This UK blu-ray of Satan's Blood is region B only, right? Otherwise I'd totally upgrade [I know I 'should' go region free]

Edit: \/ Thanks!

Alright, let's finish building this. New additions have hyperlinks and/or are bolded. The recently deceased actors are only included if they have a minimum of 5 entries (Alton Yelchin). Obviously those are tacked onto another.

Help me refresh my memory, for a movie from Distributor / Studio - Severin Films it just has to be one that they have released, not technically one of their releases, right?

To make it easier to finish the checklist to allow people to secure movies, cut down on the two and three choices on each line. We are already picking a certain ammount from a bigger pool, but no need to go over kill.

We have select 10 actors, and already have 16 with 11 spots. Really no need for more then 20, 25 max. Still allows us to get our 10.

Since it already was optional, I always did comic anyway. Nailbiter, Walking dead, Puppet Master are all on my pull list.

This is a good point, I like it.

I think part of the 'problem' is that we end up going with more and more obscure/marginal (relative to horror output) stars so end up with a slew of people who have been in just a few horror movies. This seems contrary to even having the list because instead of highlighting genre luminaries it ends up showcasing miscellaneous people just for the sake of having a name on a list (without any real horror significance/meaning).

For next year I'd like to see us return to more emphasis on scream queens, iconic professionals, or other genre essential people. It's cool to showcase those who recently died, but maybe having a permanent checklist item of 'watch a film featuring a celebrity who died this year' would fit the bill.

Great idea for a permanent checklist item there. Of course, it'd be a great problem to someday have a year with no deaths of horror icons or even near-icons.

On the first point, there is a fine line between the use of the checklist getting stale (people just watching the same actors years after year), and adding new blood. I think Chad is doing a great job of straddling that line. Even with the new "help" of only having to watch 10 out of the ~30 actors, the checklist has still forced me to try some entirely new-to-me films. Too many true horror icons on the list and I'd just watch those same classics every year and never expand my horizons.

I'm maybe the main culprit for encouraging the checklists around here to be easier, but at the same time, their purposes included promoting diversity, and adding some challenge to the Challenge.

I don't think that there's necessarily anything wrong with watching the same actors year after year, but I get your point about diversity.

Maybe to satisfy both camps, we could have a section of the checklist devoted to watching films that you've never seen before. Something like:

Watch a film that you've never seen before that (pick three):

---stars Vincent Price
---features music by Ennio Morricone
---was made in the 1940s
---features a werewolf
---was written by Richard Matheson
---features a killer animal
---has the words "of the" in the title
---was directed by Jim Wynorski
---stars Yvette Vickers
---takes place at a boarding school

Or something to that effect. This section can rotate through the broader horror categories so that there's a new monster, or actor, or country of origin, or director every year for a few years, then it can start repeating. The key is that the films that you watch in this category are new TO YOU, thus forcing you to broaden your horizons at least a wee bit.

Thoughts?

Maybe to satisfy both camps, we could have a section of the checklist devoted to watching films that you've never seen before. Something like:

Watch a film that you've never seen before that (pick three):

---stars Vincent Price
---features music by Ennio Morricone
---was made in the 1940s
---features a werewolf
---was written by Richard Matheson
---features a killer animal
---has the words "of the" in the title

An even bigger checklist, and encouraging diversity? You know I'm in!

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

For 'producers' in the checklist it seems like more and more movies are 'produced' by companies rather than individuals. Would it be fair to consider/use production companies? There's something for the artistry of individual contributions but my perception on 'producers' is that they don't necessarily contribute much to the film itself other than creating an environment for directors/writers/actors to ply their trade (not sure if someone can better clarify what a producer does, I do understand the genius in sales/marketing of someone like Roger Corman). Seemingly production company heads like Jason Blum just get credit for the work of their titanic studio, like Blumhouse Productions, anyway regardless of individual contribution.

Here are some producer suggestions...

Producer: Robert Tapert
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?gen...ie,mini_series

Producer: Twisted Pictures

There's an admirable amount of work that goes into the checklist and even if I'm critical I wouldn't want to downplay Chad's contributions. I imagine it's frustrating trying to come up with an array of 'new' celebrities/items from an increasingly diminishing pool every year.

I really like this idea of having a film that meets a 'pick 3' style mix of requirements but that might be a hard balance between being general enough to have available films (for example, not sure how many werewolf films Vincent Price is in that take place in a boarding home). Although, I don't necessarily think it should have to be a film 'you've never seen before' so long as the selections have reasonable filmographies (personally I'd rather leave it up to participants if they want to watch a new film or revisit). For example, even if Vincent Price (with 42 IMDB 'horror' entries) or Peter Crushing (50 IMDB horror films) were on the checklist every year for the next 10 years participants should be able to find a novel film out of their catalog without it seeming stale.

I might be misreading one of you, but I don't think that is what rbrown meant. He meant, I'm pretty sure, three different new-to-you films, each different film meeting one of those ten criteria.

Trevor read me correctly--three DIFFERENT films, one per checklist item. Sorry for my inexact wording; Trevor's wording is much more precise.

For instance, I've seen a whole lot of Vincent Price's films, but there are a few that I have yet to see. This type of checklist might encourage me to finally seek out one of the ones I haven't yet seen. But if I'd seen ALL of Vincent Price's films, I could skip that one and do Jim Wynorski instead. That's why that section should have ample items to pick from.

A weak version of the usual, but I cobbled together a 2015 results thread.

I came across 3 subset films on a Roku Channel called Horror Hall today. It has a tremendous variety (over 1000 movies) so I might have missed some. I asuume they have commercials. First is Corridor of Blood running 1 hour and 27 minutes, second is Killer Klowns from Outer Space at 1 hour and 26 minutes and finally Motel Hell at 1 hour and 42 minutes. They also have The Bird With the Crystal Plumage at 1 hour and 36 minutes for a checklist item.
