How about now?

Are there fixed blu rays out there yet? Should I bother looking (and will it be discernible like in the scan for the back of the dvd)?

it is out there. not sure who, but someone in Exchange forum was trading or selling a Blu-ray and they mentioned specifically with corrected subtitles. could still be there...

Just here to add tonight's observations on "Where the proper DVD is and isn't".

I went to a Target: :thmbsdwn: 2 copies of the screwed up version
Then to Best Buy: :thmbsdwn: 3 copies of the screwed up version
Then to a Barnes & Noble:  finally, a copy with the "Theatrical" subtitles! Full retail price, but I bought it to cease this ridiculous search.

It's ridiculous the way Magnolia's handled this. I'd have liked to simply order it online but you don't know which version you're getting since they're both in the market.

(btw, I noticed the Target copies had crappy lenticular covers, the others didn't)

Why crappy? I think they're kinda cool, and they're removable anyways, with a regular cover underneath.

@ BB: 2 copies of messed up blu-ray and 8 copies of messed up dvd
@ Frys: 1 copy of messed up blu-ray and 5 copies of messed up dvd

Can't seems to find fixed dvds, much less blu-rays.

I've come across fixed DVD copies at FYE, too. Still no sign of a Blu-ray anywhere, though.

i like that lent. card as well and in fact took one off an incorrect copy just to put it with my corrected copy.

i really hate B&N...i don't know how they still have a DVD section when their in-store prices are so ridiculous compared to their online prices, especially if you are a member. and the fact that they will order from their online store while you are in their B&M to ship to you doesn't make sense.

About to try Barnes & Noble. I don't give a fuck anymore...I'll buy it at full price. Why is Magnolia not telling the retailers about this? I hate having to ask ppl to search in the back for this.

UPDATE: HOLY SHIT. Just called BandN....they have the Theatrical subs. Driving over now....

MORE RECENT UPDATE: YAY!!!! I bought it, and damn does it look right with the correct subs! Sad thing is that it costs: 26.99 + tax= $29.22. It seemed like the only way....

You found DVD or Blu-ray?

DVD.

Also....uh..the DVD may have some faults. Does anyone else have an issues at the start of Chapter 11 on the corrected DVD? It kinda stutters for like 1 sec at the start of Chapter 11. T

Yeah, I tried explaining it to a clerk at Best Buy. I'm horrible at describing simple anecdotes, let alone trying to explain a situation as complicated as this to someone who hasn't read the blogs. It would've been simpler just to print out the image posted by scott1598 and point to it.

(And I'm just thinking about how Magnolia contrasts to the great service Blue Underground performed back with the defective Blind Dead discs.)

Yeah, but I also bought a 50% off Criterion DVD when I was there and the average sort of balanced things out.

I think this is the first time I've ever bought a DVD at full retail price. Oh well, at least it affirms to me that I actually want this DVD and it's not one of the dozens of bargains I've bought & never watched.

layer change?

Re: 'Let The Right One In' US dvd subtitle issues

I've heard that but..what does it mean? Otherwise....everything about the DVD is perfect. Just...I hate that little skip/stutter for a second. Takes you out of the film a bit cuz it's when Oskar is hitching a ride at night....

A dual-layer DVD is a really common technology that's like two thin DVDs pancaked together, doubling the amount of space the DVD can hold. A layer change pause is the laser switching from one layer to another. Newer and newer DVD players have basically eliminated layer change, but this theoretically should be nothing new, they've been using dual layer DVDs for at least a decade, so I'm surprised that it seems you've never encountered this before (I'm not sure exactly how long though).

Re: 'Let The Right One In' US dvd subtitle issues

Well I'm playing it on my 360, which atm is my only way to watch DVDs. My PC is being a dick about the drivers so I'm still trying to fix that. I know I've had dual layer DVDs (though I've never known what the dual layer reason was), but I've never had issues with the others. It's a clean bottom of the DVD. Hrm...

The layer change pause is just a side effect of the technology, it doesn't mean there's a defect in your disc. In fact, the fine print on many DVDs used to note that there could be a slight pause while the disc changed layers.

Re: 'Let The Right One In' US dvd subtitle issues

ah well....guess it's just my 360 maybe. Either way...the main issue is the subtitles..and it just makes a great film to finally read what was meant to be read.

found the fixed version at the Barnes & Noble by Hulen Mall in Ft. Worth. DVD. They had a copy on Blu-ray, but it wasn't the fixed one.

I did end up buying 3 Criterion's during my search :)

Re: 'Let The Right One In' US dvd subtitle issues

Ok. It seems like we're all getting Theatrical subs at Barnes & Noble. I'd say....you kids go to that store and check it out. Why is this store getting all the corrected ones?

Re: 'Let The Right One In' US dvd subtitle issues

my guess is that, unlike Best Buy, B&N seems to only carry 1 copy at a time. When I went to a few different Best Buy's, they all had 5 or more copies (on Blu-ray and DVD) that I'm sure have been there since release.

You know what? I think you're right. Even way back when the DVD first came out..there was only copy. I didn't ask the guy here cuz he was holding it for me..but...maybe you're right? Anyone else can confirm this Barnes & Noble thing of having corrected DVDs?

I think it's pretty well confirmed, with several people having correlated this story. Targets as well, at least a couple of people in this thread have seen corrected copies at Target.

For many of us in this thread, it will be a bigger deal when a corrected BD is discovered.

Agreed. As annoying as it is, I am ready to plunk down another $29.99 for my favorite movie of 2008. Damn you Magnolia!

Checked a local BB for DVD and BD copies. All were the old uncorrected versions.

Having waited this long, I went ahead and bought the Blu-Ray from Amazon. Recieved it in the mail today. Not the corrected version. :(
