-ray fifth disc, which version is best to get for someone who supports both formats? I'm neutral and I'd personally be fine if the war never ended, but I want to try to future proof myself or at least get the better version.

Any recomendations?

They're both exactly the same. Go with whichever color you like more, I guess.

I believe both are 100% identical in every way.

Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up... now the real question... should i risk buying it considering the known BD problems?

Mine shipped today! So excited. This is a semi- blind buy buy me. I watched this years ago when i was younger and really don't remember much. What version should I watch first? The original Us theatrical? The DC? Or the final cut?

It's almost like a Star Wars question. Every now and then you run into someone who hasn't seen any....Not sure why lol maybe they were in a bunker the past 30 years. But I usually say watch 4-6 first just because that's how it was originally aired. So I think I might go with the theatrical first but I'm up for sugg's thanks

whats up w/the fifth disc? Did they accidently put the FIFTH ELEMENT on it or something? Could I get a link?

I watched (between falling asleep due to the hectic retail schedule) the first disc and was very surprised to see the pores on Harrison Fords face. Another satisfing HDM title
