IMO.... and of course it varies, but these always pop up in an avid film lover's collection....

The Godfather Trilogy
Boogie Nights
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Die Hard
Kubrick
Scorcese
Hitchcock
Lean
David Lynch

If you are a fan of Internation Films I would say Kino has almost as many must own films in their catalog as Criterion.

A shortlist would include
Tarkovsky's Stalker and Zerkalo
Come And See
The Films Of Sergi Paradjanov Boxset
The Michael Haneke Box Set
Agony - The Life and Death of Rasputin

For Us Films
The 2 Noir Film Box Sets they release are a must own.

Too bad they treat them like crap most of the time.

Any specific criteria you have in mind? Genre, Country, something to go on? Otherwise that list could go on forever ....

I have never bothered to do this, I don't if others like it more with seperate folders. I have no idea if anyone has ever even looked at my collection? It's just easier for me to keep it simple with "owned", "wish-list", & "on-order".

I love looking at people's collections to see what they like enough to own, compare/contrast to my collection, etc. You have a really great collection of films and the way you organize it is totally fine. If it doesn't bother you then you should stick to the model your using for organization right now. I only have mine organized with several sub-folders and sections because of how my collection is organized on my shelves, to keep track of my many unwatched titles, and because I insist on having my HD DVD's and Blu-ray's in their own sections.

Note to all: A lot of my "unwatched" titles HAVE been viewed before - whether on DVD or in theaters - but not all. I've purchased too many of those $3 or less blind buy DVD's though. These titles just haven't been watched since I purchased them. Which is the same as not watching them I guess...

Oh, by the way, I hate how long to takes to move a TV set to my "watched" section. For instance, I am on Season 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and can't move it over until it's all been viewed. And I'm working on several shows at once.

Anyone want to take a new look at my collection? Any thoughts?

GenPion,

excellent collection. Lots of Criterion, lots of TV, lots of everything. It's hard to have 1300 titles and not have some good shit, of course.

Thanks for the feedback! I took a look at your collection and we clearly share a similar taste in film so I really appreciate the comment. You have an excellent collection as well with lots of great essentials.

Thank you.

My collection isn't very big, though it used to be. The whole thing was sold a few years ago for some stupid reasons, and when it came time to start repurchasing titles, the essentials were all I could really stomach to purchase again.

You have a large collection of titles, and while I may not view all of them myself, it seems great for your tastes! So I'd rank it highly for that alone. I tried to think up something you could add to your horror collection but you seem to have pretty much every type of horror film covered extensively so I couldn't think of anything you don't already own. I will say Vacancy has excellent PQ on Blu-ray so that may be a title you'd want to upgrade.

Thanks, I might have to upgrade Vacancy since the BR is always cheap.

Torchur, you should go through your horror and mafia titles and do a body count.

Re: Rate My DVD Collection

Nice collection Torchur! Quite a few titles I'd like to get.

My collection is all over the place - not a lot of classics, but a lot of terrible movies! (quite a few were from store closing sales (
