Thanks so much for all the feedback on the ad. And, if anybody has questions about the film, I'd be happy to answer them. I think it's great to see such an swell in interest in a European film.

They must be trying to get past any block we might have set up: "I know, we'll switch two letters around, then they won't realize it's the SAME MOVIE!!!"

Count me in as another one turned off by the ads. Every time I hear the movie mentioned I get a sour taste in my mouth. It keeps going off on me, and it has sound, no less. Stupid Stupid Ad.

I'm probably IB's target audience-- I read the site daily, almost never post, and usually click the reviews and links. If I'm not mistaken, most of my Amazon purchases originated from here over the past 8 or so years.
Anyway, I won't be coming back here after having spent far too many days reading Frontier(s) nonsense, the family-friendly hypocrisy in Otter, and HoustonDon's constant fucking white-knighting.
With that said, fuck you, Internet Brands. Seriously, fuck you, you viral bottom-feeding dotbomb-wannabe ad-spawning silent soulless ignorant corporate shell of an money-making scamjob. Hearts and kisses.
Geoff and mods, thanks for the mammaries and memories over the years. Best of luck with your endeavors.

That's a joke in case anybody from IB reads this, but seriously, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to fix this stuff. If you don't fix stuff, you're going to piss off people. If you piss off people, they stop coming. If they stop coming, your investment turns to
Simple.

Q: How will joining Internet Brands Help DVD Talk?
A: The main benefit will be having more infrastructure and technology resources behind the site. Better servers and hardware will mean better performance for the site and admin tools. And more technology resources will mean faster bug-fixes, quicker turnaround on site changes and more frequent updates in site software, like vBulletin or photo-posting applications.
Q: Will DVD Talk become part of another Internet Brand site?
A: Internet Brands plans to keep DVD Talk a separate, thriving site and to continue expanding its content, community and traffic.
Q: Are the forum moderators, administrators and editors going to continue at DVD Talk?
A: Yes. They all plan to continue their current level of involvement on the site and in the community.
Q: What changes can we expect to see on DVD Talk?
A: It's hard to predict far into the future, but for the time being, DVD Talk will remain essentially unchanged. The main near-term addition you’ll probably notice is that Internet Brands will figure out with the DVD Talk staff the most logical places to put links to relevant content on other IB sites. Beyond that, Internet Brands plans to brainstorm with the admins and moderators of DVD Talk about improvements that would make the site more useful.
Q: Why did DVD Talk Join Internet Brands?
Internet Brands’ mission is to empower consumers to make better decisions about buying and maintaining their purchases. DVD Talk’s users offer outstanding opinions, reviews and advice about DVDs, technology from newbies and veterans alike, which should be a very good fit with the rest of the Internet Brands sites.

Does this annoying ad expand or decrease the amount of members in the forum?
Were the administrators and mods consulted before and during the placement of this ad?
Have IB brainstormed with the administrators and mods in what is best for the members?
Has the ad empowered consumers on buying the damn Frontiers DVD?
My point is that to me it seems that Internet Brand doesn't care. Like you said pilot, you could probably turn all the ads in the website off and they wouldn't notice in quite a while. What is worst is that the Frontiers ad could be gone by tommorrow, but then a new one could start next weekend, more annoying, user unfriendly and more disgusting. It could even make the DVDTalk page be slower, harder to read, harder to post and change the great atmosphere that we have been having for the past 10 years.
If IB keeps acting like a fucking faceless corporation, then the consumers, aka customers, aka members, will go away to other site that cares for them.

For what it's worth, I'm sure this is part of a promotional campaign. It's different than just flipping the switch off a random ad in Google's network or something...there's probably a commitment behind it.

Yeah these ads did exist from time to time when Geoff ran the site. They were annoying but at least the membership was given relativately strait-shooting answers to their feedback.
Now the silence is deafening. I really wonder the stress this puts on the old school moderators, who as far as I know, do this for free and are acting as gateway.
The ads will disappear when the contracted number of impressions are run...its as simple as that. I understand that somebody has to be paying for this stuff, so I am not going to crucify them for this. But there should be some standards for these kinds of ads - I mean any mouse movement anyway near these ads cause them to expand. Its making the site a minefield.

I could totally see IB eventually adding those horrible ads inside posts where certain words are highlighted, and if you put your cursor over any of them a big popup shows up.
Please never let DVDTalk come to that.
Promise?

To me, it's still wait and see. I know in the past Geoff has come back and said "yeah it didn't work." If these ads continue for months then i'll be annoyed.
